Would love to see Wingard get a game - he chose to stay and I respect that.

Anyone know anything about Finn Maginness? He’s dropped off the radar for me and I must have missed why.
The Box Hill report says he was held back in the last quarter of the VFL game as the AFL backup in case of an injury in the warm-up. Hinted he was close to playing AFL again which is a surprise.

DGB is close but we shouldn't be giving players games "just cos". They gotta earn it. I want him to get a spot in the 22 that's his, not just warming Sicily's seat.

What about when players already in the senior side get soundly beaten regularly, and end up leading the reverse Coleman. There's a point in time where you can't give games to players who aren't performing at senior level.

Fair point. But I’d rather Day in the centre. Recon Scrim can be a good interceptor if he’s freed up. Doesn’t have the composure of Day, but loves to take a mark floating across.

I’d also prefer Ward playing half forward given our terrible entries from that area of the ground yesterday. He can hit them lace out going forward.
Champion data folks say that the biggest advantage good sides have is the ability to score from turnovers, and they say this is much more important than scores from stoppages simply because there are significantly more turnovers per game. This is why losing Sis is so damaging for us. As an elite interceptor he generates turnovers and therefore scoring opportunities. It might be that Sam will push Day into that intercept role at the expense of our ability to win the stoppages for that reason. Best of both worlds is for someone else to step up in Sis’ absence so we can leave Day in the midfield. Scrim or DGB seem the likeliest candidates but neither have really mastered that role yet. In a sense, having Sis out is actually a good opportunity for one of them although it might mean some short term pain for us.

He didn’t choose to stay. Just refused to be traded and cost us the top 15 pick that GWS were offering…

I think it's the notion that the club was trying to get him out the door, rather than asking him what he wanted to do
You don't get traded without being asked. This isn't the NBA.

Just read the Box Hill players review.

Obviously Ward will come in. But it was a pretty bad week to have a down game for everyone else. Especially DGB given the opportunity there.

We're two from two having to move Day back without Sicily, after the games got out of hand. Hopefully we start him back this week.

Then they will get dropped. Sam has shown complete willingness to look to the future and omit players, senior or otherwise, who aren't fulfilling their role. Why would Frost be an exception?

Time and time again it's been said by coaches and players that Frost is one of their favourite players to play with. He has been a first choice defender for two coaches and match committees at Hawthorn. He clearly does work off ball that makes him a valuable part of our defence that supporters don't see.

Otherwise, he would simply not be in the side. Maybe this is the week. I hope it is, as DGB being best 22 over Frost is excellent for our future. But I'm certain that the coaches would be playing Denver over Frost if he was being outperformed at training and in matches

Andy Collins spoke about DGB recently and how he was given games in his first and second seasons and now the challenge has been put to him and that as a 21 year old key defender, of which there are not many of them in the AFL, he is developing nicely and they are seeing progress and are happy with them. Spoke about his role on Mabior Chol in the VFL against the Suns on Sunday before being moved to Sam Day.

Ridiculous post. He choose to stay.

Giants did the work on him, put an offer to the club that we were interested in, the club asked Chad if he was interested and he said "no thanks".

He did choose to stay with us.
Depends if it was hawthorn shopping him around and
Ignore the last games played by both teams and our form looks OK and Carltons terrible.

I actually think we win this.

:muscle:

Carlton in 2022 were a massive confidence team.
Impossible to stop when on a run, but easybeats when things didn't go their way.

This year isn't much different.
Go toe to toe with them for 1.5 quarters and they'll roll over.
Give them a sniff though and it ends up like their GC game

Irony is they embarrassed the GC, who embarrassed us.

I'm expecting nothing these days.
Yes , I know. Its a flip of the coin as to which hawthorn turns up.
But I'm blaming the bye for their win and ours loss.

I hope you are right MM.
I think we are a good chance.
