Re: Round 15 Team - Gillies To Debut

Interesting thought but i suspect that now our winning streak is over the club has decided to rest a few players as we've still 8 rounds to go before finals and it was a pretty intense game last week. St Kilda will try to see how far they can push their streak before probably doing the same. The GF is not won in July.
Agree with all that, but Saints will probably go through undefeated.

I can't remember a game where I have been this genuinely excited about watching us play

Last week didn't get you going?

Somewhat ironic that at the end of last week, everyone seemed ok at the end of match EXCEPT Taylor, who was carried off on a stretcher with a neck-brace. Fast-forward a week and seven players are out, but not Taylor. I can't decide whether Taylor is so tough that he can bounce back after such an incident or whether he is so soft, that any old meaningless knock sees him carried off.

Not in the same sense. It's been ages since Geelong has unveiled some new talent :D

Robert Walls - "That backline looks brittle when you compare it to their premiership winning backline".

Really, Robert?

Is that the same premiership backline he wrote off earlier this year?

Good to see Laidler get a game :thumbsu:

When was the last time Geelong has had a team with 4 players who've played 2 or less games [Laidler,Gillies,Hogan & Djerrkura] ?

It took me a while to find the answer to this but it was in Round 1, 1997.... the day that our current oldest player Darren Milburn made his debut!

The other three players with 2 or less games experience were Paul Corrigan (0), Matthew Robbins (1) & Carl Steinfort (2).

I'd like any of our defenders not named Enright to at least break even, getting flogged in the back half.

Happy enough with the newbies, although Gillies has barely been sighted. What is disappointing is some the senior guys.

Down by 20 or so at the moment and will probbaly lose, but quite looking forward to the second half and not at all upset with the probable loss.

Agreed. Tom Harley terrible, JC turning it over. Selwood and Bartel MIA.

Thought Gillies has looked alright, has had a couple kicked on him but hasn't looked out of place in contested situations and is making the right decisions.

Laidler, on the other hand, looks nothing like the kid we saw in the NAB Cup. His kicking efficiency would have to be 0% at this stage.

Gillies has been pretty good. Will gain in confidence for te run.

Laidler has really looked out of depth. He looks a little bit out of is depth at the minute.

I don't think our style of play is right for the new guys. You need highly developed skills and they don't have it. Doesn't help that some of our senior players are fumbling or missing targets more than they usually would.

Going into the last quarter our only hope is Brisbane tires but I can't see us manufacturing enough goals.

Gilles looked chunky and Laidler looked clunky

Gillies looked bigger than I expected. Will be a big boy in a couple of seasons
Laidler looked like the pace of the game worried him although one might say the same of a few players. Not sure he has added to his chances of being retained on that performance , however Id like to see him with a few more senior players around him. Very tough test tonight.

Mumford stood out , as a player who was hungry as well as a potential top performer. If there was any doubt , there is none now. He must be kept!!

I thought they both look alright. It to laidler a while to settle down but at least he got better as the game went on. We learnt tonight that we have to blood players before half our back line retires. They looked a little loss and there didn't look like there was any real leadership down back
