Gosh its a lovely day when you can sleep in on a Friday, and look forward to the rest of the footy weekend :D

I kept mentioning it on the game thread but man those break-ups of their handballing was just so.. aggressively satisfying to watch. We also had to ability to really nullify contested ground-balls. Either by getting a possession or pushing it forward to continue the contest. Moments like that Payne pick-up, Rayner with his second goal and that Ashcroft pickup that also led to a goal were really satisfying.

Generally the out the back goals always don't get me too revved up, but the way we countered the Pies desire to just push up and how we handled that with our talls. Letting Charles run back was a treat to watch and he sure did capitalize to the fullest effect.

McKenna.. has impressed me so much. With Starc down on his usual performance, McKenna has really shown some mongrel, not just in his aggressive run off half-back but all over. Wilmont too has truly taken over from Answerth in my mind.

For as long as stupid commentators froth over players like Dusty, and now Daicos.. I just won't really like then. The kid sure is talented but its overwhelming the love-fest over the simplist things he does. Oh well. He doesn't really deserve the 'backlash' over his 'shirking' that contest. Think it was more of a fumble. But whatever, its just the way of the world. Just makes me more impressed by how Ashcroft has come into the team and really makes his effort count.

As for McCluggage, I don't think we can really use his performance so far as a point to move him back to the wing permanently. He's just down on form. Those horribly misguided kicks aren't because hes playing midfield not in the wing..Lets see how he goes when we are actually gelling in the midfield and he has some of his form back.

ENJOY YOUR EASTER! what a great time to be alive :) until our next loss.

Hipwood crashing the pack with about 5:35 left in the second was a pivotal moment.

Show him that footage all week, that’s what we need him to do every time it comes into a pack situation.

Just finished reading the comments
It was a great night to be at the Gabba again watching the boys play more like a team than individuals.
A few Lions players sacrificed their game somewhat just to quell their opponents game performance.
This would have to come from the coaches' game plan for the night, but the players have to buy into the role as well.

I hoped Rayner would play forward, and in the pre-game warmup was very happy to see him with the forward group.

The Pies had 2 more scoring shots than us, but a lot were under pressure.
At best they may have missed 3 that were getable.

The Pies had a few good players unavailable, but we take the 4 points which is all that's required at this stage of the season.

Watching the game now and geez Rayner has been fantastic. Hopefully the backline experiment is over now. He's looked brilliant both in the air and on the ground - couldn't have asked for much more from him. Now he needs to back up this performance next week.

Hipwood and Daniher have responded emphatically so far after the bashing they got during the week. Hopefully this is the start of these two starting to really impose themselves on games consistently. Cameron at his brilliant best as well - the entire passage of play that led to the goal at the start of the 4th was brilliant. Ashcroft and Rayner combining for goals is something I won't get tired of seeing.

The way we've managed to respond after being put to the sword early has been excellent. 10 goals in a row is something I definitely didn't see coming - but the collingwood love fest in the commentary box so far isn't surprising at all.

I’ll be in Bali next week for the big game. I hope we can win with an international couch.

If the footy is actually a video game and that video game had a button that allowed you to attempt to break a tackle then I think Zac Bailey is pressing that button a little bit too much.

He gets pinged for holding the ball way to much, he just seems off, its not through lack of effort, maybe he is trying to hard......

With Rayner looking like he is back forward, I think it's even more important that we get Ah Chee, Dev or Prior into a defensive forward role. It seems that McCarthy has been asked to play more defensively and I'm not sure he is the right man for the job.

Hopefully we get Rayner into the middle for some short stints. I think he is superior as a centre clearance player than both Clugga and Bailey.

Also need to get Fort back in the team.

Unlikely to happen after a good win though.

Great win, against a quality opposition.

Daicos definition of a seagull
Rayner.....defence experiment is done.
Loved the competitiveness from Joey and Eric....the challenge for them and the club is to back that up, week after week after week.
Willmott just keeps improving every game...looks a beauty.
J Prior. had a impressive game, hopefully he can just maintain his spot for a sustained period cause he can play multiple roles, a really good kick, seems to find the goals frequently, never a huge ball getter but uses it well.

I would love to get Answerth back in best 22, BUT im not sure how, you think Rich slots right back in, maybe the only one under any doubt (in our defence at least ) is Joyce, but he has held up pretty well.

It is funny, only a couple of years ago our huge list need was quality mid sized defenders who could add run and rebound.....now that is the area of the ground we are most stacked.

Hughie ....Not the high standard we all know he can deliver, BUT his best performance of the year, and showed some promising glimpses,
The thing for me, we won convincingly with OUT Lachie Having 30 plus and dominating in the middle, and with so much improvement from guys like Bails and Hughie, and Ashcroft and Willmot continuing to develop and grow, things are looking up.

What's going on with McCluggage?
I don't know where one gets a lot of the game day stats from but according to Healy and Whately on SEN after the game, Hugh easily led the "metres covered" for the game.

If true ( and I have no reason to doubt it), it means he worked his butt off last night. Maybe that's why his disposal suffered....through sheer exhaustion.

Analysts of the game often refer to "unrewarded running" that those of us who are obsessed with impact on the stats sheet and/or on the scoreboard just don't see or appreciate.

Unless you can do an in depth analysis of the game with GPS data and all the camera angles, there is no doubt in my mind there are many parameters that the coaches assess over and beyond what we "see" while we are caught up with raw emotion during the course of the game.
