See above. That's what makes the decision a little tricky. Fielding Parker/Larkey is going to end in tears.

Might actually play around with a particular mid or defender instead. Guess I had my heart a little set on Telly...

Ah buggar. But nah, that makes sense then. If you have your heart set on Telly, just bring in Corbett and run the gauntlet. He's bound to do better than Burgess, and he's their first choice anyway, so should get better with time

Yeah seems the only option. Even shuffling to defence I can't afford the blokes I would want (Laird, Stewart .etc.) so will go this route. Thanks lad

Really not a lot of great rookie options available then. Answerth the best of a bad bunch?

Agreed - there isn’t much out there.

We have Suckling, Duyrea, Williams and Lynch out, as well as Dale Morris.

Most Dogs fans would rather any of them in, compared to Young. This isn’t a fair comparison in a lot of respects, as he’s a kid just starting out. But he is just going ok, not performing at a really high level.

So, short term JS in my view...

Who has better JS, Answerth or Keilty?

Any other cheap defender have better JS?
If Keilty performs well he’ll have good JS, we’re a sh*t show at the moment so may aswell give him a go. Has been a solid contributor at VFL level all season. Has certainly earned his place. Having said that I wouldn’t expect Weid will be playing VFL footy for long.

Have to trade Whitfield + Scrimshaw to two defenders to avoid a donut. Best defender combo for $1,193,000? Already have Witherden, Daniel and Williams. I think I've narrowed it down to these three options but open to others.

1. Brandon Ellis ($605,000) + Jeremy Howe ($536,000) + $52,000 remaining.
2. Rory Laird ($696,000) + Cam Guthrie ($485,000) + $12,000 remaining.
3. Jake Lloyd ($812,000) + Noah Answerth ($198,000) + $183,000 remaining.

Think I'm leaning towards option 1 as Ellis is back on the wing where he has averaged over 100 before. Think he could match/get close to Laird while Howe has proven to be an 85-90 average defender when fit. Don't have any confidence in Guthrie's scoring (he's had a couple of seasons in the 80s but that was back in 15/16) and I feel he's one bad game away from being dropped. Answerth's 75 last week I think was an outlier and he'll actually average about 50 which puts pressure on Lloyd to maintain a 120 average to break-even with the other combos.

Has anyone got any smokey cheaper defenders for me? Ideally I'd like a Laird/Stewart/Sicily type + a 500kish defender that could go at 80+ for the next month until they can be upgraded.

Can risk giving him a week to see how he goes I guess and still get Answerth this week.

Is Alex Keath worth a shout?

Laird and Answorth, Bank the cash for next week.

He’s coming into my side this week, love watching him play, and he’s genuinely a good user for the ball. I think his poor on field decisions that lead to suspensions has been cut out of him aswell. Much more level headed now.

I've gone for Stewart but was surprised to see that Sicily's ownership is actually higher (10.7 vs 9%).

Might still go for Sicily but thought he'd be more of a POD.

This looks much better. Flick Rozee to the backline pushing out scrimshaw. Put atkins forward to trade in rockliff (or macrae/treloar/neale).

Allows me to field drew also.
Not sure how it affects your team with dpp or if you have enough in the bank, I would trade constable to rocky instead of whitfield as whit will most likely be back next week and means you will have an extra premium than if you traded constable.

Would think Sicily would have started the season at 8% and not many would have brought him in.

Wouldn't be surprised if Stewart started around 1% and a lot of people that know what they are doing have seen the kick outs and jumped on board.

I would have a guess that Sicily would in fact be more of a POD if you consider the top 20% of dream team players. (or the active dream team players)

Is Alex Keath worth a shout?

88, 94, 72, 103 in his last four with a BE of 37. Exactly the type of guy I'm looking for. Could afford to get Laird + Keath, hmmm.

Probably the sensible option but I'm ranked inside the top 600 and feel like I need to keep the points rolling to have any shot at overall. Not sure I can risk a 30-40 score from Answerth on field.

Surely as a cats supporter it’d be good cheering even more when the ball is in Stewart’s hands ;) I think most people are like myself and can’t believe his rise, he honestly doesn’t look like stopping either.

Oh no doubt, but there's a clear bias again Sicily which could be exploited if he out performs Stewart the rest of the season.

Stats wise, the two of them are incredibly similar so far.

Tom Williamson will play for Carlton. Coming back after his health issues but has played pretty well in the VFL the last 2. I rate him super highly, think if he plays well he cements his place without a problem. $260k is a lot to pay though. But could be worth it.

I'll have a quick look but thinking behind trading out Whitfield is because it might take him time to get back to his best and also his BE is 173 now.

Don't have any confidence in Guthrie's scoring (he's had a couple of seasons in the 80s but that was back in 15/16) and I feel he's one bad game away from being dropped.

Pretty sure I've seen Chris Scott say this year that Guthrie is best 22 (can't find a reference online but maybe he mentioned it in a press conference), but I think you're right to be a bit suspicious of his continuing scoring potential. That said, I think there's potential value in him as a two-or-three week stepping stone. I don't think I'd do it, but he's not a shocking option IMO.

Don't have Petrol and unfortunately if I trade Drew, it means fielding either Parker or Larkey which is probably worse than picking up someone like Corbett.

I guess go Corbett. But I do think hindsight will show not alot of difference between Parker/Drew and Larkey this week.

You could almost throw caution to the wind and field Larkey for this week as he should get alot of supply versing an undermanned carlton defense?

Then get him back off the ground next week somehow by upgrading Parker.
