I'm not sure why the inclusion of Markov should require the move of Nick to a full time midfield role.

If we plan on using Frampton more in the ruck this week then Markov filling the hole created in defence would seem apt if we believe the match ups better suited the smaller Markov to the taller Ruscoe.

Conversely if we go with the same ruck setup as last week then with the omission of WHE and inclusion of the one paced Ginnivan (in place of McInnes) we are probably seeking to maintain a similar profile in terms of speed across our 22.

While Nick is good enough to make a role across any of our lines work, to this stage we have resisted the option of using him extensively through the midfield and I'd be surprised if we change that plan to any great degree this early in the season.

I thought Daicos was BOG in the second half by a mile last week when he went into the midfield and they'd want to continue with that.

My guess - Nick into the midfield, Markov replaces him. WHE replaced by the extra small forward and them all rotating through the roles he covers. Crisp into defence as Frampton out of defence to ruck and the defenders will all roll back a spot - so Crisp essentially slotting into Maynard's role.

I hope you’re right ( insofar as frampton doing the ruckwork not mcstay). However it’s highly unorthodox for a ruckman to be asked to “rest” in the backline, and I don’t think it’s the time to experiment with that. Suspect they are going with mcstay as per last week, and just swapping McInnes out for Ginnivan. Frampton staying in defence also puts a bit more clarity as to why Ruscoe didn’t come in for Markov. As with Ginni in the conditions, in Markov they’ve opted for a smaller more mobile option over a medium tall, given the opposition and the weather conditions.

At Wednesday's training the only players doing ruck work were Frampton, AJ, Oscar & Krueger.

Be very interesting how Fly and Nick handle the full on tag by Windhager tomorrow. Ross the Boss will go the Ryan Clarke style tag

Have we learnt how to handle that. A whole new level of tag from the Lochie Jones Port Adelaide effort

What sort of a name is Windhager?

Setting aside your opinion on the “deficiency” of my comment and dealing only in facts Markov’s manager spoke of their close relationship last week on the AFL websites Gettable show. They’re tight from Fly’s days at Richmond.

Familiarity doesn’t make him a coaches favorite in terms of selection though does it.

Can't see any logic or reason behind selecting Markov over Ruscoe. Ruscoe deserved the call up on the back of a best performance in the reserves, Markov hasn't done anything to warrant a senior gig since coming from being deemed not even part of our best 45 (or whatever the list number is now) to last minute filler.

I'm not putting a line through him or anything and hope he goes well, but it's a pretty average precedent we've set there. Same with Ginnivan, he was genuinely embarrassing to watch in the ressies last week; hopefully he repays the faith.

Come at me bootlickers

I think they’ve both got a bit of work to do to justify senior selection, but sometimes it’s as much as anything about being in the right spot at the right time.

He was magnificent in the midfield last week. There will be a time when he becomes a permanent mid and I think that time is now.

They're picking a bloke to play a role. If they want to play Daicos in a different area of the ground and they want to keep the same system of transition out of defence, Markov is far and away the best option. My money is on Nick the mid having commenced.

Couldn’t they do that simply by rotating N Daicos with Crisp?

I wasn't suggesting he'll rest in the backline. I think he'll play ruck and rest on the bench.

We'll find out tomorrow, but I'm guessing that Crisp and Markov will play defence and Frampton and Daicos will play in the midfield.
