wow cumberland is being played in a new position ? comes in and kicks like 30 goals in no time last year and now old m8 dimma has him in a new position to learn the craft while we drop 4 points that cumbo wouldve won for us last week
The problem with small forwards are they eventually have to develop other positions as well. All our small forwards have gone by the wayside, Butler, Rioli, Castagna, Higgins have all struggled. The one's like Lambert, Bolton, Martin who have flourished have done so by getting up the ground. MRJ is one small forward who looks like he is at home chasing and pressuring, but we will see.

When he rotates forward he will have his chance near goal, but even a star small forward like Papley goes through the midfield these days.

Still no cumbo.
Trent playing forward instead of cumbo is ridiculous
It is, but he was rarely in the forward line last week. Most of his touches came in the middle or half back line.

gonna be melt city here tomorrow night after the game
And you will be leading the charge
If Ryan has a good game Jack's spot in the side becomes a little less secure and it would definitely put a bit of pressure on him to perform.

Hopefully the three of them can work together. Jack's defensive pressure was pretty good last week.
OMG please, can this board stop saying stupid shit like this, its embarrassing.

Love how everyone wants Cumberland in, but seem unable to comprehend that Dusty & Bolton are the ones he is behind in terms of playing as an attacking goal kicking forward role. At the same time they also can't/won't accept that Cumberland is also reportedly learning a new role that will see him able to play more midfield time and instead float wild theories about why he isn't being played. As for Sonsie not being played, it should be noted that he missed about 4 weeks of training with a hip flexor injury so is probably still building fitness back up. There is plenty of time for both to work their way into the 22 as the season progresses, in the mean time please continue the melts as it's good for a chuckle.

Let's be honest. Some people would defend any move the club makes.

There was no logical sense to shove a 22 year old in 2's who was probably our second or third best performed forward for the last 9 weeks last season. He was put there at the expense of Cotch who should've retired and has never played forward in his career.

But people here still defended it and said it was the right move. And it was a massive failure and last one week. People defended Mansell playing in the forward line round 1 instead because "he brought defensive pressure". How'd that go? Now the excuse is it's Martin keeping him out. I can't keep up. Which one is it?

Martin is 31 years old, playing him 100% forward with no CBA's is a mistake itself. He is not 40. He can't even get 20-30% time in there? That's ridiculous. We look way too slow, one paced and lack explosion and offensive skill in the midfield now with no Dusty and no Sonsie in there as well.

Fact is, we're a better team with Cumberland in (and Sonsie). We're worse team with him out. That's all there is to it.

Why you so mad though? Jack even said himself when he re-signed last year that he might have to spend some time in the VFL this year.

if we miss the 4 by half a game I'll blame dimma dropping 2 points by not playing cumbo and sonsie round 1 and instead playing an experimental vfl player like mansell after going into a final with sonsie and cumbo

Were you one of the ‘must play Stack’ parrots from 2022? We’ve got no idea what’s going on behind closed doors in respect to selection. And I’m not saying we should always assume the club makes correct decisions as they don’t. But I am saying there’s a million things that go into selection beyond just ‘he’s more talented so why isn’t he playing?’

Our team relies on forward half turnovers to be a great side. Is Cumberland any good at creating those? I’ve got no idea, do you? Does Sonsie run well both ways? I’ve got no idea, do you?

Winning games and Premierships is built off an ability to defend as an entire team. And built off an ability to score from creating turnovers. Every attacking and defensive play involves an 18-man collective effort where everyone has to play their part for the team.

Don’t think Trent actually spent that much time forward played his normal role imo maybe with the odd forward stoppage

As it’s been pointed out numerous times it isn’t Trent that is keeping Cumbo out of the side

That's the thing Group, you never know where taking the stairs will lead us. But this year we are taking them. You can only raise the fight to so many flags. Then you need to take the stairs. :)

There was no logical sense to shove a 22 year old in 2's who was probably our second or third best performed forward for the last 9 weeks last season. He was put there at the expense of a near 33 year old Cotch who should've retired and has never played forward in his career.

Fact is that Martin and Bolton are playing ahead of Cumberland as far as the attacking goal kicking forwards role is concerned, I've never deviated from that, others may have chopped and changed on who is keeping him out of the side, but I haven't.

As I've also stated there is reports that Cumberland is being trained up to play more midfield time, which is the role Cotchin is playing and right now Cotchin plays that role much better than Cumberland is capable of doing. Anyone suggesting otherwise is kidding themselves.

Sonsie is the other option to play that hybrid mid/forward role, but as I mentioned last night he missed about 4 weeks with a hip flexor issue so is currently building his fitness levels back up and once he gets up and running I expect he'll be in the mix to get a spot back in the line up.

As for Martin not playing midfield minutes, we all know that he plays where he feels he most needed when he feels he is needed there. So he'll go into the middle when he feels we need it.

It's round 2, and people losing their minds about their favourites not getting picked are making themselves look foolish, unless of course you're suggesting we play guys who aren't ready to go either through lack of fitness or not capable the role being asked of them.

Because no doubt if we did do that the complaints would be rolling in thick and fast about how neither player is having the impact they should.

Appeal nothing more than drumming up an “us against them“ motive.
I think it was more to get on record how inconsistent the whole MRO/tribunal system is. We already knew it was, but normally they can spread the inconsistent decisions out over a few rounds once people have forgotten about the previous incident.

I notice you guys also have those AFL media shills Barrett and Whateley who think their shit doesn't stink gaslighting your club as well. Can both clubs and supporters unite as one tomorrow and raise the middle finger to them at the 23rd minute mark of the game?

Always look forward to games against the Tigers! Gonna be beautiful weather tomorrow in Adelaide. I wouldn't be surprised to see Butts come in for McAdam now that you're playing Ryan, with Sloane moving to half forward and Sholl to the wing.

Miller and Ross unlucky to be omitted . Balta far worst than Miller last week . Normal early season selection BS again it appears .

But they want to play Ryan. So they need to remove our ‘relief’ ruckman (Miller) so Ryan can play a fwd/ruck/bench role.

Balta wasn’t great last week, but it’s not as if McKay kicked 7.

Why you so mad though? Jack even said himself when he re-signed last year that he might have to spend some time in the VFL this year.
Yeah Jack would be aware he is not a lock for best 22. It's a great position to be in teamwise as we can introduce younger players slowly while resting Jack or Cotchin.

According to Footywire, Tex is 194cm and 104 kg. Fogarty is 194 and 99 kg. Himmelberg is 200 and 99 kg. On our side Grimes is 194 and 91 kg. Miller is 198 and 96. Balta is exactly the same as Tex. So height isn't a problem and we probably have them athletically. As long as they aren't given one on one wrestling matches, we should have them covered, but Miller has to play as Ryan isn't a back. And as for the suggestion that we could play Ryan and Miller, I presume that would have to be with Ryan replacing Mansell.

While Ryan is clearly a better player than Mansell, playing three talls is just not on. Compare Adelaide last week, with their three lumbering talls up front. They laid a total of ONE tackle in their forward 50. Meanwhile, supposedly "cooked" Jack Riewoldt laid 5 tackles in our game. The one thing we did really well last week was defend, all around the ground, but particularly in the forward line. Leave the Jurassic Par stuff to the Crows and lets watch Rioli and Short waltz out of their forward line. Down the other end, I'd be for giving my Palawa cousin Mansell a mission to just concentrate on shutting down Laird. He has the pace to do it and it wouldn't matter if he doesn't get a single disposal if he shuts Laird down.
Well, so much for that prediction.
