Re: teams

If Fox doesn't play back, then bring Francis in.

But I'd just put Fox back on Walter. Leave Melican on Read. McCartin on King.

Out: Mitchell
In: Wicks
Sub: Jordon

Suspect Wicks will be sub though.

I would rather have Wicks in to provide that manic pressure and instinctive link up play that generates scoring chains. I suspect he will be sub though. No games in the Reserves for weeks. He is not contending for a starting position on no footy for weeks on end. I suspect it is acclimatizing him to the team to get that team bonding happening so that he is ready in a few weeks if his Reserves form warrants it.

In more positive news, Alex Sexton has not made it into the Suns 23.

Hate to say it as I like him but hope Campbell is the sub and not Fox or Wicks
Not a hard rule about the sub coming from the I/C bench. I'd prefer Jordon over any of them.

I think we'd be mad to not put Fox down back, or at least remove that option. Wicks as sub makes no sense in relation to Fox possibly needing to go back.

Fast forward to Horse post game after zero forward pressure. "It's hard to win games of footy. When their talls got off the chain we felt like we needed to adjust, move Robbie down there. Unfortunately that created a lack of pressure up front, until Wicksy created some chances late when he came on with 10 mins to play. We'll look at that and potentially name Aaron as sub next week, so Foxy can stay up forward and Wicksy can play reserves."

Oh really? I was under the impression the sub could only come from those named on the interchange.

I just want Fox & Wicks in the same forward line. I'm 100% chips in to pressure, pressure, pressure.

The AFL announcements just say a bench of 5, with 3 emergencies and "the sub will be confirmed 60 minutes prior to the match".

That said, it could be the rule, and they just haven't explained it well.

Fox has trained forward all off season. I can't see him starting back now. He will play a negating role on an interceptor.
Yeah I know.

But I don't know why we want Blakey to have to mind someone, he should be free.

If no Fox down back:

King - McCartin
Walter - Melican
Read - Blakey

Blakey playing on a young 200cm ruck suits me fine. Read is a very good runner but Blakey playing on him will allow him to run off and create at will.

Need Fox and Wicks playing forward imo.

Suns 2nd in pressure acts & points off intercepts. Meanwhile we've not handled pressure well at all in our last 2 games.

Need to ensure we either negate their pressure game or we handle it long enough to come back out on top and apply scoreboard pressure of our own.

4th vs 8th - should be a cracking game.

It's interesting that we typically struggle against these midfields with the contested bulls in them, yet we seem to fair so well against Melbourne's quite often, and they're arguably the best of the lot in this regard.

I wonder if it has anything to do with the Max Gawn situation. Perhaps the fact it's the midfield most used to getting first service vs the midfield most used to the opposition getting first service tips things back to an even playing field.

If so, could be possible we could exploit this angle in the mids again against the Suns, as Witts gives their mids a lot of first use.
