What an amazing round of football.

We needed to beat - or thought we needed to beat - both the Dockers and Dogs to make the top four, and even then it wasn’t certain. But with other results going our way, we’re now guaranteed the double-chance, and are right in the mix for the top two and a home qualifying final. Are the stars aligning for something special?

It’s important to note that Saturday was a different sort of win to the thrillers against the Demons, Hawthorn, and Brisbane. Against them we were the hunter. We allowed them to get a break and were forced to run them down. We felt elation when we won.

This time, we were the hunted. Every time we kicked a goal the Dockers replied and to their credit, never gave up. Maybe I was being too nervous, knowing how much the win would mean, but it always felt like we might lose. The final siren was a huge relief.

A big shout out to Jesse Hogan, now equal record-holder to JC for goals kicked in a season, and all but certain to win the club’s second Coleman Medal. Jesse, it's always a pleasure to watch you play.

Let’s have a look at possible changes for Ballarat. There were quite a few sore bodies yesterday; Buckley was visibly struggling at one point, and along with Briggs and Peatling, went off injured during the fourth quarter. Ash got a week for his tackle on Hayden Young.

Assuming Buckley, Briggs and Peatling recover, here’s a possible line-up:

FB [44] Jack Buckley [15] Sam Taylor [39] Connor Idun
HB [6] Lachie Whitfield [27] Harry Himmelberg [36] Harry Perryman
C [8] Callan Ward [12] Tom Green [3] Stephen Coniglio
HF [16] Brent Daniels [5] Aaron Cadman [20] James Peatling
FF [2] Darcy Jones [23] Jesse Hogan [4] Toby Greene

FOL [32] Kieren Briggs [22] Josh Kelly [14] Toby Bedford

IC [17] Finn Callaghan [25] Lachlan Keeffe [28] Harvey Thomas [33] Xavier O'Halloran

McMullin was subbed out in the last quarter; I’m not sure if it had anything to do with his reported groin injury, lack of impact, or both. I think Harvey Thomas will get a recall. Buckley will probably move to fullback with Ash out and Himmelberg might replace Buckley at halfback. If Buckley doesn’t play, I would prefer Joe Fonti instead of Haynes. X can play off the interchange.

This is arguably a stronger side than Round 10. Back then, we were missing Ash and Kelly; Wehr, Riccardi and Haynes were part of the line-up. We were out-scored by 30 scoring shots to 13 and lucky not to suffer a really bad loss.

These last few weeks have been great preparation for finals, playing hard games against in-form teams. The Dogs blew their chance at the top four, but after their witches-hat win against North are chasing a home elimination final and have something to play for. Our biggest threat is switching off. Victory here would be the perfect finals tune-up.

Can we finish the home-and-away season with a record eighth win?

P.S. To all Sydney Giants, please try and attend this week’s Watch Party, wherever the venue. They’re the next best thing to being at the game.

So, if GWS beat Bulldogs, and Freo beat Port, together with expected Hawks and Carlton wins, Bulldogs would be knocked out of finals.

So, let's go Giants!

Presuming Ash remains banned, I'd expect Stone to come in and take his place, with no change to the rest of the defence line-up and roles. Alternatively, we could recall Fonti, whose running game is perhaps closer in style.

Some of the other question marks may come down to the Dogs' line-up. With English a query as to whether he'll return, if there's a query on Briggs, we may elect to come back to having Lachie Keeffe ruck solo (which could be against Rory Lobb primarily, who won't like Lachie barging into him all day).

If McMullin is tender, then I agree Harvey likely comes back in; if Muff is OK, then does Harvey get a guernsey or not? If Stone comes in for Ash, Harvey might get the sub role.

Everything else, I'll wait until Tuesday's injury report to see what it says!

What do we wish for as a club?

The opportunity to finish Top 2 and knock the Poodles out of finals.

Wish granted this coming week.

Let’s pile the pressure on the Poodles - who have more at stake than us in this match - and watch them crack.

A positive for us that we’re playing at their wasteland location as we’re specialists at bizarre location away fixtures.

ps. Freo will beat Port, so let’s make sure we do our part.

McMullin has been great, so I can't agree with any suggestions of Thomas replacing him unless there's an injury.

Stone for Ash if we don't win at the tribunal, with Fonti in as sub.

With a week off before finals we should go hard and aim for a top 2 spot. It might not happen depending on the Port v Freo game, but you've got to think the Dockers are a decent chance over there.

Port copped a couple of injuries plus the suspension and Freo are expected tog at Darcy & Treacy back so are every chance to knock off port at home.

not really sure why but dogs are heavy favourites to win this week. We knocked them off last year at mars and are the form team of the comp and second favourite for the premiership.

Few fun facts.
*5/6 of our double up games are against top 8
*in double ups apart from the swans, we have won in each of the return legs
*we have won 8 of last 10 and knocked off 5 of top 9 teams in that stretch with only top 8 loss being swans.
* 4 of first 5 games were against bottom 6 so we have easily had the hardest draw in the comp from round 6 (only played bottom 6 3 times in 18 games since)

We are primed for September!

Alot of love for what Sam Darcy might do in the finals series, I wonder if we consider playing Keefe down back at time.

I think we can win this game, but probably not the penalty count.

The Dogs match is going to be hard. They are the firm favourites and have won an incredible 6 of their last 7 matches against us. The exception was the one and only time we played at Ballarat where we beat them by a thrilling 5 points. As a “glass half full person”, I take solace in the fact that we have a 100% win record against the Poodles at Ballarat!

Let's make them our "Ballarat Bitches" then!
