Because he was invisible last week. If you take away his 3 goals and the disposals he used to get them, he only had 2 disposals.

#Invisible

So he had 5 disposals and kicked 3 goals. The best small forwards best games, see them only get a handful of disposals and kick 3 to 4 goals. So on those terms, he was still good for us, and will be sorely missed tonight....

He sure will.

I dunno, are we trying to make finals?

sidebottom, Howe, Pendlebury, Madgen - they’re not the future either.

Put it to you this way… older blokes that perform are worth persevering with for the most part

Now please don’t give me any nonsense about cox performing at AFL level… because he doesn’t

Therefore persevere with Begg cause he is the future

It’s not 🚀 science.

I'd like to see if Cox would perform as the ruck. I bet he would. He hasn't been given that opportunity.

He hasn’t been given that opportunity because Grundy.

Cox is just depth now and will only come in if Cameron is injured or if the coaching staff decide at some point that Begg needs a run in the seconds. I guess there’s an outside chance Cox comes in as an extra tall and they try Begg in key position but I doubt that will happen any time soon.

I don’t think he’s a terrible ruck either… and if we were a legitimate top 6 team then I’d say sure, prioritise the older player

But I’m predicting 9th is as good as our ladder position gets given injuries and that we still have two games to come vs Melbourne, two games against an improved Carlton and games against Freo and Sydney

Playing the old blokes for too long for a sniff at finals will just see us end up with a severely imbalanced list like NM got to

Get as many games as possible into Henry, McInness, Poulter, Begg, Macrae etc

And we’ll be better for it late next year when we ought to give finals more of a crack

A pies supporter on reddit claiming to be in the know says gastro has been going through your club the past couple weeks, hit a few of your players mid last week and seems to have hit the young star this week.

Good luck tomorrow night, win and you'll end the dogs season and keep yours alive.
It's not just Pie players though. I've noticed that over the past few weeks there's been numerous players from different clubs out due to illness. Seems unusual.

I think Cox is a better ruck than Begg so I would have picked him when Grundy went out. Still it's been fun watching Begg having a red hot crack at it.

It might be simplistic but I reckon you've gotta try to win and play your best team. For me Cox is our next best ruck by a fair margin so i'd have played him.

We are already picking the kids to a large degree with Poulter now getting a shot at it. There has to be a balance though, as you say there are tough games coming up in the middle block and hardened bodies are just as important as rawboned rookies.

There’s no doubt about that. Maybe Begg gets an extra week due to the Dogs key outs.
Would be a real opportunity to take advantage of that and play Cox in the centre bounces and then forward.
I think Begg would make a great full back replacement for Roughead.
He is super competitive and athletic.
Send him back to the VFL to learn the position.

There was a theory that we would be harder hit by viruses in the aftermath of covid. Immunity wanes over time and the viruses that usually circulate in the community didn't spread due to covid restrictions - so they're now hitting a community with less immunity than usual and are thus more likely to spread and make people sick.

That theory might be playing out.

When was it reported that English/Martin were out? Wed?
Begg was always playing either way, the moment he stepped out on the training track at 8:45 on Wed morning

I think Cox playing first ruck with Cameron playing forward is our best line up for right now.
But everything you said made a lot of sense & I can see that logic for sure.
