Round 15 The Sydney Swans vs. The Adelaide Crows

Regarding white, we need to leave him in the seniors for the majority of the rest of the year and assess after the year's out. Does the forward line function better without him? No do we have someone capable of stepping in and playing his role? No will he develop as well in the 2nds? Probably not is he really keeping someone else out of the side? I don't think so. Imo the forward line functions better with him on it, we really need to assess whether he'll be a swan post-2011, imo we really need to keep him in the seniors until we've determined that. If things click we have our answer, they don't & we have a decision to make.

As for lrt, the coaching staff really need to ask themselves where they see him playing and then have to ask where he sits in the pecking order in that particular position. Imo lrts best position has always been down back, and just because he's good down back doesn't mean he maintains the same ranking in the ruck/forward line. If he's not considered best 6 down back & we have better forward/ruck options then lrt misses out. The problem with our team balance atm is we have too many "versatile" players and not enough specialists.

As for kenelly, I don't think It's time to throw him on the scrap heap, but I do think he has to come under scrutiny from here on out. He's an experienced senior. Is it acceptable for him to be making costly errors like that? Pavlich made a similar mistake and in isolation these things happen, but if this is an ongoing trend and hrs being found out against quality opposition (who we'll be meeting in finals) then the writing's on the wall. Same thing happened to Leo Barry, he was constantly getting caught in the latter part of his career, and this only gets magnified against todays frontal press/zone. Atm its looking like kenelly has been surprised by the amount of pressure & you can see him panic and backpeddle lookin for options. I'd still have kenelly as depth even if he was past it, but his position in the 22 must be scrutinized, especially if this trend continues. The warning signs are definitely there.

Even as a forward LRT is ahead of White. Calling for him to be left out is just plain silly.

Don't under-estimate Kenelly. He's still a damn good player. He invites trouble as he tries to be creative, set up an attack and not just bang the ball long to the inevitable turnover. His disposal efficiency is good and he gets a lot of ball. We would sorely miss his attacking rebound footy.

Pretty harsh on Kennelly with the turnovers late in the game, considering the first goal against us every match since the Dogs game has pretty much been the result of a Grundy turnover.... no joke.

LRT is not ahead of White. Paaaleeease. LRT had one good game and the guy he was up against had a fractured back!

You're ****ing kidding yourself.

Your hatred of White must be worse than Bedders' of McVeigh if you think LRT is a better forward than White.

Its debatable and Id prefer LRT down back, but Id say he would be if he played as many games at full forward as White has.

Even if I agreed with you that lrt is ahead of white, its a matter of determining whether white will he with us long term. If white does have a future with us he has a lot more upside than lrt. but apart from that, why would you throw lrt in the forward line just because you need to fit him in the team. I loved lrt kicking goals as much as the next fan but he's not a forward and will not cut it full time. He's versatile enough to be able to go forward to cover an injury or as an impact player, but he's not a permanent forward. Can white cut it long term? The jury's still out but i'd back a developing forward over an established back who's been thrown forward in hopes that he'll fill a hope for us.

Imo, It's not only about what's good now, we need to have an eye to the future. We need to use the rest of the season to determine what works and what needs to he workers on during pre season. You only go into premiership mode when you're a genuine threat, we haven't gown anywhere near enough at this point.

As for kenelly, I'm still backing him at this point. But the signs are there, whether he's got a niggle, or just needs to adjust his game, perhaps he'll overcome it. Time will tell. Great players adapt to changes, hopefully kenelly can do the same. But as soon as seniors start making mistakes developing players make its time to relegate them to depth players, let's hope kenelly has another couple of seasons in him before that happens. But when you see guys like aj come in and slot straight in, guys like duigan at Carlton, yarran being moved back, stanton at hawthorn, it really appears like its becoming a young mans game, especially down back.

I'd also prefer LRT down back but if there's a question of no room down back I don't mind him as a forward. He marks, leads and uses his physical strength to muscle his opponents (or cracks their backs). He's also a better ruckman. In the event of a toss up I'd give it to LRT over White. The bottom line is LRT is a known commodity. He'll give a contest, create forward pressure, make a target, take some grabs and he'll usually kick a couple. Is he ever gonna be a gun forward ? No. He's a gun defender and he's versatile. In that respect he's a valuable member of our best 22.

Bit of an over-reaction there Stat and I don't appreciate the language (implied). Put up a reasoned argument or not. Re-read my post if it helps.

I hate someone because I think someone else is a better forward ? I criticise White's game (note the game, not the guy) just once in a season and I hate him ?

I thought White did pretty well in the ruck last week and was more useful in that role than LRT has been the couple of weeks preceding. So I think he'll definitely stay in the team at least until Mumford or Pyke are available for selection. Hopefully he proves himself as a forward so that when they DO come back, he won't have to be dropped.

The next few weeks are extremely important for his career you'd think.

I think Jesse can build up some confidence over the next couple of weeks playing on weaker defenses. He was monstered by Tarrant who is pretty damn good.

On a side note, I'll be in canberra this weekend and wondering if anyone can recommend a good pub showing AFL games?

There's a pub in Kingston that was showing AFL games when I was up there. Can't remember the name of it though sorry.

If it is I missed out :(

Although I don't know why anyone would pay to go out and cook their own steak.

It's a bit weird, a pub with it's own flame grill in the middel, you select your own cut of meat and cook it to your own likeing.... it was noval the first time, the second meh... ands that place is simply the Kingston Hotel refered to by the locals as "The Kingy"..... you get the idea lol. I think it would be likely to show the football but.

Watched a game once at the Belconan workers club.... to a few anti afl jibes.

yeah, Tarrants a good fullback these days. He's very strong. But White is bigger. Do you think Tarrant would do that to Cloke? or Petrie? And Merret is a pretty good fullback, but LRT was able to match him one on one.

White has to become more of a physical presence if he wants to keep his spot. He's got all the tools. Just needs the belief and technique. He has the biggest upside of anyone else we might stick at FF. I hope he keeps his spot and fulfils his potential, starting this week against Rutten.

In the first contest between them White threw Tarrant away like he was a ragdoll and it resulted in a free kick. He needs to learn how to tread that fine line between using brute strength and giving away a free kick.

i agree with the general sentiment that Jesse has what it takes, but needs a settled role. With Seabs in good form, Pyke getting back to health, and Mummy taking a few extra weeks to get his knee stronger, I hope that our good run home to the finals lets Jesse settle into his one role, and get a better feel for it.

With Jetta getting some confidence in the 2's and Rohan not too far off, it should fix up two of our biggest weaknesses all year. Namely no forward structure and lack of speed in the middle.

Interesting, I still think we have one tall too many, especially in defence where the Crows don't have a particularly tall forward line. But then, two of the three emergencies are talls as well so it looks like we don't have many other choices in reserve.

Longmire says the usual , we need our intensity for 4 quarters, He also says we need more run at west lakes as it is a big groud. FFS wouldn't it be better to keep LJ in, instead of dropping him again after one game, thats bullshit, then why play Bevan.
And if we need pace, why would you have a slowcoach in Moore as an emergency.
Just had a look at the updated forecast for Boganaide and it is rain periods, might be why Moore is in

I probably would have had Sumner in instead of Jetta, and play him as the sub, rather than have Jetta play what will likely be another partial game.

Other than that, teams are pretty good. LJ was never going to keep his spot with both Ted and AJ coming back. Unfortunate, but there you go.
