Miller and Ross unlucky to be omitted . Balta far worst than Miller last week . Normal early season selection BS again it appears .
McKay kicked 1 goal on Balta. He was beaten, sure, but let's not pretend Miller is a better KPD. Plus Ryan has much more potential as a KPF/ruck than Miller.

The great thing here is we seem to ultimately have 5 viable looking options competing for 1-2 positions in our best 22. Soldo, Young, Miller, Ryan and of course Gibcus will return later.

And in running positions: Sonsie, Ross, Clarke, Cumberland, Mansell, Ralphsmith and others competing for 1-2 positions max at this point.

We are pretty close to transitioning out Cotchin, Riewoldt, Tarrant, Grimes, so spots will open up for the best of the current fringe players.

Hope he gets a stat this game or back to the magoos for another 18 months my little pot smoking buddy
How u been bro?
I actually haven’t had a smoke for a month, never felt better

I know Miller ended up going back last week, but reality was, heading into round 1, Miller was considered a 2nd Ruck/Fwd... So replacing him with Ryan is the same structure we went for last week in that role/position.

Young coming in is interesting, I assume on that, Baker will go forward to take Mansell's spot up forward, and Broad will play small???

Agree. Managing the older guys whilst giving the up and comers games is vital and can build our future whilst winning this year. Easy to say, not easy to do.

I missed selection melts, how do people feel about the side?

For mine, if I was to choose between Miller and Young - and even putting aside Miller's ability to ruck - I'd be choosing Miller.

Miller has some experience in the AFL, is taller, faster, and from what I've seen of Young, a better kick than Young...

I also thought Miller did pretty well in his brief stint down back last week.

Mistake, for mine, and honestly Young has looked kinda spud-like from what I've seen. Intraclub form means jack sht.

Agree. Miller was predominantly second ruck and played a little bit down back chopping out the resting defender.

Young comes in as the key defender. Assume it opens up Vlastuin and Grimes to take on the smaller defenders and Broad to play intercept role. Expect more run and bounce out of the back as a result this week.

Samson the 2nd ruck that goes forward. Will be interesting to see when he plays that forward role if he plays deeper. I think he will. But also think his minutes there will be minimal.

I think its fair for supporters to be critical of selection. Especially considering that Richmond seem to use the early rounds to try players out at the top level and sometimes that costs us games.
The trade off is worth it on the long run, but its very frustrating in the short term.

To me it's painfully obvious that we will end up with a settled best 22 that will look something like this...
FB: Grimes Gibcus/Tarrant Vlastuin
HB: Rioli Balta Short
C: Pickett Prestia McIntosh
HF: Bolton Martin Cumberland
FF: Riewoldt Lynch MRJ
FOL: Nank Taranto Hopper

INT: Baker, Graham, Broad, Sonsie
Sub: Cotchin
*I kind of cheated because I dont know how we manage the backline when both Tarrant and Gibcus are fit

This leaves out the likes of Young, Ross, Ryan, Mansell Clarke, Banks, Brown, Ralphsmith etc.

It's just a matter of getting there and getting the players who are best 22 to build their games throughout the season to the level required.

It's definitely frustrating as a fan though, but ultimately giving players like Mansell, Ryan and Young opportunities to develop will hold us in good stead.

cannot have TT,Meatball,Hopper,JGTI and Trent all on the ground at the same time, and Sonsie needs to come in so that means 1 of those 5 has to
go outta the team altogether and i dont think its JGTI after last week,so looking fwd to this game and Dimmas handling on the balance

good side but theres no back up for Nank and hes gonna need it so i think its either Ryan or Miller in for either Hopper,JGTI(depending on form)
or Cotchin that misses out,i dont think we need of all 3 JGTI,Cotchin,Hopper, and Rioli jr is not a lock imo,Clarke oozes class, that positions a watch
similary McIntosh

Nank won't need back up due to our bolstered midfield. Last year he needed it, but this year we could throw Pickett in there and still win clearances.
MRJ, for me, is a lock. He is a pure pressure forward and we need that, because if he isn't in there, the pressure output is severely reduced.

I think it was more to get on record how inconsistent the whole MRO/tribunal system is. We already knew it was, but normally they can spread the inconsistent decisions out over a few rounds once people have forgotten about the previous incident.

I notice you guys also have those AFL media shills Barrett and Whateley who think their s**t doesn't stink gaslighting your club as well. Can both clubs and supporters unite as one tomorrow and raise the middle finger to them at the 23rd minute mark of the game?

Always look forward to games against the Tigers! Gonna be beautiful weather tomorrow in Adelaide. I wouldn't be surprised to see Butts come in for McAdam now that you're playing Ryan, with Sloane moving to half forward and Sholl to the wing.
Mate, anyone who thinks McAdam shouldn't have got at least three weeks for that is kidding themselves. He didn't try to smother, he didn't try to tackle, he didn't even try to bump shoulder to shoulder (the only legal bump available) if you watch carefully he charged in flat out then propped on two feet and launched exactly like an American foootballer blocking. It was vicious and designed to hurt and he's very lucky the kid didn't end up in hospital. This kind of action needs to be stamped out and I would have given him a minimum of four. It doesn't matter if he hit him in the head, the potential for that action to cause serious injury is obvious. We certainly don't want kids launching themselves into oppos with no intention to tackle like that on a Saturday morning in a suburban game because they saw someone do it in AFL.

The fact that Adelaide decided to appeal because a similar (equally cowardly) incident only brought about a two week penalty tells me everything I need to know about your club. Instead of appealing the decision your club should be strongly counselling the player to pull his head in and play footy.

Edit: I note that Nick's today said he had instructed his players to tackle rather than bump. Fair enough.

Yes the AFL is pathetically inconsistent with their decisions but that doesn't excuse the violent action taken by McAdam. He was never going to get off the charge (like Cripps shockingly did for a different but equally non football act) so Adelaide should have shut up and taken their medicine imo. He's bloody lucky he didn't get more weeks added on. Torpedo rugby shoulder charges are NOT what we want in our game.

The bump is NOT dead. You can shoulder/bump someone out of the way in a fight for possession. You can still bump side on shoulder to shoulder. You just cant prop and launch up into someones jaw like Pickett and McAdam and other have done. That what need to be stamped out of the game now.

Don’t think Trent actually spent that much time forward played his normal role imo maybe with the odd forward stoppage

As it’s been pointed out numerous times it isn’t Trent that is keeping Cumbo out of the side
If they can make room for Trent at this point of his career surely they can make room for Cumberland in the forward line.

Maybe one or the other but I think both would be starting to push it in terms of making room for guys just because

It’s all up to Cumbo at this point the coaches have set him the challenge to add a few more strings to his bow and that’s just going to improve him as a player overall
