We are steadily improving for sure but dont read too much into this, the Lions are way off their game today.
Yeah, fair enough. Can only play what's in front of us. Lions are missing some key cogs but the midfield is the engine room and they are almost at full strength (Neale, Lyons, McCluggage).

The thing that has continued on from recent weeks is the unselfish football we are playing. Give the handball to a team mate in a better position, hold onto the ball and take contact if we don't have an option. We are taking the game on and with the ever growing confidence from recent weeks, we are slowly getting the rewards.

I was very despondent at times but I kept seeing Zach Package say (paraphrasing here), stay the course and it will come together. The last month has seen some significant improvement across the board and not just the over reliance from our top handful of guys.
No way!

I like this hot take. Take it straight over to the hawkes board. I was always so angry at Sewell for headbutting Lloyd's shoulder ;-)

Jokes aside.. you're dead on. The pies & dogs are the worst for inviting head high contact. It's dangerous, unfair and must be outlawed.

While we're at it my other pet hate is players winning a free by artificially pulling the ball in when tackling an opponent on the ground. If the AFL are setting up rules to keep play moving, they shouldn't be rewarding players who are forcing stoppages.
100%. Same applies to teammates jumping on the pile to lock the ball in. I reckon a mix of 1) actually paying the free kicks that are there and 2) changing rules/interpretations to get rid of some of the cynical shit that has been coached in over the last 20 years and we're golden.

That being said, everyone likes to look back to 80s/90s as a golden era, and there were probably twice as many free kicks and that was with less umpires (which obviously helps key forwards kick bags given they're often infringed).

Sheedy could be to blame - the way he started to use Kickett as a shepherder in marking contests pretending to mark the ball was very modern gameish

Great response boys.

Hobbs looking better and better. This is the season i expected in a way, and other than tightening the game plan (which we may see over the last month or so) i actually think it's positive. The young guys are looking good.
