Langers looks as fit as a bull. Spent most of the last Q at FF. Dropped a few marks so his timing is just off. Cant see him playing too many games at BHH.

Shem gets two mitts on the ball just about every time. Completely different type of player. He is a deadest monster, he always seems balanced so he is in a good position to make second and third efforts. Impressive game, his amount of development is just silly.

Jed spent a fair amount of time playing deep forward. Like Sizzle and Poppy he has the licence to go for species. Jed is too good for the VFL.

Nice game from Kurt. His marking is a treat. Would not surprise if he gets a run should we choose to rest a defender or two.
Reckon Shem has the goods to make it ESC? Im salivating at the thought

Yeah should've stated that Jed was playing the Cyril role up forward for quite a long time during the game (so obviously less midfield time).

Shem is in the same physical boat as Hawkins and Casboult, generally strong and no one can fault his development recently. Who knows what the future holds and how high his ceiling is, but maybe now with the VFL senior experience and playing well in basically all games (don't think he's been goalless in any of those games for seniors), maybe all he needs is next season's pre-season and could be a chance.

I got to the game at quarter time (late despite living 5 minutes away) and by hat stage we were a few goals up but from a similar number of shots. The kids were at it like Lake and Hawkins so it was hard to concentrate on the game but I very much liked what I saw of Shem, though he has a long way to go. He seemed to lumber around with no real urgency but still got himself to the right place several times. He has an awkward kicking style but it works for him as he was very accurate. I was most impressed by his clean hands and the only fumble I recall was a dropped chest mark.

I also thought Jed and Kurt were good, as was Pittonet. Whitecross got a bit of the ball but turned it over a few times.

The highlight for my boy was at the end of the game when Teia Miles kicked his footy back to him.

The highlight for my girl was a huge sling tackle she put on my boy during the 3 quarter time kick-to-kick.

What's his passing on the run like? Can he run? Is he a good contested mark? Is he just a stay at home forward or does he lead up also? Has he got a densive side to him?

Gee impressive highlights from Shem once again. Showing some real nous. Kurt too. It is all about fitness and work-rate for Shem from here on. He has the hands and the moves (what about the banana on the run!!) needs to get involved more often. What bargains both of them are.

Have to admit Shem has come on in leaps and bounds. The club's development staff need congratulating here. We have the best in the business if not close to. I still think he needs to lose another 7 - 10kgs before he is AFL ready

The marks I saw him take were more or less uncontested but that seemed to be because he judged the flight better and he's just so damn big. He didn't fumble and picked up a bouncing ground ball as cleanly as you'd like. I didn't see him passing to anyone but that's as much about decision-making as it is execution. As I said earlier, his kicking style seemed awkward but it got the job done.

He lead up nicely but I didn't see him apply defensive pressure. He seemed to just plod around but is obviously a bit faster when he needs to be. The bottom line is I liked what I saw and with a bit (well, a lot) of work I think he's a chance for us.

He just needs to lose his last remnants of baby-fat is all....The kid is a terrific work in progress....Tremendous up-side & looking forwards to him monstering the opposition for years to come.

Gee it would be great if Kurt and/or Shem could work their way into the senior team in the next 2 years. The New Zealand development investment has already paid off as far as I'm concerned but you'd think a couple of success stories could really drive interest and might be the tipping point between a kid choosing Hawthorn or Union. Have always liked what I've seen from Kurt.

It's pretty incredible to think what they've achieved. Factor in the willingness of the club's management to embrace this sort of lateral talent nurturing too.

Would he be as mobile as Hawkins? I assume he needs greater fitness give. His age injury history but usually that is the easiest thing to fix.
I'd rate him more agile than Hawkins. On his current trajectory he'll go past Hawkins pretty quickly. Hawkins averages 2 goals a game and 2 tackles a game which is roughly the same as what Shem is averaging.

Shem was rucking in the development squad, would like to see him develop that side of his game.

Not sure about that ESC
