I would love you to be 100% right - on all 4 of your ins!!!

Alas I actually think none of those 4 will play. Indeed Selwood is as likely as the other 3 - which I think is a shame.

This is not a view of what I think should happen. I would put in Knevitt, Neale and Dempsey. NOT because I have given up on the season but if we are going to make finals we need to have a few more younger players with speed ready to play. It isn’t about this week (nor 2024) but the reason of the season. If we can’t beat Port on a losing streak at our fortress with a few younger players then no point winning as we won’t do any damage given our old list just won’t hold together - we now have evidence.

But the club I am convinced think the exact opposite. They will replace old injured players with “tried and tested”…They will move Henry forward (yes he is our best option forward but again I don’t see us doing damage in finals with him not in defence!!)

Out : Blitz, Hawkins and TBC (managed)
In: Sav, Parfitt and Menegola

Emergencies will be Bews, MOC, Knevitt, Dempsey (MOC will stay sub)

Menegola will play as a big body to replace Blicavs in midfield.

Bews in for Bowes.

Neale is a straight swap for Hawk.

Esava into the backline and extra ruck support for maybe Tuohy or Smith.

The young ones Knevitt and Dempsey will struggle to get a game I think, which I think is unfortunate.

O’Connor will stay in 23.
Reckon you will be pretty close (not because I want you to be right - I would put in Dempsey and Knevitt - but they wont)

I don’t think they will play Neale though - they will move Henry forward and put Sav back.

Bews is possible but I reckon that could be menegola instead (they have MOC and 2E in the 23 to cover the back line)

I don’t like the fact that they will bring back people I think they should move on from (to get Dempsey and Knevitt a block this year)…but I think they are not going to be courageous at all

About the 1:30 mark of this suggests Rohan may be in some doubt with an ankle concern

If we're potentially down 2 recognised forwards, surely it's all the more reason to bring in Neale

Hawkins-Blitz-Rohan

Neale-mid of choice-Dempsey

My mid of choice is Knevitt but I could live with other options

If I see Duncan in the backline again I’ll be sick. Get him up on the wing.

I reckon they will play Henry fwd but it has to be Neale. Hawkins is going on again so we need to take every single chance we get to give Neale games. You can almost put a line through him if he’s only played 5 games going into 2025.

Port have no ruck so we don’t need Esava. He’s leaving anyway. Surely Knevitt is ahead of Menegola. Both in the now and the future.

I get the feeling I'm gonna go full Chernobyl at the selection announcement
It’s really got that stink about it.

Then they're not fair dinkum.

I agree that if fit, Neale should play. There could not be a more perfect set up for him to come in than Hawkins & Blicavs both out, so if he doesn't, surely that says something pretty serious about how the club views him.
I agree with the first bit and I understand why you would say the last bit….but I think it says something more about how the club thinks full stop and less about what it specifically thinks of Neale…. By that I mean the club is just hell bent on proving everyone wrong. That the existing players will turn it around like they have said…best is good enough…we are dangerous…. to switch to a new untried person (Neale, dempsey, Knevitt) it will be saying that we need to change from the view that the players we have backed have a game that will challenge the best.

They are going to roll the dice this week on the belief that Sav, Parf/Menegola (and MOC back in the team) can fit back into team more seamlessly and less risk than the younger guys. They know Henry can play forward (and I agree he can - he can play anywhere…imo he makes us better when he is back!)…and Sav can do ok as replacement down back - so to me that is a certainty Rather than risk Neale…. I also think they will back Parf and/or Menegola over the kids

I am “pre-melting” and maybe I will be pleasantly surprised…but I doubt it. And actually I think Geelong can beat Port this week (no matter which 2-3 they bring back in!!) and then their strategy will be reinforced (even though I would play young players and win and be reinforced that way!!)… Funny if they lose this week then Collingwood is true elimination final and I doubt they will ”risk” young players then….so unfortunately I think we have 2 weeks of not seeing any real change…

shame VFL not playing this week to be honest

Dempsey looks like he has every trick in the book to me.

Just will take time.
At VFL level maybe. But he looks completely out of his depth at AFL.

He has only played 6 games though so I probably shouldn’t be too hard on him.
I’m just yet to see anything really from him at AFL level.

I think we've just been really spoiled as fans over the last fifteen years, and we've blooded very minimal first-time AFL players.

Like you say, the kid has played 6 games. I remember a lot of our great players being pretty unimpressive after a handful of games.
