Tredders reportedly said this on MMM during the match call so it's not like a big secret.

Is it like the plantar fascia injury a few of our players have had (Logan, Chaplin and Thomas come to mind)?

Wow Bernie, those game day powers of observation are amazing.

The club is probably right, it would explain his lack of outside run, I wonder how he did it?

Boak will sign and will be a killer next year with Gray :)

I was told that Tredders said Boak is getting pain killing injections in his foot pre-match and at half time. Anyone else heard this?

It would explain the odd horror kick.

Not at all surprised if true. Looked like he was playing jabbed up as far back as during the Essendon game.

Be nice if we had the cash to send him to Germany, or even Kangaroo Island.

I'm sure I heard of another player recently with a partial tearing of a plantar fascia being told the quickest way to fix it was by completely tearing it and it was only a 4-6 week injury once that happened?

And that advice was given because it will not heal by itself if it's being played on.

It was Josh Kennedy, and it sounds like he did tear it fully which made it easier to play on.

It is understood Kennedy received a cortisone injection and snapped the tissue when he went for a subsequent run within the past fortnight.
The result has been an improved training capacity for the forward, who is believed to now be pain-free.
It is a similar outcome to an injury to St Kilda legend Robert Harvey, who repeatedly jumped from his kitchen table and on to a troublesome foot in a deliberate attempt to rupture his painful plantar fascia and speed up his recovery.

Why on earth would you make him play through that. Will not heal! Rest him against GC.

As I recall from previous Plantar Fascia injuries it's not a matter of normal healing. It is often better for them to tear right through to heal properly. So while it hurts to play with the injury it's not causing any long term damage and may aid in finally tearing the tendon. St Kilda legend Robert Harvey famously jumped off his kitchen table to tear his.

Before the Collingwood game last year we had Troy Chaplin, Tom Logan and Jay Schulz diagnosed with the injury. (Beat me to the explanation RonSon so I had to add something different ;)).

I must say if it is a partial tear I'm not sure why the medicos wouldn't bite the bullet and take the lay off rather than have Boak carry an injury and play at 70%?

Renowned sports physician Dr Peter Larkins said that, based on the timing and reported improvement in Kennedy's training, the Eagles' crucial goalkicker was every chance to take on the Western Bulldogs.
"I think (his chances of playing Round 1) are very good," Larkins said.
"If you're saying to me he was doing some sprints and running around and he's not limping and not favouring it, then I would have thought two weeks after the incident they would probably consider playing him.
"The worse case scenario is, if he's nearly right but not right, they might put a bit of local anaesthetic in it where the sore spot is just to numb it."
"I know AFL players who have had the operation (to cut the tissue) and been playing in week three.

Cannot question Boak/Hartlett/Gray and the effort they put in.

Not surprised to find out those two are carrying injury. Only way to explain their form.

No excuse for holding onto the ball so long tho... get rid of it trav. Hopefully he can have a good one this week (Or tears a ligament and come back better than ever in 4 weeks).

All Boak needs is some genuine support and he'll be right back to where he should be. Broady looks like stepping up and Brad Ebert will come under more scrutiny from taggers as well so the pressure on Boaky might just relax a little.

Priority pick
dont risk a player
dont damage his own credibility either

Controversial Capel has his say.

Boak signature key to Port revival

TRAVIS Boak needs to put pen to paper on a new deal at Port Adelaide - quickly.

Two months after boldly committing to the Power in an exclusive pre-season interview with The Advertiser, the hard-running midfielder remains unsigned, leading to unwanted speculation about his future.

While equally-talented young team-mates Hamish Hartlett and Robbie Gray have re-signed on the dotted line, Boak's future is suddenly up for debate again.

Matty Primus defended his game against the Roos citing his work off the ball.

"Travis didn't have a great possession day but I'm really proud of what he did for us off the ball, which won't get noticed," Primus said.

"Travis would have done 15 to 20 things that we asked him to do during the game, stoppages stuff, his positioning around the ground.

"He kept trying to work to find the ball and he did some really good team things for us.

"Some days you have those games when it's not working for you but you can still do something for the team and Travis was able to do that."

Then Capel goes on with what I think is an extraordinary assertion that Boak might leave because he doesn't want the responsibility of leading the midfield. Too hard apparently. Wonder what Boak thinks of that?

The worry for Port is that Boak could tire of being Port's No. 1 midfield man.

He is getting great support from new recruit, former West Coast on-baller Brad Ebert, but is still being asked to carry too much of the midfield load.

At a club like Geelong or Essendon - who both appear finals bound and have strong on-ball brigades - the pressure on Boak would be largely released because he would no longer have the opposition's best tagger hanging off him each week.

As a possible future captain - as noted by Capel - surely he would relish the responsibility.

Boak just needs to step up full stop....

No excuse no leniency. ... In terms of the respect he commands I fail to see what he has done to be rated so highly bar one good season...

I just want him to make me believe ...but my faith is really waining

In terms of gold passes his is only second to cassisi....

Of he leaves so be it we should be happy to get a first rounder if he stays great but just show me what everyone else keeps saying you are

He is averaging the second most disposals at our club.

Whilst we should be dissapointed by his lack of development over the past 2 years, he is still one of our better midfielders. We would be a much worse side without him in

You are making a fool of yourself with your vendetta against Boak. He is tagged week in, week out yet is still averaging second for disposals behind Kane Seagull Cornes, he is still contributing every week and carrying the no.1 mid burden allows lesser lites such as Broadbent, Ebert, McCarthy etc. to flourish without the pressure of such close attention- and all this with plantar fascia! Yet you want to DROP him?

L O L

You are worse than Rucci with your anti-Boak campaign, and less transparent!

He's been one of the best in a very very bad bunch of midfielders. Besides Brad, which midfielders have performed better? and who would you bring in for boak?
