At the game one thing you realise that you don’t see watching tv is closing speed and pressure. I know answerth and sharpe aren’t silky and make mistakes - but their attach and closing speed and pace is something that was really impressive last night and helped us out so much. For me answerth must stay in I think he adds a hardness and intensity to the contest that is really important
It's how we beat the Pies - knock them off as they stream forward and get them out the back. Pressure and numbers at the ball. Desperadoes required.

Except Pit gave away 3 free kicks to Oscar, who had 16 disposals, 14 of which were contested. Rucking is more than just hit outs. 10 clearances is huge. Oscar helped us win front half territory all night long. No sure what game you were watching?
:thumbsu:Hit outs are the most useless stat in the game, mean almost nothing, so many rucks "win" a hit out and the ball goes do the advantage of the opposition or into a neutral position, hit outs to a clear advantage are the only ones worth keeping a track of.

..haha, I'm now the same. Mr MM was able to keep me under control, tell me they can't hear you MM settle down etc...but now there's nothing to stop me

unfortunately, so I'm finding myself totally out of control, yelling at the tv when we stuff up, yelling when we do something magical or singing Country Road at the top of my voice...oh dear, it's a worry for me and the neighbours:)

...so yep, we know how he feels;)

Let it rip mcmum. I reckon you've earned the right to tell and scream and sing as much as you want.

Reading the Carlton board while watching the VFL side.

Vossy - Not liked at all, old game plan, no spirit in the team, young players not being developed.

The team - not good enough, wont play finals, a few millionaires and then the bulk just not up to it.

Oh how we at the Lions remember what it was like for years with those match reviews, starting each season with hope and all is lost before the midway break. So glad Fagan came and set us on this path.

I love hearing from our Victorian supporters who attend games. Especially when we win because there has been some average performances over the years. Also some amazing wins.
The crowd shots from behind the goals always makes me smile. All ages, many different jumpers, scarves and beanies but united in their passion for the Lions.
A truck load of Lions supporters on level 3 behind the goals as well. Awesome night.

Crikey.

The thought police are everywhere these days. Just looking to have a spew on anyone who isn't a conceited squarehead .

They find it impossible to just let anything go.
The haemoglobin of small minds

But the mods are doing something that I wouldn't do so I dips my lid to them

Outstanding win. Was a pleasure to watch the Carlton fans streaming out of the ground late in the 3rd qtr.

Was a great team performance. So many good players and role players - Dunkley was obviously exceptional. Best game he has played for our club. He was tough in the clinches but won lots of ball as well. It meant that Neale having a rare quiet night didn't effect our performance.

Andrews and Payne did a fantastic job down back. Helped by a midfield that forced Carlton to rush kicks into forward 50. But, Harris and Payne have had great seasons so far. Both reading the ball well and backing themselves. Special mention to Starecvich who won a couple critical 50/50 contests early in the game that set the standard for our night.

Froggy Lester - not sure how it looked on the tv but at the ground he was brilliant. Took some strong intercept marks but also crashed a few packs and took out the Carlton players with him. Really strong game and so underrated. Definitely best 22 on that performance.

Good to the see the brothers back to their best - McCluggage and Berry. Zac Bailey also can be put in same boat. He crumbled so well tonight. Was at the right place at the right time. Oscar rucked well and had some nice taps to our mids.

Charlie exciting as ever. Wilmot won a 50/50 ball and then delivered it lace out to one of our forwards - was a brilliant passage of play and shows how much talent he posses.

Only lowlights for me on an excellent evening was Rayner didn't get much of it - McCarthy looked sore and I really hope the poor lady who fell from the second level to the first level before the match is not seriously injured.
It's a much better at the Southern Stand MCG as the seats give a bang when you stand up quickly. I always listen for it. We kick the sealer and bang, bang, bang. The oppositions supporters are catching the early train.

I think we should start a thread, Should we be worrying about our last quarters?

I'm unsure if I can start one on this site. I used to on the Fitzroy site.
I was actually starting to feel a tiny bit of anxiety because we seemed to have gone right into our shells and not that I rate Carlton but when any team gets a run of goals at that point in the match sometimes you never know.

Then they showed vision of Fages in the box and I thought no ,relax,I'm doing fine.

I wouldn’t be at this stage. It seems to be a conscious thing to take the foot off the gas in the last if we’re well up. As long as we win it’s not an issue, especially if it’s from a conditioning point of view.

Other than the Melbourne game post-blackout however, it’s never really felt like we’ve lost control like we used to. Last night for example sure we let them back in in the 4th as we eased off, but we’d keep the pressure on when needed and kick one back to keep them at arms length. This is in contrast to previous years where when a team got on a roll we’d flounder and look lost.

I know percentage is important, but if you win enough games it really isn’t that important at all. While we’re getting the wins I wouldn’t be too concerned, things will just keep ticking over.

Payne's big size and stature has reminded me of someone for a while but last night I realised who .. Mal Micheal

..Just has that imposing solid presence about him, brick wall effect, like Mal did.

Neither Adams or Gardiner do.....Adams is solid but different.
He's got a way to go before he reminds me of Mal but he is an absolute unit. The last couple of weeks have finally got me away from thinking 'what might have been' with a backline spine of Harris and Justin Clarke.

Cam's big issue is his decision making. Which was exposed when he was tried down back. He's got all the tools but zigs when he should zag on too many occasions. He is a match winner .. so forward of centre is his zone. Battling with Linc - who was really flat last night. Not sure where he is at right now.
I think Linc played sore last night - he took some big hits against Freo and I was not surprised he was down...if Rich and Zorko wern't out he probably should have been managed.

Missed so many games early in his career.
Probably just wants to play every game he can, while he can.

I was in that bay, right at the back. 3 votes to the young lass in the row in front of me for her (very) raucous rendition of the club song, both verses, both before and after the match 👊
