I thought Daicos was BOG in the second half by a mile last week when he went into the midfield and they'd want to continue with that.

My guess - Nick into the midfield, Markov replaces him. WHE replaced by the extra small forward and them all rotating through the roles he covers. Crisp into defence as Frampton out of defence to ruck and the defenders will all roll back a spot - so Crisp essentially slotting into Maynard's role.

It'll be interesting if we persist with Daicos in midfield. It may help us win some centre clearances and not lose so much territory, without a recognised ruck.

Has Frampton been training in the ruck this week? McStay was the named ruck.

According to Jen and one other report, it was Frampton vs Kreuger in match sim, with McStay playing forward..

Medium term Ryan is currently the player who has scope to replace Daicos at half back, but I can see why the club would give Markov first crack.

The other bit of the discussion was around Markovs ball use and defensive ability, compounded by our ruck situation where we will likely give up a lot of territory. There's merit in that argument.

My view is that we're replacing WHEs role in the side with the next best runner we have.

Think this is spot on. As long as Markov is pushing back hard and being an outlet on the wing or whatever else the coaches rate from WHE, I'm sure they'll be happy.

I think Ryan is a ripper, but more likely to come in as a genuine defender, rather than as one of the rebounding roles. In the scenario I'm guessing at of Crisp back, they could have brought him or Ruscoe in if they wanted to play Crisp in the midfield.

I think if Frampton rucks, Crisp will play back, as I don't see who else can play alongside Maynard as that first line of defence. Ruscoe as sub, because we need extra cover there if something goes wrong, as we won't have the usual option of switching whe there or Crisp, as he'll already be there..

As I said after, you can make whatever assessment you want if him as a player, that's fine. But people were close to assassinating his character as a person which was just flat out bizarre and insulting.
Oleg's another one with a bit of personality, kooky & fun. He brings lots of energy when I've seen him play & at training. Leadership, always instructing & talking & he's fast. I hope he proves all the negative nancie's wrong.

I hope you're right but there are just as many examples of the opposite. Markov is a hard runner but his ball use is poor, he isn't great defensively and he's a low possession player.
I think over the last 18 months we have done pretty well at squeezing the most out of players.

Longer-term I think Crisp should return to the backline with N Daicos moving up the ground.

Geez this place can go on a tangent.

Markov is getting a game because the coach loves him.

Right, the coaching panel have forgotten about the pressure on the side to bounce back after a loss, or feel no sense of duty to select a winning team against each opposition. Nope, they just pick blokes they like.

FMD.

One loss has derailed some

They're picking a bloke to play a role. If they want to play Daicos in a different area of the ground and they want to keep the same system of transition out of defence, Markov is far and away the best option. My money is on Nick the mid having commenced.
Why? You’re replacing the best user by foot out of defence we have with one of the worst. If you’re looking for the same transition out of defence, being someone who will take, and is able to hit the difficult options by foot that will open up the ground I’d argue Ruscoe is a far superior option.

Me too. And it’s because Ryan is unavailable.

Markov played 23 games in 5 seasons with Richmond, then 25 in 2 with Gold Coast. Yet some posters talk of him as though he is currently showing new traits. Let's not pretend there are any hidden areas of untapped talent. This talk of writing him off too early is nonsense. He has been in the public eye and scrutinised at 2 clubs over 8 years. The man is a known quantity. Known by us and the opposition. What you saw, and why he was delisted, is what you'll get.

What do the club think he has to offer a top 4 contender that someone else is not in a better position to give? Why weren't his previous 2 clubs happy to accept the bits of him that looked like they may assist the team's cause and take a risk at retaining with him those that didn't? To me, there is not a lot of faith being shown in the other contenders for his spot by selecting him. If looking for the weakest link if we lose, look no further.

I don't think you're going to find anything close to Nick from either. Ruscoe has good foot skills, but isn't a great runner and is significantly bigger. Markov is a more similar size and has heaps of leg speed, but isn't a great user.

To me, it seems like a reflection of the makeup of our opposition as much as anything. St Kilda's forward line is not very tall

I feel like these kinds of assumptions of perfectly rational decision-making is misguided. We have benefited plenty from players that failed at previous clubs

It's a strange one. Markov offers a very different skillset to someone like Ruscoe or Wilson or McInness or whoever else is in line for selection. How can you assume it's favouritism rather than wanting Markov's skillset to be added to the system?
