Preview Round 9: The Sydney Swans vs. The St Kilda Saints

If we want to be in the top 4 by the end of round 24 these are the types of games that we cannot drop. St Kilda is in pretty good form but we need to beat them.

As for ins and outs it is very hard to tell given the quality of opposition we just played and the fact that the reserves have not had their match yet.
Reserves played the curtain raiser. See the reserves thread for details

Re: Round 9 The Sydney Swans vs. The St Kilda Saints

I've heard Cunningham maybe?

But seriously, LRT to FB, Richards CHB, and Johnson third tall, Seaby and Pyke in the ruck, Walsh, Reid and TDL up forward, Grundy in the Ressies.

Couldn't imagine what you'd think of Dunkley if he was still playing. He couldn't hit the side of a barn but was an out and out champion fb...just ask the duck! Grundy plays a very similar game and I am assuming that he receives a great deal of respect from the opposing players and coaching staff...unlike the bullshit you produce!

Lol I'm loving how everyone arguing against me just goes straight to attacking me.

Re: Round 9 The Sydney Swans vs. The St Kilda Saints

All season, I've really wanted to see Morton come in. Even if he plays as the sub, he'll be damaging. I honestly believe that the value of mid-sized forwards is very underrated. If Jesse gets the exact same stats as TDL (9 disposals, 5 marks, 4 tackles and 2 goals) then everyone thinks Jesse is a bloody hero. Whereas, TDL goes unrecognised a lot of the time.

Really would like to see LRT drift down back for Grundy and Morton come into the forward line for some spark. Grundy is actually a very poor user of the ball. His kicks rarely go to a Swans pair of hands. Can't see this happening though and a no change seems likely. On a side note, Pyke proved me very wrong today... I thought he did quite well.

Grundy is not in the team for his ball use. He is in the team to stop the oppositions major forwards. He generally does this very well.

He will not be dropped for his ball use whilst he is still completing as a defender (and he is doing a fine job in this regard).

He won't (and shouldn't) be dropped.

It was a joke, he called me Troll_Machine in another thread.

Re: Round 9 The Sydney Swans vs. The St Kilda Saints

I'd like to see Morton come in as well, but can't see who will go out to accommodate him. Moving lrt down back at the expense of grundy will leave us a ruck short, so don't know how that will work. One of the major problems with our team is that our second ruck options don't have much of an impact up forward, so essentially we're dropping a forward.

I assume there will be no changes.

I'm happy tdl's in the side. He does some great things, hrs an intelligent footballer, has great hands, a very accurate kick, and he's added that much talked about defensive aspect to his game. Loving it

Morton can't come in until he does what the coaches tell him to do and by benefit of that, makes it into the bests list.

The coaches are sending a message that despite him kicking bags every week, unless he starts doing what they want, he doesn't have a spot in our 22.

No changes.

Re: Round 9 The Sydney Swans vs. The St Kilda Saints

I'd go with no change as well. Interested to see who the sub will be. I liked having the extra tall and TDL in the starting side. I can't see Bird getting it two weeks in a row.

Re: Round 9 The Sydney Swans vs. The St Kilda Saints

If they were smart they would rotate it through the midfielders to ensure each one is fresh. Bird this week, maybe Parker next week and Jude the one after.

As much as I don't really want Morton in the team, he was harshly marked On his game yesterday. A much better game than his ten against Sydney Uni

Bird has a more natural match up this week in Hayes.

The week before he may have been feeling a big season impact so a light game this week could have been very handy for him.

I think we need to look at Mattner subbibng more often as he gets older. Let him play maximum impact rather than trying to conserve the energy.

Copied over from gameday thread.

7 goals for Cox (5) and NicNat (2) today.

Depending on who's fit next week, the Saints do look short.

No McEvoy, possibly no Stanley (hammy today), maybe no Fisher.

Kosi & Blake in the ruck, leaves Riewoldt up front.
Down back Dempster (191), Gilbert (194), Simpkin (191), but arguably none real comfortable one out on a genuine tall. IMO the 3 are more Mattner than Ted.

Wilkes also went back but yes you're right they are lacking height. They will likely try to engineer a loose man to stem the flow

Hah, I left Wilkes out of the list specifically so I could make a disparaging comment about him and then forgot. :D

Not much cop up forward and totally at sea down back.
Could be more deprecating, but even with their lack of height I doubt he'll be in their team next week and I agree more likely to use Goddard/Gram for example as that loosey to generate run.

I like this idea. We have the depth to cover midfielders now. Call it job-sharing.
