Perfect day out here as a spectator. Nice and sunny but with a cool breeze that picks up and drops off in different directions. I don't envy set shot takers with it as they'll have to adjust through the game.

Ed Phillips caught a lull in the breeze for a beautiful drop punt set shot from 50 on the boundary.

BH 2-3-15 SANDY 0-4-4

Hawks with the lead but not most of the play. A lot of the game has been scrappy and under pressure.

Was an interesting one. First because his brother kicked it to him, secondly because he marked it 55 m out, and the Sandringham player on the mark was caught napping and stood 45 m out. Phillips kicked it from 2 m in front of where he marked it.

Ned Long carving them up with 6 tackles in the first quarter. Superb early tap on too which doesn't gain a stat but clearly a good footy mind.

Shiels and TPhillips dominating possession early.

Yep, he correctly thought Ed couldn't kick it 60 so dropped off to be able to cover ground and not get caught by the stand rule.

But then the ump called "outside 5" and he had no choice but to let him kick from that range.

Shiels is too good for VFL. What's Mitchell's reasoning? Is he trying to force him to request a trade at years end? If that's the case, don't expect too much in return.

He's had 2 weeks out for the birth of his kid (and maybe a niggle). He's come back and imo looks a touch off it.

Nothing about forcing a trade, but putting him in now for someone like Nash or Ward wouldn't make much sense for what Mitchell wants to build.

The young minds need exposure and time togetherat AFL level.

Make that 8 tackles

Ah ok. Birth of a kid, I understand, but to keep him in there just to blood experience into the kids, is a bit rich.
