People need to get over Ollie Wines its not 2014 anymore. All he does is make our midfield worse

Wines is a good player and he has decent form this year but he is not Rozee, Butters, Horne-Francis or Drew.
As you've said, he just makes our midfield worse.

We also didn't really miss Boak either but he does have a bit more impact but a bit negative as well but he's been pretty good and it is a bit of a worry that he has a back issue that didn't seem to come from a huge collision.

Also Dixon is a continued worry and manfully struggles on but looks done like a dog's dinner. McKay destroyed him.

The guys who could be dropped this week would be McEntee and Lachie Jones.

McEntee has continually done not a lot in the forward line and Rioli and Byrne-Jones are now obviously better than him and impact games a lot more than Jed.

Lachie Jones has plays where it looks like he doesn't want to get the ball just in case he makes a mistake. He is worth persisting with only if he can get some serious one on one coaching. I would replace him with Sinn and see how he goes.

It will be great to see Powell-Pepper back in the team.

I don't really need Wines or Boak back in the team.

So the AFL is 5 rounds in & the sanfl one round. What a bunch of morons, a massive disadvantage for our reserves. The sooner we get out of this dumb league the better.

Probably a bit tough on the sanfl, most of the afl teams have only played 4 games and gather round hobbled this local sanfl round.

Around 6-7 months since the SANFL Grandfinal , only one game played since. I don’t know how you fix that, but it’s bad for our first team, as we’d like to know who’s in form etc. Bad for the development of our young players too.

In last year's gather round the Maggies played against the Victorian under 18's in a curtain raiser to an AFL game at Mt Barker, which was arguably better than having them sitting around twiddling their thumbs for a couple of weeks.

I was told that two of our draftees, ie Charlson and Lorenz may have played in that game, not sure about Tommy A.

Going to the VFL (only 2 rounds in) doesn't solve it at all.

It has to be a full AFL reserves comp where fixtures mirror the A grade side. Every reserves game should be at a local ground the day after so the sub and 1-2 non-playing AFL emergencies can get a game as well.

If McEntee can't get until the double digit disposals in a smashing like that then he really has no hope. The only player on our team with less than 8 disposals was Boak.
He always has quiet games when we're playing well.

He tends to have better games when the rest of the team struggle. (not saying he has great games, but better)

He’s had 15 scoring shots in 4 games and is second in the league for contested marks. I’m really not getting the hate for him.

He now has a proper role to just stay deep and contest. We’ve all seen the counterfactual - if there’s no Dixon it will 10000% be McEntee or Rioli deep forward contesting one on one with the oppo’s main KPD, aka the Sam Gray special.
My only hate for him is that he can't bloody convert his opportunities. 15 scoring shots in 4 games for a return of 6 goals is not good enough. That doesn't include the ones that he didn't score.

Far too often in big games, and key moments, Charlie has let us down by missing an opportunity that he really should have taken. The latest was in the game against Melbourne. Absolute momentum killer, and watching his set shot technique just irks me to no end. He does everything you're taught not to do. Lean back, kick across the body etc.

Having said all that, it's obvious he's very important to our team and there's no way i'm dropping him. Just could be so much more.

Jones is not at the level, nor is Jase.
Combine the two and you'd have a heck of a player.

Jase has the touch and skills but is too chill at the contest.
Jones is manic and tough at the contest, but lacks composure with the ball.

Jones has put it together before, he's just going through a bad patch. Should still be dropped though. Where's McKenzie?

Boak out - replace him with a person who is designated to play on the wing probably Burgoyne.

SPP to replace McEntee for balance. If not McEntee, then Dixon rested.

Wines coming back will be interesting on who misses out. Can’t see wines on the wing. It may well be Mead, goes to sub.

The Dockers have a bit of a revamped midfield so it should be really good to see us go against a pretty hot midfield and see how we do.

We should get them around the ground and at home.

Should be a good game.

Mead has been decent. Would be harsh to drop him.

Does SPP come straight in after a prolonged break of no football and reduced pre-season? I can't see it. He may be the sub.
mead out improves our side, liability, too slow

spp a first choice player should be raring to go..hate to be playing on him this week.

they will throw something different at us, will try and make it a slog fest by stacking there defence and blocking the corridor

Will be a good opportunity to see if we spend the whole day bombing on our forwards heads, I can feel a 65 inside 50s game for 10 goals and plenty of supporter frustration

but if we can open them up we should win this by a decent margin.

So if the AFL (non) Integrity commission rubs Finlayson out, does Sweet come in?

Jackson’s stats as a lead ruck don’t look terrible, given he isn’t a lead ruck. Adding Darcy is a massive inclusion for Freo though.

Can’t see them rucking Dixon, so not sure who would be next if Finlayson is suspended. Marshall?

Mead has been doing a fine role, my problem with him is I just can't see him winning his position against most genuine midfielders who are all going to be one (or most likely a combination) of bigger, faster, more powerful, better overhead than Mead is. And he's not good enough at aspects like elite kicking/playmaking or getting first hands on the ball to make up for that.

So you're kind of resigning him to this supplemental midfield position with no purpose who can be exposed by a better player.

Don't think they'll have Burgoyne as sub for a third game in a row. So he'll either take Boak's starting wing role or go out.

With SPP back and MG working alongside the other 3 (taller) talls, McEntee might get a game as sub. Whatever he brings to the team that we don't see, he can probably do from the bench.
Burgoyne needs to play, he was the best of all subs this round. Dropping him after that would not help his confidence at all
