Im loving our depth.

Worpel out, Ward comes in.
Scrimshaw out, CJ comes in
MacDonald out, Gunston comes in.

Ward, CJ and Gunston - all inferior over 4 quarters than the players they're replacing, but all clearly contributed to the win and had some big important moments.

Not sure they're inferior, honestly. They're different. Our ability to shift and not need to replace a player has been pivotal.

Ward offers much more movement and transitional play than Worpel, so our midfield changes to make the most of that while covering the grunt work. CJ offers more line breaking and run than Scrimshaw, so our defence changes to make the most of that while covering for the defensive work and intercept.

Battle was BOG. He's a star.

Ward so impressive.

Finn is very good in tight. Can see a world where he moves into the midfield.

Chol outstanding.

Meek looking tired. Does Ned get a look in soon?

Mackenzie sees the matrix. Seriously good player.
9 day break will do wonders for Meek.

He should be right after that I reckon.

Just watching the highlights now, the notion that we were favoured by the umps, and #freekickhawthorn and all that nonsense is just jealousy-driven bollocks. Feel free to double-check this, I may be wrong, but I counted no fewer than FIVE of Carlton's first eight goals being from frees (a couple via advantage).

Some people just have NO idea....

🤦‍♂️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♀️

I’m still no expert on stats but Ward and Morrison feature in the work rate and running thingamabobs. These blokes are playing for spots and clearly getting the message from Sammy. That’s what separates good teams from bad.

Someone said NO father-son CJ now.
Ha ha ha...

Never fear. I had a state-level baseball pitcher throw a tennis ball directly at my jatz crackers to the point where it winded me back in high school. Didn't impact my swimmers at all - I have no fear about little Jiath Jnrs running around.

That bit of play on the members wing which resulted in Ginnivan passing to Ward was one of the best 15 seconds we've had in years

I have seen a few 'Ginnivan looked quiet' comments but I thought he did pretty well last night and hunted the ball around the ground and was involved in some crucial plays. Did some very unselfish, team first things too.

I haven’t had a chance to watch the game yet as I was at the espy watching Speed last night, but I did happen to see a goal where Curnow got a free kick for what I couldn’t even deem to be worthy from CJ, and then the Carlton player didn’t even know that an advantage had been given?

What was the free for?

No idea. I'm assuming chopping of the arms but it looked like a picture perfect spoil to me.

Was this in the third quarter when they got a goal through a tunnel ball? Bloke threw it like a long snapper in the NFL

It'll be interesting to see how long we select Ginni and Weddle without them playing a game in which they're in the top 8-10 on field. I understand that they can have quiet games, and contribute in "team first" ways, but I think that only lasts so long. It may be BHH starting this week that changes the dynamic.
Weddle was involved and would of had a huge game if he hung onto his marks. Ginni was a bit quiet but he was involved in some key plays. If he's not scoring goals there are other ways you can stay involved and I thought he was ok.

Agree re CJ, he's not a winger, he's a half back.

He's much better when he can get the ball form half back and the whole ground is open in front of him.
He was crucial as a bailout option because of his endurance to get to good spots. Would always see him in a good position last night. Didn't always get the ball but being there to compete was enough.

It was for chopping the arms… somehow. Got the tick of approval from Jack Riewoldt though 🙄
