Autopsy Round 4 - 3 Things you Learnt vs Freo

1. My faith in Gary Rohan is and has always been justified.
2. Sam Reid when on his game is a gun.
3. Dockers window for a Flag is still open ... depth is the key.

The only thing I have really learnt this week is that it is impossibly for any top team to play at their best for a sustained 4qtr. Games flow in and out of dominance and it is the team that can mitigate the scoring when the flow changes that will be victorious

Yep every game just about

Just the poor sides leak massive goals when the other team takes control, or cant convert when its their time

1) People are far too quick to forget most of the first half due to some patches in the second.
This intrigues me, as I was working last night so haven't seen the match yet.

But I checked my phone at half-time and nearly had a heart attack.

Must have been quite some comeback for everyone to so quickly forget what a shocker the first half was.

Or, were we actually still quite competitive through the first half, but just not getting results on the scoreboard?

We could not hit a target and had no structure

Panic basically set in IMO

We had our chances though, i believe we had more of the ball

Ben Dixon on the telecast mentioned inside 50s at half time were even. Obviously our execution wasn't as good as Freo, but I thought our pressure acts weren't bad. Macpharlin was called a rapist earlier this thread, but he's a good, experienced defender with excellent closing speed. Freo always miss him him when he invariably pulls a calf/hamstring come finals time.

1. Why Longmire would ever allow a spare man in defence is beyond me. We have the best key forward in the game and another key forward who's a monster. Let them at it 1 on 1!!!!! They had Pavlich and Mayne, surely Franklin and Tippett are more dangerous 1 on 1 than those two! Against a team who don't have the most threatening tall forwards, we need to back our defence in!

2. Maybe give Sam Reid a break. Hes only 23, wait till hes 25/26 to start having a crack.

3. Not to much to worry about. First half was horrendous. If we play half as good as we did in that second half in the first, we probably win that game.

http://iview.abc.net.au/programs/offsiders/NC1528V012S00#playing Watch from 13m 25s. The boundary umpires completely unsighted and yet offers his opinion ???????????????????????????
Not sure why Whateley is even talking about the video review system, the error there was clearly the boundary umpire coming in and overruling the goal umpire when he was in a worse position. Nothing to do with the efficacy of the video review system, as it went back to the umpire's call.

Going to sound harsh but i think we need new leadership.

While macca has been solid, jack improved as the game went on but has not been great consistantky the past year or so.

I think it is time that buddy becomes skip. Plays hard week in week out and leads by example. Makes those around him walk taller.

I would have buddy as skip and parker and lloyd as vices. They can grow into the role and will learn some valuable skills going forward
Buddy's a great footballer in that he leads by example but he's not a leader per sae. I also like having a captain in the midfield so he can communicate with all players. Someone like Luke Parker would do well.

He is the only player that puts his hand up and plays extremely hard week in week out. Even when we are being beat he will up the ante aggression wise and show what is needed.

Words mean very little when you dont back them up

You don't burn your team mates who are running their guts out to give you a disposal option. That's not a team player.

To the Dan Hanneberry boosters, your unquestioning adoration of the kid isn't doing him any good. In a split second, a player has to decide, what's best for the team.

Joey Kennedy puts his head over the ball, week after week. How many come on here and list him in their best? Ultimate team player.

Cut short the contract, go back to Melbourne Dan H, and allow us to get a decent trade in exchange.

1. Tempo footy is required at times to retain possession against the better teams.
2. Fyfe is impossible to tackle. Luckily his disposal lets him down occasionally otherwise he would have destroyed us. We did well to keep him to under 30 disposals.
3. Parker still doesn't look right, but he came to life a bit in the second half. Hopefully this is the sign of a return to form.

You've expressed your view, time to give it a rest. Yes it was a bad error but calling for him to be traded over it is silly. He busted a gut for most of the game.

Someone mentioned leadership, and I feel our leaders have let us down several times. McVeigh to a lesser extent, but I feel Jack may be the wrong person for the job. He was amazing in the early days, around the 2010-2012 period, but has never been the same after his knee & rib injuries. I've been waiting for him to get back to the same heights but he hasn't been able to. Here's hoping, because at his best, he was extremely damaging, however, it seems like the younger speedier types have taken on his attacking role in the team. I'm not quite sure what his role is anymore

I agree.
If you can't play your role, if it's goog for Goodes then it's good for a Captain to go back & find form in the twos as far as I'm concerned. Too often in the big games it is the same players that have unacceptable periods that ultimately end up costing us the game.

1 . Far to 1 eyed Buddy , its starting to hurt us imo.

2. Tippett goes missing for big chunks of the game.

3. Harry is becoming soft and it will cost him his spot

Harry is soft

Tippett looks unsure of his role

1. The Essendon game wasn't a one-off. While there is a massive potential in the team, it is very concerning to have large portions of games where players just aren't switched on.
2. Horse is a better coach than people (including myself) give him credit for.
3. The Brownlow is Fyfe's to lose. What an absolute beast!
