Newcombe got ahead of himself with the AFL article written about him yesterday
He's from Poowong Davo I'd be surprised if he can read.

Being under pressure does that though, the problem is our game style hasn't been working for us, and we've not been able to adjust in any way.

Plus, they are slicker than us at this stage of the game and after a promising start we've come off the boil a bit.

When Sicily is giving hospital handballs, and we're looking this average, it's the heat in the game that is making it happen as much as it's the players not being capable.

It can turn around, even if it's not today, we'll be learning from this (as embarasrsing and painful as it likely is for the players).
Sicily hospital handball on the goal line - no excuse and that’s not pressure. You don’t handball to a player with 3 opposition around them in the defensive goal square. Maybe jars called for it and shouldn’t have
Ditto Omera hospital pass to ward (or Newcombe) in the first was embarrassing
Hardwicks misskick was a skill error so shit happens I guess

Seeing as Ratts has good Intel on us maybe we should give these guys a different look when we play them so they don't rock up knowing what there going to get because he's comprehensively outcoached Mitch here so its up to Mitch to start asking questions back and not just for this match but in future when we play Stkilda. There developing a streak on us.
Ha?

But I’m starting to think that Tom/JOM/Worpel isn’t ever going to work.

It has never worked. It's a bit of a head scratcher. Because multiple midfield coaches (and two senior coaches) don't have any answers.

It has been discussed at length in every single match day and autopsy thread. Each individual player has had the odd great game, but counterintuitively we have looked better when Mitchell was injured.

We also badly miss McEvoy (or an experienced backup) and lack a proper KPD.

Saints are just outplaying us today

JOM has soapy hands

Howe is roleplaying a crash test dummy

i think this might be a reality check, im not sure if we can challenge for finals this year unfortunately.
Harsh on Newk, he has sprayed a few kicks but far from our worst today and he is cracking in.

It might just be coincidence, but there's a fairly solid body of work suggesting that every time a glowing article about one of our players runs, they don't perform so well.

Scoreboard pressure, momentum going against you pressure, the desire to force something that isn't there - all these things create pressure.

We are going to get games like this several times this year. Just have to learn from it and move on. I’m sure Sam is fully aware of the areas of concern, starting with a midfield who dispose of the footy well below average.

Hoping for a lift in this 2nd half
1st half was painful viewing…

Need to pick some midfielders who are quality kicks of the footy as a priority in this years draft..

those Sicily and JOM hospital handpasses annoyed me as well, also when Ward won the hardball handballed to JOM in space and he fumbled it, just not our week when these little things happen and you have to give credit for the saints perceived pressure, but they are annoying to see.

Does anyone else wish we would try something different in the middle. Try CJ or impey a couple of times just to see how it goes. Couldn’t be worse than what the regulars do.

he just has kicked the ball to opponents too often this game, im used to Newcombe not turning it over so often.
You think a couple of turnovers has something to do with an AFL article though?

He's had the second most disposals of any Hawk, has twice as many metres gained than the next Hawk.

Shiels was a terrible leader today for box hill, even swore at Saunders telling him to "open your f'ing eyes" at one point. Very selfish, and don't think developing players need that
Well maybe he needed to open his f'ing eyes, we know what we've got with Shiels, dude was a vice captain. Calling him very selfish is funny.
