Toast Round 2 Rising Star Nom: Ryan Burton GET AROUND HIM!

He’s been very good for the last month.

His game against Brisbane was marred by a few errors, but you could see that he was back to his run and gun self.

I think his confidence was down, and the injury and bump criticism didn't allow him to get it back, but now it is building, and he is back to 2017. If we are to make the finals this year so much depends on Dimma, Sis and Burton.

Burto is once again playing like he's got:

Ryan has put together a pretty good year after a few games where he seemed to lose confidence. Hope he can finish off the year really well, still the biggest talent on our list imo.

We’ve seen glimpses of his running attack off half back in the last few weeks. Hopefully he’s building towards doing this more often.

Perhaps being a bit more defensive this year was part of his development plan. But with Sicily out we need him to drive more attack.

Anyway, will be interesting to see if he and Gunston really do play where they were named. Gunston seems to do well up forward against Geelong.

Feel Burto needs to develop a harder edge to his game next year.
I reckon he's a half forward just waiting to explode.

Put him in front of the ball where he dictates the play and see what he can do.

I get the impression it’s a fitness/endurance issue (may be mental). I don’t think he’s soft, but when repeat efforts are required he looks a bit laconic at times. It’s why I’m not sure he is/was ready to be pushed into a midfield role or up on the wings - hopefully another big preseason helps him keep building - fitness and hardness.

I actually thought he finished the year quite well after a slow start, some people a bit harsh on him. (Not you Mojo).

He had some very soft moments last night. Didn't go in as hard as he should. I love the kid and think he will still be a gun but he has to learn to love the hard stuff and put his body and head over it when it's his turn.

I think Burton can look like a million bucks when he has the footy in his hands, clean hands and is usually a really good kick but I think he plays things a little on his own terms, couple of times where he just didn’t have the defensive intent required. He needs to be able to give something defensively as well, games like last night need all hands on deck and I felt at times we didn’t get that from him when we needed to defend

100% agree. Reckon he has everything to be something special for us. Id love to see him as a fwd if we have enough stock to cover him down back. But he did have a couple moments last night where it looked like he didnt go quite as hard at the ground level footy as he probably should have.

With Birch, Stratts and Sis across the half back line and Hardwick, Frawley and Burger down back a move for Burto into the forward line would be one to watch for. I would luv to see him consistently kick multiple goals. We don't need a Lynch, we've got our superman!
