My favourite post by a Tigs fan this week..

"Dees haven't been playing great footy and they've only beaten bottom 8 sides. In fact all the teams they've played to date have won a total of 6 games combined in 5 rounds. Can't stand the hard on the media has for them. Run with Petracca and avoid May and Lever going inside 50 and were home.

We will win"

... I wonder if hes aware that Richmond are also a bottom 8 side

Not to mention that the bottom of the ladder consists of 10 now not 8.

The 'haven't beaten anyone' argument is always dumb but especially dumb in the first 8 weeks of the season before the ladder has even taken shape.

Yup last year 6 teams won at least 4 games by round 6. Only one that didn't make finals was Freo an their percentage was 106%

Unfortunately at 5-1 it's clear the saints are good and should be looking at top 4 now.

Love the 'haven't played anyone decent' logic, its 5 rounds into the season and we're undefeated, every team we've played has lost at least once, and there's only 7 other sides in the 8.

Smith has become ok, credit to him, but anyone who wants him in the best 22 intrigues me. He would be lost in a bad team, but our defence is able to cover the bad to benefit from his athleticism.

He's consistently beaten his man in the air. Don't care that he's not best 22 guy, he can come in for a bunch of guys and do a job. It ace that we have maybe 28 guys who can play in the team. :rainbow:

Haven't been playing great yet still getting the w's. Doesn't take into account the scenario if we do play our best.

If we can do what every other team has tried to do, but hasn't been able to do, whilst also keeping last year's Norm Smith medallist quiet...

Even if they do manage that we're far from a two trick pony.

Just read from our esteemed colleagues over at Tuggerland that our backline is "bung ordinary". You know, those spuds that were statistically the second best defensive team of the entire AFL era (goes back much further than that too).

What is it with this bunch? I was stoked when they won their first flag, but their supporter base has turned into a bunch of flogs. Even a few of my close Tiger mates, sending me messages this week truly believing we are frauds and will get found out this week. They truly still believe they will win the flag this year. None of them can let go and embrace mediocrity again. I hope we flog them..

The thing that amazes me is Melbourne are so similar to Richmond from a few years back that you’d think they’d know better.

I’m assuming they are going off Lever and Salem being injured to think the backline is ordinary.

I thought/hoped when Rance went down Richmond’s backline would collapse.

It didn’t and Grimes was able to step up and shine.

Houli and Astbury missed big chunks of games and their backline still held up.

And then in the 2020 GF Vlaustin got injured and was off early, and the backline held up fine.

Broad improved from terrible to competent over several years.

Why would they think if Richmond, playing a similar way in the backline 2017-2020, could manage through those injury and retirement scenarios, that Melbourne can’t (especially given Melbourne already has for several rounds this year)? Because Richmond, I guess.

Yeah I agree with McDonald based off the last 3 weeks I would have it as McDonald ahead of Weideman. However perhaps they want to see how the Weideman/Brown combo works, weid did look great a few weeks ago where McDonald hasn't really looked great at all, just that Weideman has been really down.

On the stand rule, I disagree with it it came in after 2018 Richmond still win premierships in 19 and 20. Stand rule isn't the cause of Richmond decline imo.
Stand came in 2021.

I know I was meant to write 'if it' came in after 2018 Richmond still go on to win 2019 and 2020.

Of course it's not. It's the most delusional crap ever. Tigers moved the ball forward at all costs the stand rule should help them. They're just way over the cliff.

Imagine how damaging Houli would be getting 10m run and 60m kicks every time

I don't think so either, our issue is the midfield. I was all over our forum post-2021 saying we had to draft a gun mid and try to trade in someone like Tom Mitchell too, or get a Dunstan and/or Brodie type for effectively free. We did neither. Whilst most midfields have at least one guy get 30+ touches a week, we have seen 30 touches this year ONCE I think, and only three times has one of our mids got over 25 (someone and then Prestia twice). It's insane how bad our midfield suddenly is, maddening. I'm very happy with Gibcus though, to be fair, and the option at that pick (Hobbs) looks just OK and certainly wouldn't have improved our current position anyway.

Anyway, best of luck, you are far and away the best side at the moment. Would love to have seen us play your current side with our 2017-19 version, would be a very good game.

It's a shame Dusty wasn't quite ready to play. He loves these big games. Would have loved to see him play live again. It's been a few years since I've seen him play live now. Hopefully he's back soon..
