Yeah, I would like to see him get a crack instead of Holman to see how much it improves our forward threat.

I agree that with these other guys playing forward someone like Holman can be expendable. It will take our selection committee far too long to pull the trigger, if they even would consider it.
Holman is clearly a favourite and he brought physicality at a time when we needed it. I understand why he is in the team. But at a certain point, output or potential has to outweigh other things. Holman has no more upside; if anything, he seems to be declining, and his output this year has been sub par. He tries hard, but he doesn’t seem fast enough to pressure the half-backs of the modern game and lock the ball in the way he might have a few seasons ago.

Jeffrey and Rosas have clearly improved their pressure game immensely, have more speed and skill, and also hit the scoreboard with more frequency, so Holman might become redundant.

Clearly looking to beat them for pace. Don't know if it will work but don't mind those changes.
We should definitely be quicker than last week. Farrar is much quicker than Constable and I wouldn't be surprised if Ace was quicker than Sexton. I'd guess Powell is just as quick as Uwland (if not quicker) so overall we should be faster and more skilful around the ground.

I'd still like Ellis and Buddas in the team but I was pretty happy with what I saw from Macpherson in the backline last week and we saw some good stuff from Luko on the wing in the first quarter so overall this is a pretty good lineup for us. This feels like a team that's capable of winning more often than not.

Yes. And yet we saw holman on the wing in the practice matches before someone like sharp.

Shoe horning the favourites in in any way possible.

Holman did have a decent year last year. Top 10 in i50 tackles. But Mally rated just as high per game and could replace that whilst playing someone else with a different skill set.

I’ll be paying close attention to Holman this game. I truely think that for us to take the next step, effort/standard-setters like him need to be rotated out as the younger players step up. Or he needs to lift consistently, big time.

Hollands, Humphrey, Flanders. All could take his role comfy without much loss. Rosas and Jeffery already are showing more this season.

And don’t get me started on who we play on a wing… pet peeve of mine. I’m so glad we’ve added speed back this week. Hopefully it pays off, because it’s what the best teams have and I would love to see us use it to complement our pressure game.

Last year we finished 12th. So far:

I think only Rowell of the younger players (23 and under) is clearly playing better than last year.
Of the prime age players (24-28), none are playing better.
Of the older players (29+), only Wittsy is going better (which is amazing when you think of it).
Of the fringe players, only DMac has stepped up and looks like a more useful player than last year.

Still early, but if we don't see much better play from individuals, then in the last part of the year we are going to see a lot of debuts (Moyle, the Bear, LloydJ, Oscar! and Brocky) and plenty of games into the 'youngsters'. Good fun at the time, but ultimately a sign of defeat.

Clarity of decisions and where to go and when to go does come from the coaches and game plan and game style, and that can impact on skills,.

But at some point it is just: take the mark, win the ball that is right in front of you, stick the tackle that you are trying to make, hit that open target there by foot or by hand, kick the goal from a set shot, or kick the goal on the run.

So, you know, play like you can play.

Jeffrey and rosas were in the VFL at this time last year so they’re both playing better.

We've asked if Jeffrey could provide some forward pressure given his size.
Pretty sure he has answered that.
Most inside 50 tackles in the league.

Last year the leaders averaged 2 per game.
Jeffrey has had 9 in our first 2 games.
Got at least 1 shot on goal against Essendon because of his tackling.
He was iffy for me v Sydney but was probably our best fwd last week, I like what I'm seeing

Yeah me too. Kicked goals in his last 6 games.

Would have loved him to have finished with 2 or 3 last week. Missed a few I’d expect him to usually kick.

If we get a nice dry game this weekend I expect him to create some headaches for Geelong.

Is only getting around 70% TOG at the moment. Not sure if that’s fitness or just rotations.

I can't believe how old Cats are. 27 years 6 months, 131.9 games.

Hopefully, they are still some ways to go before hitting their best. In the first 2 rounds they uncharacteristically turned the ball over a lot.

Smith 34, Tuohy 33, Blicavs 32, Cameron 29 (11), Ceglar 32, Guthrie 30, Hawkins 34, Stewart 30, Dangerfield 32.

Sexton should be playing every game now Rankine's gone
You think opposition coaches don't worry about a guy who's averaged a goal a game over his career and kicks bags at times?
But you know....not part of the future something something blah blah blah
He's so far ahead of Oea at this stage of Ace's career
I have a shiny dollar that says Sexton's career will look like rolled gold compared to whatever Ace produces in his

They'll still out run us in the 4th

Let's see. In both rounds they struggled physically. They did look underdone especially in first round. I do expect them to play better. Midfield is the key. If we can't take advantage of Ceglar there we will not win.

If I see us missing easy shots again, ...

I believe our speed problem is more than a problem of leg speed; it's a problem with our speed of ball movement. We don't have the skills to keep the ball moving at the speed of the top teams (i.e., Collingwood). This skill deficiency is a deficiency we still possess after five years under Dew.

Well. After a few unexpected results this weekend, we find ourselves in a situation where we can be tied 8th with a win over the Cats tomorrow arvo and we may very well hold that tied position if the Swans and Dockers win as would be expected. Let's hope we can get the W tomorrow and ignite our season!
