I was fully on the Lyon train but a lot of gloss is washing off this season. I think his standards behind the scenes are better and his footy department looks first class but his game plan and list are still the same issues. We are a mid table list that good coaches can get into the 8 but that stops us drafting quality so stay in the cycle. Lyon has played more youth than Ratts for a similar performance level I guess.
Geezus mate you’re on/off like a tap seriously
Trade King
Off Lyon
Bottom 4 list
Shut the shop I guess??

We sack Ross we might as well fold, there is no one better and u don’t sack coaches when your list is average, ffs just let him work he knows what needs to be done
You’re happy to say that mid next year we’re 2-10 and you’ve got no idea who else is available right now it’s just stick fat regardless?

Proves my point

I can’t say he is going to win us a flag.

But I’ve been confident we will be closer then we were under Watters Richo or Ratten and I’ve argued that with you from the very start.

I said he would provide us with clarity of list ✅
Standards to develop said list ✅
Standards I agree with (although the jury is out on if he’s got the right personel)

Clarity of list though… nah. We’re far from clear on what we’re doing or where we’re going.

We not clear on kids kids and more kids and when that’s right use our cap space?
But you yourself have noted it’s not just kids. When the cattle return were pushing for finals. You said that.

That’s not just future.

That’s the whole point.

I’ve said it’s a balancing act and that they want to play finals.

Loading up a 22 with kids and losing games because they aren’t ready. Isn’t good development.

Hope that’s clear. I thought it was

Any other coach at any other team would be under some pressure in the circumstance Gringo said.

The fact Ross probably won’t be isn’t a good thing.
What utter garbage. We are building towards something.

Ross was brought in because a review indicated thst although Ratten was getting reasonable short term results here and there (ie we did win some games) , he wasn't seen as being able to create an elite culture or make the team a contender long term.

We turned to a coach we knew would turn that around. He laid out his plan. We bought it, despite the ridicule of sacking a coach weeks away from re-signing him and bringing in the one coach who left the club without getting sacked. We've removed all obstacles and replaced them with his choices.

We are invested long term. The club has prepared for this.

You'd best get used to it

My only hope is that game was an aberration.

Culmination of tough fixture, injuries and playing too many young players.

Giants after round 9 last year had 3 wins and a percentage of 85%
They’d lost to West Coast and lost to Collingwood by 65 points as well in those 9 games.

They came back and nearly made a GF

I’m not saying we will do that. Cos I think we’ll struggle to make finals from here. But with some cattle back, a proper mindset and basically not leaving Melbourne in the 2nd half of the year there’s a good chance we can get on a run.
Absolutely.

So it’s finals now, but also just kids and the future?

So what’s the benchmark for this year then? Games into kids or finals?

Surely you can see the point I’m making.

Absolutely zero relevance to the convo being had but go off king

PS: I doubt that they will drop Pou this week as the game is in his home town. Not really sure that is a valid reason to keep a player in though.

He should be but we just dont have anyone to replace him. The cupboard is bare we are treading water until the cavalry arrive. For me Phillipou has been poor all year, but there is no one else deserving of his position.

I genuinely don’t understand how you can’t comprehend any of this.

We want to make finals.

We simultaneously want to get games into the next generation and have a focus on developing them.

The latter makes the former more difficult to achieve. However they achieved it last season so believe they can again.

Realistically we can miss finals blood kids and get games into them. Go back for a season to launch further forward.

For the record I’m not suggesting we should fire Ross but gringo made the point. We miss finals this year and are bombing ass mid way through next year his job shouldn't be assured. You’re saying regardless of what happens give him his 4 years.

If the club's decided that the list is shit and that we need to focus on pumping games into youth to build a platform for the future, why would they sack the coach if that's what he's doing? It's not all about results this second.

Yes that’s perfectly clear…

Stav respectfully (and I mean that) you’re a true believer, Ross could do an interpretive dance on his four year plan and you’d swear you’d seen the face of god.

I respect it, truly, but finals and games into kids are juxtaposing and saying results won’t matter if we get kids games whilst also saying we should be making finals is absolute nonsense.

We’re just not gonna agree.

I do hope Ross is the man, truly, I just think the jury is absolutely still out.

What he delivered last year? A 6th place finish and a lost final?
Yeh I don’t consider that success, I consider that progress, progress that now seems lost.
I’d argue the fact you’re so sure of the plan and desire to adhere to it shows more blind faith than measured and considered thought.

One of those things seems a lot more considered than the other to me.
Anyway it’s a moot point, I don’t think he’s getting fired regardless.

I understand people are disappointed but sacking coaches really? Surely we have learnt something from our 150 year history of adminstrative debauchery.

Have they decided that? After we made finals?

Odd, doesn’t seem that’s what many think.

Jfc.

If we’re 2-10 mid way through next year he should be under pressure.

Mate I’m sceptical as you as to them being able to achieve finals and development back to back.

But we have seen a bloke who many on here including you yourself say he is past it. Doesn’t develop kids and yet he showed he is as current as anyone and fully believes in developing and playing these kids.

The knock he gets after a bad result is insane.

quite frankly after everything he has achieved. It’s just weird people don’t back him. But if we had appointed some newbie like Watters he would have fans like yourself right behind them

You watching tonight mate?

He’s getting in there more and more.
Full time forward comment was made before the game. He'd barely been to a centre bounce all year so the comment was clearly accurate. Good to see he's doing well tonight. Still looks like he is pushing up from half forward rather than being a starting midfielder.

Never said he was past it, questioned if he still had the drive and knowledge.

And don’t do that. Ive openly said he was the best candidate and I still think that’s true but you and others and backing him regardless of any circumstances through to mid next year because you see some plan that many others don’t. Because I’m open to the possibility that if we’re pure shit by mid next year we might need to be thinking about what’s next doesn’t suggest I’m waiting for him to get the boot.

Nothing would make me happier than him hoisting our next flag, it would be utterly romantic. I just haven’t seen enough to back him without question for the next 2 and 1/2 years.

Started last week and he’s in centre bounces tonight but sure.

The fact supporters still can’t see the plan and what the man is here to do and that he was GIVEN A 4 year deal says it’s the supporters who are the problem.

Not the club for letting the man work, knowing what they signed him to do and had immediate success 12 months ago
Supporters want a flag quickly.
