Their midfield is pretty average in all honesty we should be breaking even with that brigade even without Guthrie, one of the poorer clearance sides in the comp and were absolutely smashed in that area the last fortnight.
They were beaten last week by the 16th team 18-3 in centre bounce clearances…

It’s not the midfield where they will kill us, it’s on transition.
Bingo. We need some of Close, Holmes, Z.Guthrie and if at all possible any veterans to step up their pressure/tackling game. We had Mitch bloody Duncan laying more tackles than half a dozen players combined who had every capacity to lay just as many individually.

Happy to be corrected or explained to me why I shouldn’t be concerned.

Unsure about Kolo on Elliott + Zuthrie on Pendlebury. I’d prefer to have Stewart on Pendlebury + Zuthrie on Adams. Or Tuohy on either Pendlebury or Adams.

Naming Bews as an emergency? Are they teasing us?

Mathew Nicholls aka Dopey + Simon Meredith are umpiring 🤦🏻‍♀️

Well so much for this match being fully ticketed.

Via the mcg website says GA available: Q1-Q7, Rows Q-DD.

And FWIW- Geelong CS end is M3.

🤔

Maybe I'll skip out on my seat which it the other end of the ground and above the Collingwood cheer squad, and instead sit the Geelong end of the ground

Match ups won't be based on those team sheets unless by coincidence.

Pendles for instance will spend most of his time in midfield or at half back.

Z.Guthrie may play on Elliot. We don't have a great match up.

Bowes probably on a resting midfielder like Adams.

Stewart I'd say McCreery.

Ratugolea and De Koning you'd expect to take McStay and Miochek - I can't see who else they'd play on.

Ash Johnson would probably be an ideal fit for Kolo.

Row Q's pretty shit tho. If you got a better seat at the other end, I'd stick personally.

Pies have been smashed in the media all week with many writing them off and saying the've been worked out. I expect them to come out firing tonight so better be on.
We will learn more against a desperate Pies, as we did a desperate Port trying to cling onto top 2 - than playing teams who can afford to take the foot off the gas.

3 losses on the trot heading into a match vs Brisbane would be ringing alarm bells through the Collingwood camp. If we win this then one might even say we have a sprinkle of "The Danger" about us.

Pies have a better midfield group
Cats have better forward and back
Blues n Hawks stopped their mids
If Cats can't slow Pies mids early
Must go fast break counterattack.
Outscore them as Cats did to Port.
Don't wait till Q4 to cut loose.

Great to see Neale back in the squad
Just needs to be a potential threat
Keep the Pies defenders occupied.
Make them pay if they don't

Not sure what we'll be watching
The end of an era or the future.

Two of AFL’s most dominant teams in recent years for a season defining game, a vital opportunity for Geelong to cling to Finals hope.

Collingwood has AFL’s best Defence, only yielding 71.6 points a game. Geelong has lost dominance + are seventh, giving up 77.7.
Offensively the two teams are both top six: Geelong sit fourth at 92.7 points an outing, while the Pies are right behind them at 91.6 in sixth.
I50s: 54 each
Disposal Efficiency: Pies 73 to Cats 71
Efficiency I50: Pies 48% Cats 50%
Fairly even on Stoppages Averages + equal with CC 12 each
Quite Even on Possession Averages, with Pies leading Uncontested Possessions 224 to 199
Defence + Marking Averages a very close too.
Bounces: Pies 7 Cats 5
1%rs: Pies 48 Cats 42

Jezza has 81 goals in 30 games at the MCG, need his magic goal kicking boots on tonight.
Hopefully we rise to defeat Pies, just as lower ranked teams usually rise against us, when we’re on top.

Ollie Henry first game in the Hoops against Pies. I reckon our guys will be protective of him. Will Pies’ players be rough on him? I know Pies’ fans will be.
EDIT:
CORRECTION - Ollie played in Rd 2

Was just checking who reads my posts
😜

Thought they might be higher ranked for clearances than ladder spot suggests so looked up clearance stats by team and Hawks are actually dead last for both total and centre clearances. Bit of a confidence boost.

A fit 23 looks very different for both teams but feel cats are a good chance tonight. Hope Neale can kick a couple of goals. Interested to see who plays on Elliott and Ginnivan – Bews in the emergencies smells a bit like a late out.

Ollie played R1, kicked 2 goals

Don't know if this is an omen for tonight or not, but I just saw a magpie lying on its back on my front lawn screeching for help. :D

Throw them a chip + watch them fight over it

Actually, Kitty, his first game in the hoops was against the Pies.

EDIT: Sorry, late to the party on this one.
Thanks GYC
