Review Round 23, 2021 - Brisbane Lions vs. West Coast

Fagan needs to have a long hard think about the backline. Too long he’s back the plodders in. We cannot play Lester birch Gardiner and andrews. There is a need for speed against all top 8 teams. 2qtrs of footy ain’t gonna cut it come next week. Gardiner so so poor tonight. Hoping he learns a lot and gets the fitness he needs.

Yes I’m happy we made the 4 but there is a lot to learn from that game. Absolutely towelled up in the ruck again. Nic Nat was immense.

Gardiner doesn't usually play that poorly. Lester has deficiencies but I think offers enough that in the right unit he can contribute solidly, though I'd generally prefer Madden I think with finals I'll back his experience. Have run out of reasons for Birchall being in the team.

It's not often you are that many goals in front with 4 minutes to go and you are having a heart attack - next year we will have to remember this when people type stuff early in the season about percentage not mattering!

My wife was concerned at how red my face was at the end.

I though that last kick by Linc was out of the full so was stunned (in a good way) when it turned into a point so even that was a shock.

That was two very unrelaxing games (this and last night) - my empathetic streak is quietly feeling sorry for the Dogs fans but it is being shouted down by my glorying-in-our-win Lions' streak!

Well done boys - and while never in doubt would have been cool we will remember this better.

Btw whoever it was early on who typed something like 'this is boring' please don't type that again!!!!!

How was not a mark for bailey, it looked like it travelled 20metres at least. Great win, hopefully everyone at home made it out unscathed that was intense. I was borderline walking away from it a few times, and just wanting to watch the replay

agreed. What he showed tonight though was a petulance we haven’t seen for 3 years. Sloppy frees and watching the man rather than backing his judgement in the air to spoil.
Lester wasn’t too bad. Birchall as per usual leaked defensively more than he gave offensively.

Rich had a good game. Starc was solid and Adam’s better for the run.

Can anyone explain the 6 week TBC on Answerth? I know he won’t play this year but it’s been like that for ages.

Lot of respect for the Eagles tonight. They could've come out waving the white flag with those changes coming into the game. Instead they really made us earn it - heart was in the mouth every time Sydney starting appearing on the live ladder. Hopefully the Eagles bringing their A game, if not their A staff, has shown us how switched on we need to be next week.

Or ignoring the blatant calls against us in that very game. I don't think umpiring was spectacular, it rarely ever is anymore, but it didn't determine the ultimate result.

He had some really important aerial contests as a defender where he didn't give away the free and then instantly pushed to become a link in attack. His attacking instincts are really impressive and he's tightening defensively and contributing quite well. He also seems a lot fitter than I thought. There's simply no justification for dropping him.
