Those of us suggesting this see the alternative as worse
Far better options then this, Weddle, Gunston and Ramsden forward

Why play Reeves who cant mark and runs like Gumby? Meek has been in our best 3 the last 3-4 weeks and playing Reeves will severely hamstring him

I think we see meek mostly forward with a mix of at least one of ramsden Gunston Dear in the f50.

If Weddle is moved from d50 (and doggies have 3 tall targets to mark too) I’d suggest on a wing to utiles his long kicking at marvel

I like ramsden, but he’s not commanding opponents defence respect

You want us to go in with no tall forwards whatsoever?!
I’d have Meek start up forward and possibly Sicily. Weddle and Scrimshaw being other options.
Ramsden and Gunston really did nothing up there on the weekend (7 possessions between the two of them).
If Gunston had kicked those 2 very gettable goals I’d keep him in, but his kicking has been terrible this year.

Hey let's throw a 19 year old kid who has played 5 VFL games into the seniors!!

Bigfooty thread: F'N AYE!!!!

Hey maybe instead we should put two mature rucks in the side to provide targets and let the small forwards do their thing.

Bigfooty thread: BOOOOOOOOO
Big issue here is that despite being 7' tall Reeves is hardly a target

Meek and Reeves aren't Hale

They cannot hold down a forward line and Meek is the better ruck as of right now. This is the exact reason we went out and recruited Chol, they cant do it

We better off going a mobile forward line then having someone tall/slow lumbering ruck who cant compete

He's at least a big body. I am loving Dear's development but I worry about what being monstered by a senior side's defence might do to it. If he continues dominating against grown men in the VFL this year then I don't mind the idea of him debuting later in the season if his form demands.

It’s not ideal, no

Unless we stop kicking to packs in F50?

I have long thought at marvel, if we have a posession anywhere just outside f50, have a speculative shot at the sticks not a speculative kick to pack which we now seem guaranteed to lose

A ruck skill is bringing ball to ground. Can be a from a kick as well as a bounce

Of course Reeves may be in concussion protocol

Time to get some spark and hope into the forward line.

I watched Dear play on the weekend, and while young, he is not built like a teenager.

He was incredibly exciting on Sunday and I think he plays. 6 shots on goal in a half against a strong Sydney defence is good craic.

If Watson, Breust and Wingard are fit, they all play as well.
Not breust. He's like gunston. Has lost pace, struggles to chase etc, and doesnt provide leadership. He will get selected though

Wongard whilst slowing down, does provide leadership, so I would like to see him in

Unless we are going for the same approach we have tried for the last 7 years, bang it long and hope

What makes you think we would change that strategy just for this weekend?

In - Reeves, D’Ambrossio, Phillips, JOS, Bruest
Out - Chol, Morrison, Serong, Gunston, MacDonald

Weddle to play forward.

Reeves took 2 marks on the weekend at Boxhill, no way does he become a forward target at AFL level.

Let Reeves ruck, he has done well against English previously. Meek to the forward line, I know it’s not ideal but at least it gives us a tall down there and he has improved significantly compared to last year. Honestly and I might be in the minority here, but I would say Meek’s last three games have been better than Chol’s last three.

If Sam can overlook the previous games where Reeves has shown:

Very slow 'running'

An inability to take a mark (ave 1 per game)

An inability to kick goals (average 0.0)

An inability to keep the ball locked in due to the fact he isn't an especially good runner, and isn't well known for his tackling ability

Then:

Lock him in.

The game has gone past his one skill, which was to tap the ball a few metres in one direction, so anyone suggesting that Reeves is going to be the panacea to our forward woes should, respectfully, think again.

Meek is in form, so don't muddy the waters with playing 2 rucks again.

Gunston will have to lift.

Ramsden will have to lift.

Dear must take no prisoners on debut and try his heart out.

Weddle must show us our belief in him is not misguided by playing a great game

Ginnivan, Watson Moore and Breust (whoever is selected) must run all day, and tackle like beasts.

That's how we win this game - Hawthorn players playing with pride, for each other, and for the club and fans.

Not by playing Ned Reeves.

The dogs aren't much cop.

We can absolutely win this game - as long as everyone gives 100% from the first minute to the last.

I'd actually encourage all Hawks members to get along to this match - this could be a win for the ages.

If Reeves plays, he will not be judged on how many times he marks the ball, but rather how many times Liam Jones marks the ball.

Mabior Chol at training today had his left forearm heavily bandaged. Looks like we have the reason the club didn't challenge the suspension. Not worth wasting the money to appeal if he wasn't going to play.

Would be good for Ramsden to get a full game in his preferred spot.

One of weddle or Sicily to go forward. Not sure it’s worth keeping Gunston.

Dunno if we swap Phillips for serong. Massimo might come instead. With west and weightman out outside their 3 talls rest of forward line looks average - but our defenders often get sucked in to flying at once.

Expect Watson is straight back and possibly Breust as well if fit. Might mean McDonald gets pushed out.

But really it’s all moot if we can’t break even through the middle and around the contest. If their forward line gets quick ball they’ll kick goals.

Dogs should be bouncing back after a loss. We were happy with the effort after a 70+ point loss. Hard to predict the effort levels of both teams really.

Morrison deserves to keep his spot imho. Was one of our cooler heads last weekend.

I think Macdonald goes out and MAssimo comes in, no brainer.

I think with Chol out they should keep Gunston and Ramsden (full game effectively replacing Chol's role) as the talls and give JOS a run in replacing Chol. If Watson fit give him a run at Box Hill on restricted minutes if necessary. JOS has been pretty consistent at Box Hill and I reckon he needs to be looked at and Marvel will suit him.

Give Serong another run, he needs 4-5 games to get him comfortable at the level at least.

So only two outs for me, Chol replaced by JOS and MacDonald replaced by Massimo
