Body language looked like it was his last. They got around him when he kicked it even though we were well cooked

Was a bit sad watching Mitch potentially kick his last goal as a lion.

I still think we can beat Richmond at home if that's the matchup. Not too many other posters are with me. But we'll see.
Yeah, I think you guys should comfortably beat the Tigers at home, and I'd be nervous if you ended up against us at the SCG the next week. Problem is you're almost guaranteed to be playing at the MCG in week 2 or 3.

There was a play when both Daniher and Cameron were trying to corrall the ball in forward pocket. Hibberd handballs to Rivers (or someone else can't remember), runs right past Daniher like he doesn't exist, gets the handball receive and kept going. It seems we forgot man on man yesterday and were literally all in panic as the ball kept getting pounded into our F50.

The thing with Zorko. Reminds me of Aker near the end of his time with the lions
Does too many stupid things and all it does is get the other team going
Not sure how many stupid frees or 50's led to teams playing better against us.
Teams know a little niggle and he explode.

You say pull your head in although he has white line fever.
Problem is he is our Captain.

We have no on field leaders that lead by example.

Honestly thinking about who be our next Captain.
Neale although not sure he want it he happy to do it. Does the team thing although just do not see it
Andrews.. Just as bad as Zorko
Rich about to go soon.
Bailey was talked about being a leader not sure he ready yet.

So who?
Berry tries his guts out every week maybe
Hugh not sure he want it
Linc goes missing in games

I thought about all of our players who always tries the best who always trying to be up and carrying them
Only comes to one outside choice.

Captain Oscar it is.

I actually think Neale makes the most sense for next captain:

-He has many more good games than bad and drags us over the line later in games when it counts.
-I don't think he would feel any additional pressure whist loving attaining high achievement.
-He doesn't throw the toys out of the cot no matter how much attention he gets.
-The younger players all look up to him and he gets lots of mentions for helping mentor younger players.
-And it might just inspire our new look midfield next year to get around him and help drop off those tags.

Plus I get goose bumps just thinking of Will Ashcroft yelling "TO THE CAPTAIN!" in the heat of battle. ;)

Missed this during the game, ouch...

Zorko - not acceptabl…pathetic

key forwards - continually owned by May & Lever

Mathieson - I don’t get the hype, Oliver ran off him last night like he was Robinson

on field leaders - lacking

Melbourne own us - we bring out their best - which is the best I’ve seen this year…twice unfortunately

This may be a bit controversial but I see Neale more self-centric than being able to inspire and carry the group as a whole. I sometimes wonder if that extra push around doing things, winning hero ball and going for impossible kicks in Q4 is being done with one eye on brownlow vote. But that's just me wearing the cynical hat on and not looking at it objectively. The one thing we definitely get from Neale is ultra professionalism and consistency in output. But we may need a bit more than that from the Captain of the footy club.

It's a bit similar to our AFLW Lions, Emily Bates is the MVP, league best n fairest footballer across the whole comp last year. But Captain and Vice captain went to Koenen and Grider this year.

The crowd getting up for it was pleasing
The crowd were definitely behind him, and it was great to be there to watch him take probably his last shot. I've loved having Robbo at the club, he has so much passion, but this last year has not been great footy from him. I'd love to see him stay involved in the club. I think Tom Berry is a great replacement for us there.

If Fages doesn't make some big calls this off season (understanding that it's not completely in his hands) then 2024 needs to see a new coach. Could it be Noble?

a beautiful morning today. Footy seems so silly when looking at the blue sky ;)

I feel bad for Bailey last night. He was doing more of the grunt running and distributing it seemed and was trying really hard. Especially after he is finally getting back into form.

Its easy to say we just made too many mistakes.. when we obviously did. But its not the whole story. So so so many times we just miffed a kick, trying to go for something. We played badly, but Melbourne were just rolling nicely, they had the confidence and composure for that added ..1%. That combined with us making 1% errors and 5% less pressure or whatever just compounded and compounded over and over to make us go at negative 50% which looked horrendous.

Now I am trash at math, but in my outlook, we don't actually need to make up that 50% to win the matches.
We only need to make up the 7% of NOT making those dinky errors over and over, and PUTTING in the pressure.

Of course our i50 entries are another matter, but that can be overcome if we fix the other two things.

Sure this isn't a dynasty winning strategy, but it can make us a force to be reckoned with if we implement it. And we can score some finals.. and then who knows.

or maybe the sky is falling and we're just plain bad. what do I know. I am just a guy enjoying my saturday morning, and looking forward to us trying to win some finals!

As a great man once said, things are never as good or bad as they seem and you are right. This season has demonstrated that you only have to be a few percent off your game and things go pear shaped pretty quickly. It's happened to other "good" teams this season. Melbourne's form has been far from stellar and since their early undefeated run, they were just as patchy and inconsistent as we have been, even during the course of a match.

Last night for a second time in 2022, they had a night out and we couldn't do a thing right

We have two weeks to recover. Apart from two bad losses to our bogey team Melbourne, we have been in every one of our other losses.

We will have a home final.

We CAN still do some damage . Perhaps the best match up first week would actually be against Richmond, where we almost certainly go in as underdogs with nothing to lose.

I just have to remain positive and trust we still have something to say as a club before we are done for the year.

That's it? He's said sorry and once again said he'll control his emotions? Have some back bone, bench him and replace his position next year.

The club continues to enable Zorko’s behaviour.

So if not him who, we aren't exactly awash with alternatives?

I don't think we will get much more than that 2 weeks out from finals. The offseason and the discussions on ongoing leadership positions will be where get get to the nitty gritty. (that's if he gets another contract)

seeming as we don't know exactly what was said etc etc... eugh its just messy all around.

Looks like the rumour about it being directed at his Mother with cancer, is being reported by Sam Edmund.

If true, the club had better stand him down as skipper and sit him out for a game or two.
Never wanted to admit to myself that our club captain was a flog. But this just cements it.

Where has it all gone wrong with this club? Lack of leadership from the top down.

So if not him who, we aren't exactly awash with alternatives?

Great question. I'm tempted to go for one of the wild cards - Rayner, Bailey, Starcevich.

I am still wondering who would respond best and raise to the occasion.

Since I haven't seen it mentioned yet Happy 100th game as a Lion Charlie! We didn't win, but you know.....😬

The sound of the dees being cheered off the ground and their song being sung must have made it feel 'extra special'.

That's it? He's said sorry and once again said he'll control his emotions? Have some back bone, bench him and replace his position next year.
Lol that’s truly a horrible response and smacks of trying to sweep it under the carpet asap.

Counselled by the club? The bloke’s 33 years old ffs, not 19.
