Okay i watched the compilation of Sydney worst and agonising misses

HICKEY WTF???

Logan dropped a chest mark 5 meters out from goal how did you guys watch this live? lol
I like how they missed Heeney's worst set shot howlers.

Amartey got the run around

Athlete not a footballer

Messaged someone on here during the week about this

Heeney is well

Gus has played very well
Amartey was also being held and blocked at every forward contest. If he was a big name Victorian forward, he would have had at least 5 frees last night. Alas, he isn’t and so the Geelong defenders got away with more than most.

Have to disagree. A miss is a miss whenever it happens. You can even argue earlier misses are worse because you don't have the added pressure of the clock.
Agree with that, however with early misses there is a lot of game time to still run out meaning the ability to make up for it is greater. My view rests in the time left to impact the result. It’s like a miss after a siren, that is more costly as you have no other ability to influence the game after that and the next qtr starts afresh. That’s why I feel the later in the game an miss happens, the more important it is in impacting the result.

Still a concern
He's not setting the world alight for sure. But he's copping more than the other two. Logan has kicked 11 in 8 versus non rubbish sides.

And I'm not having a crack at Logan. He's shown glimpses, as has Amartey. I think Logan will be the better of the two, but people (not you) calling Amartey useless / not a footy player says more about them. They should improve individually and as a unit as time goes on.

Oh he isn't useless, skills are there, tank and maybe application/body is an issue.

Mcdonald isn't on fire but has more of presence imo

It's just do we leave Buddy out and let the three talls go or not , I am not sure Amartey keeps Buddy out. Mclean can ruck is the difference

First half was mint ball use.
As good as it gets.

You'd never know that.
The Comm box were obsessed with something. Or something else.

Third quarter. Geelong toughed up.

Even though the goal kicking was ugly. It was pretty breezy at say 20 metres off the ground. Really swirly.

Fox should have swallowed that chance.

I'm sad.
Not bias here as 2023 has not had much to cheer about but that was a Better standard of football than any other team I have watced this year. Outstanding ball movement.

Amartey's actually more of a ruck than McLean. We used him more at VFL level last year than Hayden (and have in the past at AFL level). Suspect we don't want to risk him as much since his injury return, plus McLean's been doing a decent job as the backup ruck (if not doing a lot up forward or elsewhere).

This is an unnecessary comment. I think Amartey is a mediocre player because he's never shown me otherwise. What does that say about me? Why so passive aggressive?

McDonald is a fair way behind where I hoped he'd be at this point, but at least shows consistent glimpses. Amartey looks average at his best. He's not great at any particular area. Tbf McLean isn't any better really, but no one expects him to be a star and his contested marking is invaluable sometimes.

You said useless (and it wasn't only referring to you). If you mean mediocre, fine, that's your opinion. I think it's pretty clear that I'll comment sometimes when I think players or the club are getting unfairly criticised. People seem to throw around blanket statements like useless or soft or pea-hearted or selfish, ignoring any context, because it seems like they just want to have a crack. Sounds like we've clarified what you meant, cool.

He was kinda useless last night. Dropped mark after mark after mark and kicked 0 goals. And it wasn't a major surprise. He only really does well against bad defences. But yes, "useless" is an overstatement in general. He's certainly not the worst player I've seen and has his moments, but doesn't seem to have a very high ceiling and isn't someone I can see contributing heavily to an eventual premiership run.

I hope I'm wrong, but I think we have major issues up forward post-Buddy. Buller is unlikely to be the answer. I really hope we bring someone in.

Amartey is still very much learning…but I do wonder if he has an eye issue.

I recall Alir having similar issues overhead. Maybe Amartey to CHB?

Agree on ‘spotlighting’ the Umps..it’s become ridiculous..but the backlash could be ordinary after a few weeks. Pretty sure Rampe smart-arsedness and Papley‘s ducking have caused the current dilemma.

I thought most of the dropped marks were difficult ones that a lot would drop, some after he did great work to get there or remove an opponent. But yeah, not a good night, you'd like him to take at least one or two of them.

I think we've seen glimpses of a good ceiling, though I'm certainly not saying he's Buddy or Hawkins. The main issue is injury/fitness imo, which will impact his ability to ever get there consistently. Best I've felt about him this year was seeing him live vs the Tigers. Kicks 2 goals then off injured in the 2nd.

Buller looks promising imo. Wouldn't surprise if he's in the 22 and building into a good player next year. Certainly won't be unhappy if we got Naughton though.

For a few years we have been developing a more flamboyant, dynamic style of football, usually let down by a hand pass, a poor kick or a bad decision.

Last night we nailed every facet of the game style except the final kick. We opened Geelong up and for most of the game, they had no answers. It was only towards the end that the lack of finishing seemed to drain the team of energy.

There will come a time when everything clicks and we will be a pretty amazing team.

No.
The current dilemma is the result of Eddie talking us down for over 7 years on prime time TV. Cognitive bias is a thing and we continue to suffer from it.

agree , but right now due to all that Mclean gives the ruck option that Amartey isn't

The way I described to a friend who didn't watch was like the F50 was kryptonite. Did well up until reaching it, then it was comically horrific once we crossed the arc.
