so funny hearing the pessimists in this forum thinking pies could win easily play the safe game. Let me remind everyone- regardless of form, injury list or whatever reason, the word "Easily win" has rarely been associated with interstate teams playing Eagles at their Home ground. So relax and stop acting safe and superstitious. Regardless of the final outcome tomorrow,Eagles are a favourite in this game .
I actually dislike this part of our game which is this so called underdog humble BS sports culture we have in Australia. If you are a favorite, just say it, nothing wrong if you get beaten it means your analysis was wrong. Its called ownership, a term we use everywhere and rarely apply.
I think coaches take the safe option just in case to avoid media backlash. If you know what you are doing, and you are comfortable with your list and know the opposition, there is nothing wrong to say that your team is better than opposition.
On many occasions, I have seen something like this : round 22- team A ( 18-2 record) playing Team B ( 1-19 record bottom of the ladder). Team A coach pre game press conference: " It is gonna be a very tough game for us today, they are playing great footy and we are not going to take it lightly". It is a joke when I hear that sort of stuff. Just say, we have more talent and if we show up we should win easily. #TallPoppySyndromeNation

It's called not poking the bear.

And it also saves you from having to clean up your own mess if you end up with egg on your face.

Whether a team is favourite going in has nothing to do with the outcome of the game. In this era it is a game of centimeters and 1 percent can be a huge difference.

If you are much better, poking the bear or not should not impact the final outcome matter, that actually means you are actually scared of the opposition, what does that say about your view?? you like to win if the opponent doesn't show up?? . Ownership applies to both success and failure. A great example is someone like Connor in UFC, he talks so much smack, he takes the risk and when it doesn't work out, he still owns it. The fact that you mentioned " having to clean up your own mess with egg on you face" is exactly my issue, that mindset is counterproductive. Playing safe is also not the same as humility. They are two different things. You wonder why Connor is so popular.Even when he comes out a fight as a loser he still has fans. It's called ownership.

At what point this season have we seen any proof that we are ‘much better’ than the Pies? I’m all for confidence but it has to be based on something.

The thing that comes to mind is Ronda Rousey and her antics at weigh ins and the shit she used to talk about her opponents.

Pretty sure when she decided not to touch gloves, Holly holm would have thought "I'm gonna get you bitch", and so it was, a roundhouse kick to the head that ended Ronda's night, and arguably her career.

No thank you.

You have so much jinx energy.

This.

We are on the up, but any objective observer would be able to say the Pies have played some really good football at stages this year, and getting a win is not beyond them at all.

Old mate above is just trying to flex their alpha bona fides.

But we all know the truth about guys who drive big cars, right?

Arrogance reeks of insecurity and overcompensating.

Don't need to exude small dik energy of Nima in order to know my footy club is good.

I will answer your question with another question first before providing additional info. At what point this season did you just do you tip Collingwood a favorite in perth against Eagles?? at most it is an even battle which I totally understand, but to suggest it is collingwood's game to lose is ridiculous. The only time I would say we are massive underdogs in our home ground is if we have a dissipated list and poor form and tracking something like 2-15 win/ loss record against a top 2 team in form.

We might not be much better than pies but the notion that they are favourites in or Home turf is just outright laughable. I am sorry but this is not arrogant to suggest the following:
Not a single team in this competition this season should ever be tagged outright Fav versus us in perth. They might beat us which is fine but pre game favoritism is a joke.

It's 2020 and you believe in Jinx?? how old are you??

At no stage in my post I suggested we win easily or pies can't win. Of course they can win. favouritism is another discussion all together. I am 100%backing Eagles every home again against any opposition is what I am saying.

Alpha?? Arrogance?? in security?? what are you on about?? Do you always respond like this when you feel like you are losing an argument??It is pretty simple you have three options:

Don't comment at all
Agree
or disagree with my comment and provide your opinion. name calling champ?? and you know what they say about those who call others insecure??

Where was there a disagreement about who was favourite in tomorrow's match?

Of course West Coast are favourites. Playing on their home ground, having discovered some decent form over the last 3 weeks. In your original post you ranted about what you called "BS sports culture of today".

There is nothing wrong with having respect for your opponent regardless of who is favourite on paper.

Being favourite doesn't mean $hit. Out on the field is where the game is played, and anything other than what happens on the field is superfluous.

I know what you mean, but there's also a thing called sportsmanship or humility...besides seems better to always come in low key and whoop it up later! You don't set yourself up.

Did Port get rolled by Saints? (they're not invincible)
Most media tipsters have an Eagles win on their home deck!
Win this and the boys are back in town -"the sleeping giants have awoken" etc etc :D
Arrogance and chardonnay will overflow in the most delightful way.
The future is ours to lose?
Lose this game and will it be a 'huge loss' -depends by how much and the fight we put up.
Can still get ourselves in a good position from the next 3 games.
But with this game and the next 3 games at home, it's a perfect way to set up the season and be entrenched in the top 4.
Much riding on this really...if the season sees out it's course?

Since the re-start of the season WC haven't looked totally in control in any game as opposed to the Pies that definitely have, we've had enough good patches to get us over the line against some lowly ranked teams and we're definitely improving but still far from convincing IMO.
