Review Round 20 v Collingwood

I know it's bad form to quote oneself, but this is from the OP of the GD thread:

The "no ducking" rule will be shelved, De Goey will run riot and Cox will have his one good game of the season. Despite this, we'll compete and not lose by as much as you might think.

This'll be one for the happy clappers, but sadly won't herald much progress.

I only quote it because it's depressing how predictable our performances are. No wonder we're so easy to coach against.

(PS It's been said before but Collingwood have risen from 13th to 3rd with a new coach and president. Just sayin')

FWIW, the free against Dixon looked to be there on the replay on the scoreboard. I just assumed the 50 was for dissent but 🤷
Yeah it's pretty much academic either way, we weren't winning that. We all know though that if the strips were reversed it's play on every day of the week.

Instead of losing it over Charlie Dixon do what I have just done and look at the incident.

Firstly there was no free kick as Dixon had both arms in the air contesting the mark. Secondly he does not appear to give away a 50 metre penalty as he looks at the umpire for direction while holding the ball.

I have replayed the incident(s) several times and cannot see a free or a 50 metre penalty. The whole thing is a farce and shows the depths to which Gilion McLachlan has taken the game.

Spare Charlie folks and save your venom for the real culprits - the ******* green maggots.
WTF?

I just watched it.

He pushes Maynard in the back before contesting the mark (yep its a soft free).

He never actually has the ball.

He clearly says something to the umpire triggering the 50.

Very little in it….

it looked like it was for the first player he made contact with

it was probably a shove but the pies player was shepherding the marking contest

it could have gone both ways

No he didn't. But hey, never let the truth or context get in the way of fishin' for likes. He never was having a go at the collective and basically every interview I have ever heard from this guy he's been so grateful to our supporters, yet here you go.

Dixon specially said "a couple', "not the majority", when addressing the sticker issue. Go listen to the interview yourself before trying to hang a guy on the back of something he didn't actually say.

He was defending Ken, like all the players do and will from every single Club in the competition if their coach/teammate etc come under attack.

What would you really expect him to say?

The group attack on people has been sickening on here lately, and worse when it appears making s**t up to fit all comfy like in to your 'reality' seems an ok thing to do.

It isn't.
He can still **** off... It's not the first time.

It was funny listening to the outrage at the umpires from the Collingwood supporters, particularly because I was not invested in our result.

Anyway, the lack of structure, particularly as we tried to close the gap in the last, was telling. That loss was absolutely down to bad selections and bad coaching.

I am certain the umpire said something back to Dixon, I'm pretty good at reading lips and what I got was, Charlie that was not too intelligent, then Dixon said back to the ump, what would you know about footy, then the ump said have look at yourself Charlie, 50m.

I’m trying to understand by what measures his SANFL form was good enough to get selected in the first place, and his AFL form was sufficient to merit more than his debut game as sub against St Kilda.

Goals - no
Forward chasing - no
Goal assists - no
Tackling - no
Attempted tackling - no
Air tackling - no
Smothers - no
Attempted smothers - no
Intense hand waving when standing the mark - no

WTF is he doing at any level that firstly justifies wearing bright red boots and secondly being given a moment’s thought by the coaches and selectors?

Loved Jase’s game. Butters is building. Rozee is good but could be better. Marshall did some good things but let himself and the team down when it counted.

Collingwood are not that good. Their decision making and execution going into attack are often woeful. We should be better than that but we have the least tactically astute coach possible in the box.

Acknowledged that we need a new coach, but the team posseses a deplorable skill set.
Never mind the coach, when does a person self assess his own ability?
Does Duursma think he is a skilled kicker of the footy in his own mind? Does he say," I need to go away and practise this shortfall?"
Do they think like Powell-Pepper, whose kicking capability has improved dramatically, despite looking a bit unnatural at it? No doubt he has put in time at it.
They should make Pepper vice captian, if only to show others how to maximise the available talent.

I have no idea how anybody can find a way to give a * about that Dixon free lol

It probably got us a higher draft pick
Because it's blatant cheating and will happen over and over again until it's stamped out..

But nah yeah higher draft pick ..

Cool that poor campaigner will be cooked by ken anyway

Being the number one 'tap to' mid, and having no ruck, might have something to do with it. He's not an outside mid and doesn't have the pace to make up ground on the outside mids in the contest.

I think you are right. Trying to snare the ball to a ruck that gets flogged each week cannot be easy. We lost the hit outs 46-17 today yet Ollie still gathered 30 possessions so he was not that bad. You cannot keep giving the opposition double the effective hit outs and expect your mids to be running red hot.

Really took a lot from this afternoon's game

Spent the first half assembling flat pack furniture, took a nap and did a bit of tidying up during the third quarter, then went and ran 8km for the last quarter

Came back to see the predictable result.

The 0-5 is coming round again
