We’re sh*te.

Like a drug rehabbing patient who you think finally has beaten their demons and then they go off on another 3 day bender.

We should be honest like Nick Kyrgios and admit winning a trophy isn’t really our goal, takes a bit too much effort and commitment.
It seems like it at times that they are just happy to be playing football but arn't really into busting a gut to get the top prize , its called culture , and for all the talk of the culture changes , i see non

Will do a proper write up when I have calmed down, but this hit the nail on the head for me.

When things started to go bad we really really really missed Hanners. We had 0 on-field leadership today.

When anyone asks why we gave Hanners a 5 year contract, play them the second half of that game
Really like the leadership he showed against Collingwood,
16 possessions for a $800k starting midfielder!!

Long seems to be gone. Maybe Marshal? Of the remaining I think Ross has to be dropped. A chance for Byrnes or Bytel. Webster in for Long. Paddy for Marshal if required. Our boys should have a bit of sting from this loss which should make them hungry for a win next week. Frustrating loss.

This could be the loss we needed to have if Ratts has the stones to drop that passenger Ross for a young mid like Byrnes or Bytel.

Richo never had the stones to drop Ross, Richo loved him as he was the sort of vanilla midfielder that Richo loved but I'd like to think Ratts is more ruthless.

Oh well, another nice 8 days soaking up the sun in Noosa.
Do we fly to Adelaide the day of the game or are we allowed to stay over the night before?
Not tipping us against Crows at home no matter how shizen they’ve been.

Few things:
Geary - I noted in the preview thread that I was unsure of what he would do, or where he would play this game. My concerns were vindicated. What is his actual role in the side? Is it a defensive forward or is it a back pocket? We don't know what to do with him but we are shoving him into the team and trying to invent a place for him. It's detrimental to our structure.
Hill - Well below expectations, not only this game but this year. He needs to be put on notice, although I'm aware that sadly the alternatives are no better.
Ross - I would seriously consider dropping him for Byrnes. I know he's our unofficial vice-captain, but he provides nothing. He is soft at the ball and does not have good disposal.
Gresham - Way too inconsistent. Drifts in and out of games like a fairweather fan. Another who needs a rocket.
Battle, Marsh and Membrey - Absolutely no impact on the game. I'm aware that they didn't have the ball much up their end, but they had a height advantage over their opponents and did not capitalise at all
Marshall - Talk about hero to zero. His main opponent goes out at half time and yet he still can't have any impact. Probably the worst game he's had for the club in the last two years.
Long - Buddy I love your aggression but you are not pairing it with smarts right now. You will be rubbed out for a few weeks and you won't be able to mount much of a defence.
Clark - No impact. I get that he can make time look slow around him, but sometimes time is quick and he gets trapped.
Paton - Poor poor game from him. Usually has good disposal, but today he was rushed and led to unnecessary turnovers

Lastly
Umpires - I can't blame them for the loss because we were insipid, but their reactive change to the holding the ball rules due to a coach whinging in a post-match press conference shows how much of a joke the officiating in this sport can be. Yes, we want the game to flow, but you also want to reward the player going for the ball. If we are now saying the prior opportunity is gone, then players will want to be second to the ball and simply go for the tackle, which is contrary to how the game should be played.
Jeepers you started well and then descended into utter nonsense. Clarke I thought was one of our best and membrey was as good as he could be. Altenertivly if wonder kid Max king had kicked at the same rate as membrey did we would;ve almost won the game. Also what game were you watching with Paton, also thought he was one of our better players. The game was lost in the midfield and on the wings. We stopped being able to win our one on ones and some of our defensive running was horrific, looking at Hill/Billings/Gresham/Steele/Jones/Ross. You could actually see once the game got close to the end we went back to taking the game on. Was nice to see Coff do some nice things to start some chains. In addition, I though Hunter was one of the few with some composure.

Lastly Brad Hill needs to harden up. No every week will it be free and flowing but when the time comes he needs to stick his head over it and lay a tackle. Lastly we had 7 players who did not lay a tackle including both are wingers.

Can’t see why Marshall would be rested. We have had plenty of rest between games. No way is he missing next week

I've never seen him that poor. But he has ability so I can forgive. Blokes like Ross and Kent have 1 good game every 5.
Kent looked good when we were winning.. absolute front runner. Should not be playing.
Kent always looks okay in wins because hes quick enough to get over the back cheapies as we are on top in the midfield.

Look at it this way, all his goals for this club, how many have been in the goal square, might aswell call him Jenkins.

As a neutral, I really enjoyed this game and I thought that it was one of the games of the year so far. Obviously not the result you guys would have wanted but the signs are looking really good for the Saints.

You guys are one of the very few teams playing open and quick footy so far this year, and it's great to watch in an otherwise depressing year. Us Swans fans are definitely missing Zac Jones, and the run he is providing you guys through the midfield is impressive. Also King is a gun and I cant wait to see him in a couple of years time when he puts on some size.

Interesting to see how you guys respond next week against the Crows. All the best!

What else do you do?
Give up for the year?
Analyse it and move on. Make big calls. Drop players. Get back on the train.
Analysed! can't move on!
Called everyone I know! Still can't get on!
Drop everyone!
And this f#ckin train only leads to nowhere! So I'm pissing out the doors and jumping off!

On a positive note..99% chance we see a debut next week. Long will get snubbed out which means Geary goes back and Byrnes gets a look in. Another option could be to drop kent, marsh and long out with a suspension. In webster, byrnes and sinclair. Geary to continue as a defensive forward on laird and webster takes longys position. Sinclair becomes our connector ala kent

We should've known better. We got ahead of ourselves. We bought into the media hype...and now look at us.
I'm disappointed in all of us as fans for actually believing that we would have a % boosting game against mediocre opposition.
Main rule for following St.Kilda: Never believe a game is in the bag before it's played.

We need to temper our expectations.

what’s good is we know at our best we are right in it. Unfortunately consistency and leadership have let us down. Ross has no excuses. Give Byrnes and bytel a run.
Stop giving Ross games because he was last years bnf, he is cooked. If Ratts cant swing the axe on him for next week then thats poor coaching.

Brad Hill has one last chance next week. Worst ranking player on ground but the highest paid. F@%k a doodle do
