This week the VFL side heads out to Trevor Barker Oval to face Sandringham who are currently 12th on the ladder, as we look to bounce back from our 2nd defeat of the season last week.
With the injury crisis at AFL level worsening last week, the VFL side will feature possibly 5, but more likely at most 4 AFL listed players depending on who traveled up to Brisbane with the AFL side as emergencies. With 4 AFL listed getting called up to the senior side and VFL captain Lachie Street doing his ACL last week and the VFL side have been well and truly decimated as far as talent goes.
However just like the AFL side there are now opportunities for some VFL listed youngsters to make their debuts at the level with Josh Pollocks Luke Haddara & Sam Frangalas all making their debuts this week. While Archie May, Harrison White, Matthew Clarkson & Harry Broderick all get recalled to the side.
Pollocks, 21, is a hybrid defender who is a smart reader of the play, has a great contested mark and is effective by foot. Hailing from the Dandenong Stingrays, Frangalas, 19, is a big-bodied mid-forward who has impressed with his power, speed and aggression, while Haddara, 20, is a rebounding half-back who is a great user by foot. After impressing as a train-on in Richmond’s VFL program in 2023, he was awarded his playing contract in March 2023.
