I remember a few years ago tuning in to games expecting very little but glimpses of the young kids and a >10 goal loss. Mitch always played like it was a finals game and gave me something to be proud of. It has been an absolute pleasure watching Mitch wear the Lions jumper with the same pride with which we the supporters have for the colours.

The success of the club is in large part because of the culture guys like him have instilled in the club. Mitch should be proud because we're proud of him!

Congrats on the 200 Robbo!

We say every game is critical but this one really is . We need to win tonight ,happy to throw in whoever from the list on Wednesday and rest Lachie, McClug,Oscar ,Robbo, Lyons McInerny and 3 or 4 others. Some won't like it but it's our only possible strategy to win 2 of the next 3. Lose tonight and it becomes even more critical that they get rested.

When you get served up garbage you have to deal with it.

Btw I doubt we'll do it . Always seem to have to placate the AFL these days.

Torched the Dees clearance-wise last week (35-22) - hopefully we can continue that. Matched Essendon last year in that sense though they killed us in the contest. This year we're better than the Bombers in both areas - while they're not direct match-winning indicators (see Richmond), it will push us in the right direction. Accuracy in front of goal is a primary concern against the better sides, and there's no exception tonight. Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe Essendon have been very good in that area so far this season.

People are forgetting one thing. We can't play prime time games. We will lose this game tonight by virtue of it being a big primetime game.

Quite a touching tribute to Mitch for his 200th, including his 100th for the Lions:

I teared up.

So during a course I was doing we were shown a piece of research into fatigue in ultra distance runners (or Olympic athletes - anyway, elite endurance athletes used to performing past comfort zone). The athletes went to exhaustion and their muscles were biopsed and tested for glycogen. The results showed they still had fuel reserves, training was adapted to include more focus on mental preparation and mental execution. There was a positive improvement in the athletes performance.

Applying this to our game tonight - the most important players tonight are the ones who can lift the other players and get them to push past their initial exhaustion. The five newbies will help, but there couldn't be a better game to celebrate Mitch's energy level and ability to enthuse his teammates. They will respond, and we will win a game that willhave some heart stopping reversals of momentum.

Lions by 9.

Congratulations Mitch. Love the way you have managed you reinvention, you deserve all the accolades you are getting.

I don't see this being a "get an early margin and coast" type game but even if we get a good lead we have shown we are pretty ordinary at maintaining it. Certainly agree we need this win but any margin will be a great outcome. Best result will be a win and some signs that Skinner and Ballenden have the ability to step up when we need them. Maybe even show a bit more than that.

Not into coasting tonight,agree.

Must win game. Bury them.

We're much better than they are and the ins may help us because a few guys were looking a bit tired last week.

I know it's a footy match in a strange season but if we play well we win.
I think the tiredness concern is more with your midfielders and rucks and the players going out were a ruckman, backs and forwards. Berry, McCluggage and Robbo have all looked at bit weary and the Big O will be seriously tested by Bellchambers and Draper.

Each team is coming off the same days rest. Essendon have travelled back from Adelaide. Both teams have made five changes.

On paper we are clearly superior. Don't get the negativity.

Any team can beat any other on the day sure, but if we lose tonight it will be between the ears not anything to do with fatigue, and baring the 3rd quarter against the Cats we've been pretty consistent in terms of our effort & results (Round one never happened).

I haven't travelled down the M1 during peak hour for a few years, anyone know what the traffic will be like if we leave Brisbane around 6.15pm?

If you genuinely think the time of day makes a difference then you truly got no idea.

Big games happen no matter the time slot and over the last season and a half this group has stepped up immensely. We've beaten Port and GWS who were flag fancies at the start of the year. Last year we beat West Coast coming off a premiership win and have numerous big games against sides we hadn't beaten for years including a lot of away wins which shows the improvement in the side.

The first function I went to was after we got belted by North down here a few years back and it was Mitch's first year at the club IIRC and he was the first one up on the mic apologising to everyone there.

When Lachie was getting bullied by Port last year and came to the bench, Robbo wanted to knock Sutcliffe out then and there. He stood up and said have a crack at me instead. A true team man.

The boys walk taller knowing that Robbo is by their side, we need him just like we need others in the team. A true Lion.

Grats on 200 Robbo, kill em'.
