Nope, that’s not what I said
Which other younger ones? They (Ruscoe & Ryan) are the only two I can think of who play defence & maybe up for selection..Trey probably missed out because Oleg is so much faster. Ryan isn't ready & apparently injured. He didn't play in the match sim on Wednesday. And Fly is always talking about setting players up to succeed. He's a developmental coach & prefers to wait until players are ready and not throw them in the deep end & crush their confidence. Who else are you thinking? Those are two I had in mind.
So you are saying none of our younger players are runners and are fit right now?
We have less depth than I thought. I knew we had no big blokes capable of playing ruck of KPP, but I thought we made up for this deficiency with flankers in defence. Instead, the first time we need someone down back, we bring in a two time reject who looks like he'd be happier topping a penny farthing. I hope you are reading this, Oleg, because if anything should inspire you to produce the most polished game of your career, the doubting Thomas's in hear demanding to see the nail holes or it didn't happen should spur you into action.Who would be ready to take the next step in defence this week? Ruscoe? He may be the sub. Ryan? He's injured and not ready.
Agree - particularly as we need to match Saints running power.I think the thought process is trying to replace the outside running work that WHE gets through. It's probably reflective of poor outside depth if anything. The other guys who project for the role are inexperienced.
Murphy was touted as a first round draft pick. He still has his doubters. He is not totally out of the woods yet.We will assess Oleg by seasons end. All players deserve that.
The shite poor Murphy was copping and look at him now.
Lol..you're the biggest doubter of Oleg on hereWe have less depth than I thought. Oh my..you're doubting Murphy too?Murphy was touted as a first round draft pick. He still has his doubters. He is not totally out of the woods yet.
Did I say I was a doubter?Oh my..you're doubting Murphy too?
Hope he takes markov the day and everyone has oleg all over their faces.Lol..you're the biggest doubter of Oleg on here
'he is not totally out of the woods' doesn't sound like a ringing endorsement, no.Did I say I was a doubter?
Scodog didn't say "friendship" was the sole factor but it appears to be a large mitigating factor. Ruscoe has performed well and was BOG last week. Markov has not set the world on fire. So the coach may have picked Markov based on what he has seen him do in the past and hope he can replicate now rather than what he and Ruscoe are doing now.

Frampton was a 2 time reject as well.Markov played 23 games in 5 seasons with Richmond, then 25 in 2 with Gold Coast. Yet some posters talk of him as though he is currently showing new traits. Let's not pretend there are any hidden areas of untapped talent. This talk of writing him off too early is nonsense. He has been in the public eye and scrutinised at 2 clubs over 8 years. The man is a known quantity. Known by us and the opposition. What you saw, and why he was delisted, is what you'll get.
What do the club think he has to offer a top 4 contender that someone else is not in a better position to give? Why weren't his previous 2 clubs happy to accept the bits of him that looked like they may assist the team's cause and take a risk at retaining with him those that didn't? To me, there is not a lot of faith being shown in the other contenders for his spot by selecting him. If looking for the weakest link if we lose, look no further.
Agree. And I think he was emergency for at least one of the GF's and majority of their finals matches ..Markov played at Richmond when getting a game would have been its hardest for nearly 40 years.
He played 17 games for the suns in a season only 2 years ago. He’s had injuries.
Fly and Leppa have both spent lots of time with him. They would have good reasons for being confident in him. I hope they are proven right.
And look how much we're missing players who were 'rejects' at other clubs.. Lipinski, Cameron, for example.Frampton was a 2 time reject as well.
Your argument is spurious, all “rejects” are not failures.
There's no doubt that him being told he's a two time failing spud who shouldn't be playing is the best way to motivate him.We have less depth than I thought. I knew we had no big blokes capable of playing ruck of KPP, but I thought we made up for this deficiency with flankers in defence. Instead, the first time we need someone down back, we bring in a two time reject who looks like he'd be happier topping a penny farthing. Markov narrows the gap on speed and endurance against the Saints - that’s a big tick compared to Ruscoe.I would play someone other than Markov who hadn't gone through 2 clubs who found something decidedly wanting in him, and tried a fresh approach with a new player who could potentially release Nick to the midfield. We could do no worse than lose the game again and would at least give the opposition more to cogitate than is the case playing Markov.
Which player with the equivalent speed and and tank of Markov would you have preferred.I agree with this. I cannot fathom why we would be using this guy as anything other than depth. Right now there's a lot of blokes ready to take the next step at AFL level, and we are missing the bigger picture by putting games into a guy with a low ceiling. Really puzzling decision from my perspective.
You could make the same statement re: Frampton. The difference I guess would be that Frampton had shown a fair bit as a key defender in the SANFL after a role switch, whereas Markov is playing the same role to the same standard he always has, which is why I’ve been far less bullish on him than I was Frampton when we recruited him.He has played 7 years at top level. If he was a known team contributor and the two teams that let him go were wrong, we would know about it. Sorry, I am in the 'why play him?' camp.
That is very much my view. I accept the need to take a risk with Frampton. He fulfils a genuine need in a crucial part of the ground and is being coached to play that role with the added security of playing in a structure rather than be thrown to the wolves. Markov seems to be doing just more of what he has always done. You could make the same statement re: Frampton. Murphy was copping shite from virtually everyone. We were all convinced that his time at the club was over. To his credit he turned it around. I don't see the 2 cases is similar. We will assess Oleg by seasons end. All players deserve that.
The shite poor Murphy was copping and look at him now.
Lipinski was playing at a club with a midfield that was hard to break into and needed opportunity. Cameron as a developing ruckman was not given enough time by Sydney. Neither player had been delisted. And look how much we're missing players who were rejects at other clubs.. Lipinski, Cameron, for example.
Yep, so argue against this point instead of the one you made upFrom your post number 696.
