She's having an amazing season. Surely in discussions for the MVP
Probably wins the players voted MVP, those work experience umpires don’t know what sport they’re looking at most of the time.

Won’t discount Ally Anderson getting it from Brisbane again because less take votes off her in Brisbane’s midfield & the umpires probably don’t see what the other Brisbane mids do or even know who they are, whereas the umpires give Hatchard votes off Marinoff even when Marinoff deserved them more. Emily Bates for the Hawks also going to be high chance to win it again, Hawks have played some weaker teams and no other Hawks mids catch the eye really.

Also the over-correction for all of Jas Garner’s votes she’s missed out on in her career you’d think has to come at some stage.

Irritating to give up two late goals when percentage matters so much, but it's hard to be too upset about a ten goal win. Just what the doctor ordered.

The forward line was actually somewhat functional at points this match, mostly due to weight of numbers. Having Gould, Ponter, Munyard, Randall, Charlton and Martin all actually playing in there meant we actually had some forward line pressure when we didn't mark the ball properly.

Marinoff just exceptional again. She's like having two good players. Jess Allan utterly dominant in the ruck, Goodwin really starting to become a good player. Kelly is in decent form again. Randall playing great football, Hatchard good in patches, Newman going well too.

Varnhagen surely can't survive that performance. She tries but she's just not up to it. That HTB against her when she fumbled an easy ball, sidestepped nobody and then just slowed down until she got tackled by an opponent in her direct eyeline, was simply baffling. And I'm convinced she still doesn't know how to drop the ball onto her boot.

For some reason, the Crows kept insisting on handballing forward to absolutely nobody. Just out to space, or often to opposition jumpers with no Crows players nearby. This wasn't just when under pressure in a contest, it was often when they had the ball in space and could easily kick it. I'm all for using handballs to carve through the middle, but surely you have to put it in the vicinity of a teammate. If you haven't got a teammate free that you can definitely hit, then surely you're better off just kicking it and getting the extra meterage? It was very frustrating.

Anyway, onto next week against Collingwood. We need to put on another massive win against them as well, to solidify ourselves in the top 4 prior to our match against North.

Sun seemed to be a factor later in the game, but yeah not the ONLY factor!

The umpiring wasn't quite as poor as last week, but still not great. Some of the HTB decisions still baffle me. Is there a new interpretation where players are only given 1-2 seconds to disposes of the ball? There were plenty of times where a player was tackled, clearly had their hands free to dispose of the ball, took a second to look for a teammate and then cleanly disposed of it... nope, too late. Holding the ball!

The HTB against Newman was just unforgivably bad. I also had to laugh at the HTB against Gould where the player just collided into the side of her, didn't tackle her, the ball knocked free, and it got paid. Meanwhile there were several times when a player had the ball, had prior opportunity, was stripped of the ball in a clean tackle, play on. It feels like such a raffle.

My favourite terrible umpiring moment of the day though was when Newman dropped the mark, the whistle got blown, and then the umpire just awarded the mark anyway. I would have been furious if it was the other way around. Surely the standard outcome in that situation is to ball it up? Especially when it's paid inside 50! I think we might even have gotten a goal out of it.

I only watched the last 1 1/2 quarters (When such terrible umpiring affects results, in a league where 1 result matters, I struggle to get back into it when you get screwed over which is what happened vs Melbourne)

But that "holding the ball" free against Gould in the 3rd was ridiculous. You have to tackle to get pinged. Not bumped!!! And even in under 9s, (well, when I played), you had to bump them twice to get pinged holding the ball!

I will defend the umpiring in the mens game as they're actually quite consistent and I feel it's more ignorance from the fans not keeping up with the rule changes and being annoyed that what was paid in 2014 isn't paid in 2024. But these state league umpires they bring up for aflw being asked to officiate differently to they normally do is leading to deplorable umpiring.

I'm sure that when they get promoted to the main list they'll be better as they'll understand the AFLs interpretations better, but this is pathetic in the AFLw.

It doesn’t matter today but after what happened against Brisbane the Crows defenders should really learn to punch it through when balls are kicked high to the goal square especially late in games
Kinda happened twice - Tonon got pushed under the ball and it went over the back for a goal in Q2 as well.

Coaches votes are out, which now have Marinoff sitting 9 votes clear on top of the overall ladder. She's averaged 8.9 votes per game so far this year, pretty incredible. She has 71 votes out of a maximum possible 80. Another perfect 10 this week. Also good to see Goodwin in the votes! I've really been impressed at her improvement this year.

10 Marinoff
6 Kelly
4 Gould
3 Jess Allan
3 Ponter
3 Goldsworthy
1 Goodwin

That breaks down uniquely except for how to distribute the 3-vote players.

5 Marinoff
4 Kelly
3 Allan/Ponter/Goldsworthy
2 Ponter/Goldsworthy/Allan
1 Goodwin

5 Marinoff
4 Gould
3 Goldsworthy/Allan/Ponter
2 Kelly
1 Ponter/Goldsworthy/Allan

Interesting that one coach gave Gould second-best while the other didn't list her at all.
