I don't like Sir Dane one on one really. He goes okay and can have good games but he does often end up giving away frees and very obvious ones. Grundy is just a beast who takes his opponent out of the game with minimal fuss. I'd have Grundy any day over Sir Dane and Aliir, and that's saying something as they are two of my favourites
I actually think Rampe is one of the best one on one defenders in the competition, provided he's playing against a player he can actually compete against physically. I don't think he should be played a a key defender, and given our key defensive socks I don't understand why he is. Sure, he does a pretty good job against the talls, but he was the best medium defender in the league! Why not play Grundy / AA / Melican / Maibaum as the key defenders, and let Rampe play the sort of role Mills was playing as a mid size defender?

Of course I can't make a definitive call without being on the inside, I'm just giving my interpretation which I think is pretty accurate. It's hard for me to read the situation differently.

I agree with everything in the 2nd paragraph apart from him being a cornerstone of the defensive unit. I think the cornerstone is definitively Rampe. And if Aliir continues like he's going, he'll be gaining quickly. Unfortunately, and I do mean unfortunately because I love him, I think Reg has become expendable.

We'll see what happens over the next few weeks. We've got Essendon (Brown and McKernan), Collingwood (Cox and Mihocek), and Melbourne (Hogan and MacDonald). If we're not playing Grundy against GCS which has two 200cm key forwards, I'm not sure I can see him coming in to play any of the next three weeks, but I'll happily be proven wrong on that if that happens.
Rampe and Aliir are more effective peeling off their man and intercepting, playing third man up. Reg is your old school close checking KPD and I think we missed him against North. Having Reg in the team allows Rampe and AA to play to their strengths and makes them better players.

Melican I can see squeezing Reg out eventually but he's not in the equation right now.

Of course, but if Grundy isn't being picked to play on two slow key forwards, logically why would he be chosen to play on smaller, faster forwards in the coming weeks?
Maybe he’s being rested? As you said, you’re not on the inside...do you want to watch Conspiracy Theory with me?

And wasn't it just a bit weird to rest him last week against the leading goalsneak in the comp?

Don't want to sound like a conspiracy theorist but WHERE IS REG? HAS ANYONE EVEN SEEN GRUNDY????:shoutyoldman::eek:
I'd really like to know as well... it's a bit scary that he's not there...

PS. What is a beancoin miner?

If we can’t comment for not being on the inside, we might as well shut down this forum...

Will not play again this year.

Just odd to make him emergency that’s just saying your dropped isn’t it.Not against replacing players but geez he has been pretty good, K Jack must have nude picks of horse
Perhaps it's best to rest up if he has had a niggle but he can play if needed.
Same as with Rohan before & Paps.

I agree with all of this. I'd be happy to keep playing Reg until Melican was fit to come back in and have Rampe play more as a 3rd tall. Shame Melican will probably not play again this year.

Rested for another week? Despite being named as an emergency? Only a few weeks after the bye? Not sure I buy that.

All of this.

Exactly how I see it. Reg is still our best one on one defender. We can worry about pace all we like but look at the forwards we'll have to contend with in the finals... Ben Brown, the Kennedy/Darling combo, the Hogan/McDonald combo, all of Port's talls who give us a bath, a GWS forward line with Cameron or Lobb and Patton in it, another Riewoldt bath.

Who sells I’m selling?

He was, but unfortunately it looks like the coaches may have decided that moving forward they want a quicker backline which is more versatile.

Not to be that guy, but it's true that I foreshadowed this in the first month of the season that I wasn't sure Grundy, despite still playing really well, would make it to finals in the seniors side. In the past few years Grundy would have absolutely been picked to play a team which included Crossley and Wright up forward. It tells me that the coaches have made a decision to go with a smaller back line which will include Aliir and Marsh (although I suspect strongly that Melican would be in for Marsh if fit atm).

This isn't resting anymore. He doesn't need two weeks of rest. Unfortunately, barring injuries, this could be it for Grundy.
Please don't say that... :(

And people who don’t have sources are allowed to speculate!

What can you divulge Mick?
Nothing with Reg. Go to trades to see Lloyd. Surprised Cameron is getting a game though, not because he doesn’t deserve it (he does), but because he was purely backup if Sinclair went down and they weren’t going to play him and Sinclair together. That decision was made straight after Naismith went down, so they’ve eventually changed their minds. There you go, that’s all I’ve got and it’s from 1. Alex for Lloyd and 2. without giving away a name or rank, a club official for Cameron.
