We literally have 3 of our best back 6 out for the season and our best back up (Gardiner)…I think we’re holding up ok…yeah it sucks that they’re all injured but can’t we keep some perspective?
I get what you are saying but I think the issue is winning the 50/50's in the middle of the ground. Many times I think we are away only to cook the goose. I feel like our team thinks they are so good that the tal will take care of the game. Unfortunately 9in a row reinforces this mentality. Maybe in wrong. 🤷

Imagine having a coach who smiles in a press conference after that performance. Successful coaches like Clarkson, Scott and Hardwick would be fuming, our players are operating in a soft environment.

……and yet if port lose tonight and next week, we beat Essendon it’s a top 4 spot

We lost because were not mentally tough enough...that's why players like Bailey can laugh 1 mins after we've dropped the double chance and he personally has coughed up the game with no awareness as well as a simple shot missed from 15m out in the 3rd ...and Rayner miss also amateurish too. Not mentally strong enough when its counts.

Do some people not have friends? Like the kind of people you could have a light laugh with no matter how shit something has gone? What do people expect?

“Sorry Dan I know we’re good mates and we are jumping on a flight home so this is probably the last chance we have to talk in person for the month but I just stuffed up something at work so I’m going to put on a frown and just talk about how I’m terrible.”

I doubt our players were doing a lot of laughing with each other, the players they actually work with and all messed up together. Some of y’all need to chill.

yes - fair point - and I'm not actually as critical of the defenders - it's more that the defensive mindset/helping out the defenders needs to be a whole team thing - I've felt that all the teams that do well in finals and win premierships tend to have this - but it never seemed to have been a focus - I can't believe some of the forwards/mids such as Bailey and Rayner have 0-1 tackles a game - especially when they don't get much of the ball themselves - they should at least be working hard defensively/tackling to get themselves into the game

fair point.

I'm more thinking about pressing home to some of the other mids and small forwards about the need to tackle and help out/run hard defensively - so many of our players have 0-1 tackles a game which is frankly embarrassing. Charlie is the only one who I've noticed in the past few months of helping out in the backline
Joe has popped up in the backline quite a bit recently.

Can't recall another team that throws away more wins than us in this kind of fashion. This year alone I can think of 4 games; Carlton up 45, Adelaide up 18 with 10 mins left, GWS miss fest and today. Not to mention melbourne last year and losing close finals nearly every year. They just find new ways to mess with you I actually can't believe it. I love this club and think we have an incredibly talented group but could you argue with anyone who called us choke artists? Look at our track record over the last few years? Winning the premiership becomes infinitely tougher after today and it was entirely our own doing. Unbelievable.
It hurts

We’ve gotta remember that next year Neale, Daniher, Zorko are a year older. The cliff is coming so we better find a flag or we’ve blown it.
I'm quite comfortable that we'll survive without Daniher and Zorko - those two aren't going to make or break a Premiership. Who knows, it may even be addition by subtraction with Logan and Kiddy on the rise.

Neale is another story. But we saw what Geelong were finally able to do with a fading Selwood. The Pies to a lesser extent with Pendlebury last season. And I'm pretty confident we have some options in the midfield.

A very narrow Grand Final Loss. With mostly this group.
That's a hell of a lot to show for it.
Most current Teams would give up a Top player just to be there in that position.
Could still get there yet this year too.
Yep. Nothing to show is somehow still better than literally 2/3rds of the competition. Might as well disband the competition since only 1 in 18 win every year, so 17/18ths are failures and should be burning the place down.

I was just going to demand we sack the coach, but disbanding the competition is also something I can get behind

I watched Fagan’s presser - he seemed to be grumpy Fages again to my eyes. Equally as pissed as everyone else at the missed opportunities in the 3rd.
Last week he blamed something else in the press conference, this week it was all about missed chances in the 3rd quarter.

For me he’s coached them well enough to be in winning positions. He can’t kick the goals himself. 3rd quarter this week 3.5 and at least 3 golden opportunities resulted in nothing. Last week 8.16 to 13.4. He can’t kick the goals himself!

We did. We replaced Lyons with Dunkley for that exact reason

We also got Wilmot, recruited Doedee as an intercept defender. Switched out our defensive and forward coaches which led to better defensive structure and forwards who put in more defensive work.

Our defensive stoppage work the last two weeks in close games has been horrendous, but yeah to say there’s been no attempt to improve upon it is baseless. Not everything works, and we probably made adjustments that didn’t work.

Positives of a 5th place finish:

  • Avoid playing the swans until the GF assuming 4th loses to 1st in the Qualifying and we win the elimination
  • A semi final against likely Port Adelaide which is bread and butter for us and another straight sets exit for Port
  • A prelim against GWS or Geelong away. This is where it gets tough - but it's doable
  • GF against the Swans (or Bulldogs)

They simply just don’t care. You see it in the interviews with people at the club in the games leading up to the Giants and this game with the crap they spew. Hell listen to Lachie on 360 this past week; he’s FOS and they all are. They aren’t ruthless or doing everything they can and simply taking this dominance for granted. You can’t say they aren’t because they’re literally pissing it away and every year for years on this board people have been banging on that it’ll be next year or the year. It’s never the current year we’ll win it and every 12 months later the same crap is regurgitated that next year is the year.

I suspect Fagan is of the same view because he’s back to that slow reactionary terrible match day coach and again playing two rucks when no one else does. Are we really surprised?

We just got beaten by a team playing two rucks 🤣

It’s all part of [fagans] plan for us

You'll need to hope GWS don't finish 4th because from memory they're undefeated against the Swans and it's always as lower seeds.

Really; a grand final loss is something to show is it?

Cmon; how can you say that with a straight face.

Next thing you’ll be telling me that finishing second and third at the Olympics is something to go ape shit about.

Fages pressers have been really good of late. He is calm and measured and doesn’t blame umpiring just deals with facts. He would have been shattered and still managed to be professional.

Its so even that it feels like if ever a team can win it from outside the top 4 it could be this year. Our away form has been decent so I'd back us against anyone
