Hey guys I have been on here a few times normally to support your right to wear whatever you seem fit.
Is it gonna be played in heavy rain? Both clubs with a few injuries and a couple of do we take the chance on these guys.
I see this as a crucial game towards both teams top 4 prospects.

Anyway I doubt its gonna be a game for silky skills, hopefully no umpiring controversies and Williamson is not umpiring #22.
Good luck for the rest of the season.
Forecast at the moment is rain Thursday clearing throughout the day. And should be OK. But us playing at blockbuster home game has been a better indicator of rain than the best native American rain dance in the past.

Carlton are currently +29 in frees for the season, Port are +4.

Carlton have a better free kick differential for away games at +17, but are only +7 for interstate games and have only lost the free kick count once this year (against the Suns last round).

I actually thought Voss’s comments last week very measured, until I looked at the stats. Given the rule change, plus Voss’s comments, I can see the locals getting really frustrated this week.

Zero prior opportunity rule will mean more Hinkleyball in terms of bomb it long and blind. Probably works in wet weather.

Last week was truly bizarre.

We were awarded:

Just 2 free kicks for the first 56 minutes of the game

… and then suddenly 9 free kicks in the last 20 minutes

So the last 24 mins worked out that we were awarded 10x rate of free kicks vs. first 56 minutes

If I was cynical, I’d think that somehow the umpires realised at 3/4 time that we only had 3 free kicks paid and tried to even it up.

So new HTB rule this week, what could go wrong?

The AFL mustn't like how the ladder is shaping up at the moment so another tinkering of rules to allow more desired results to flow through.

Of course, when the review of games comes through and the fans/media have questioned the umpiring of games, the now standard reply will be - ' side x had a few frees missed but overall we're happy with the newer interpretations"!

We'll get murdered by the umpies (as usual). Our guys will get milliseconds to dispose of the ball where as Cripps, Walsh and co will seem to be playing a completely different game.

Seen this film before, it always has a bad ending.

I’ll join your cynic group…. It sometimes seems like Port gets a lot junk time frees, when the game has been decided. But the Carlton v GC umpiring did have a sense of “catch-up” to it, bizarre is probably the best word to describe it.

It would have been nice to not to have been the Guinea Pig for the interpretation change, however, if it results in a better and fairer interpretation of HTB, then bring it on.

On a side point, not that I think the free kick stats overly matter, anyone who thinks Port gets a good ride at home haven’t really looked at the stats. Port have only really broken even at AO since the Covid season.

If your even more cynical you’d start thinking how influential a run of free kicks are and where they are awarded.

Eg a free given in defensive 50 allowing the opposition to set up their zone isn’t as influential as a free forward of centre or a 50m penalty.

Both Ken and to a lesser extent Boak, went pretty hard at the AFL for being a shambles. (Rightfully so, but would have preferred he did it the week before we played the Roos or something)

I expect we're going to get the reaming of all time tomorrow night.
