Melicans game on hawkins was odd

sometimes i though he was lucky hawkins copped s**t delivery- when they got it right he lost melican easy

But melican also did some good things as well and attacked off him
Melican deserves kudos he did his job, others (mainly Hickey Heeney and fox did not) melican can hold his head high, what did Hawkins kick again?

Especially when Melican clearly couldn't keep up with Hawkins
You must have been watching a different game. Hawkins will end up in the hall of fame because he is and has been that good. To be beaten by Hawkins is nothing to cry about, but tonight I thought Melican was beaten once or twice, but generally outplayed Hawkins and even started to run off him in the last quarter. If you think he has a bad game then I would suggest that you never played as a backman?

On a positive, up until the last, our ball movement was the best it's looked all year. Yea there was some mistakes, but playing through the corridor is what we do best and it's nice to finally get back to that
Yep, the ball movement and our play looked much more fluid. Not on par with last year, but a frackin heap better than it was 4 weeks ago.

anyway to see who was on the bench each Cats score?

Felt like Sheldrick was often off
His overall ToG was about 70%. He looked like he was tiring in the 4th but was clearly still having a crack. I think he's still building his tank to become a 4 quarter player but I'm confident it's not far away.

Yeah not sure how anyone could watch that game and say Hawkins had the better of him

2.2

got Melican caught behind him for 4 marks on the lead- just saying if Geelong got the delivery right Melican may have been farked that's all

But i'd Give Melican the marks

if it was a young opposition defender keeping buddy to 2.2 they wouldn't shut up about it

100% correct

We get a better draw next season, a good look at the deficiencies we need to address and trade/draft for in the off season. Hopefully a better run with injury
And that young brigade all get into that 50 to 100 game bracket and beyond where they all start to peak together.

Plenty to be excited about based on the last month of footy
Judging by tonight, we're going to struggle to kick winning scores. McDonald is alright but is nowhere near dominant enough, and Amartey and McLean are b-graders at best. Heeney and Papley falling off a cliff doesn't help either.

Beginning with the Lions game we are a better team but to walk away with a Loss, win, draw just isn't good enough but it's too much to do too late. Frustrating to see the opinion pieces on Close tackle on Francis. Forget the suspension part it doesn't matter there was no injury but focus on no free kick awarded like it has been in every match prior. It lead to a goal for them when it should have been a clearance kick for the Swans.

To control most of that match and still get pantsed by the free kick count is so indicative of the BS of the likes of Nicholls. He made sure they got the pressure release they needed numerous times and even took an umpire further away to call the holding on Sheldrick that Nicholls was right there watching and not paying.

But you knew early it was going to be one of those missed opportunity matches.

As much as it feels like Geelong come out of that match as somewhat victorious they blew their momentum and only look ay good as they started the match ahead on points. Pretty bad showing by them and proves that things can change after two big thumpings by them.

Gives a little hope for the years ahead at least.

Yeah literally the only thing holding him back right now. Everything else is ready made

I've been of the feeling that Melican was more can't than can. Last few weeks he's been proving me wrong, including tonight. Yes, Hawkins took a few marks on the lead but the important thing was, Melican pushed him either wide, to the 40-50m range or both, causing a harder shot on goal. Overall, I thought he had the better of the contest.
