Rumour: Cousins names collingwood as his choice!

Breaking news this morning on SEN ,stated that Ben Cousins will nominate for the December psd draft,and his prefered club of choice is Collingwood.

Now its up to the club to negoatiate with cousins to organise that we pick him up in the draft.There is still alot that has to be completed,like medical checkups,administarive issues rtegarding contracts etc,but he wants to come to collingwood and now its up to the club to do what it can to get him.

Also heard another strong rumour that Scott Burns is ready to retire soon.
If this is true i reckon the pies will get Cousins.

The age this morning stated that Sydney are desperately interested in chasing Daniel Kerr or Didak if either are on the trade table/.
Gee imagine trading didak to sydney .wWhat could they offer us ,their first round pick plus jude Bolton ?
We then offer our first round pick,pick 11 and Sydney's first round pick ,pick 12 and we offer these two picks for daniel kerr.

So hypothetically we lose Didak ,but gain,Bolton ,kerr,and Cousins !

Now before we all get too excited can you provide any more details?

Was it a caller providing the scoop or was it a Sports Central newsbreak? Or Ricky Nixon?

All of the above are not the most accurate of sources and we all know how reliable SEN is but if it came from Ricky or Sports Central it might be close to 50% accurate!

Im confused....wasnt Cousins sacked by West Coast? So isnt he a free agent? Why do we have to organise a "trade".

we wont accept 11 and 12 for kerr. Good picks but just too high up the ladder, better to trade didak to port/essendon for their pick and mabye a player for yourselves than on trade your first + 4-5 to us for kerr.

I'm pretty sure he has to go in the national draft first, then if he's not picked he can go in the PSD as he is an uncontracted player.

He comes back in under the same circumstances(kind of) as Dew last year, Nick stevens was still contracted when the ND was on but not when the PSD was on.

I could be wrong, but this is what i've been told.

I think it has something to do with the PSD only being for registered AFL players and Cousins is not registered at the moment. I think first of all that the AFL must clear him to play and then he may be allowed to enter the PSD directly.

Either way I'm not really convinced of anything yet as the source is SEN which doesn't exactly have a good track record with this type of breaking news.

We? Who is we? lol You overseeing the trade? lol West Coast will fold again at the trade table like they did with Judd.

Judd is a better player than Kerr how can the Eagles expect to get a better deal for Kerr when Judd is worth more?

What type of player, from our list of young players, would West Coast being looking for, positionally?

Who at Collingwood fits the bill and did not get too much senior game time this season despite looking ready for a tilt?

Yeh not convinced at the news yet.

I have and am a huge fan of getting Cousin's to the club. I do think if we get him his spot in the starting line up should be at the expense of O'Bree (either VFL or retire) or if Burns retires. I don't think we should go in with a midfield that includes cousins, O'Bree and Cousins for most of next year as that will only delay the development of the next gen. We can't just keep band aiding over our midfield problems with flankers or by recruiting an older player guys like J-Mac, Thomas, Shaz, Stanley and Cook need to be given oppertunities to develop and proove they can play that role.

Yer it was Craig Hutchinson, who "broke" the news.

He said that:

Ben Cousins choice is Collingwood, and this was more to his knowledge rather than official word, however Collingwood havent yet spoken or negotiated within the club about the prospect of recruiting him.

And that within the last week, Ben Cousins had recieved in writting from the AFL explaining he can go straight to the Pre Season Draft, where he will able to dictate terms of his contract/ Put a price on his head, which will make it more probable for him to play for a nominated club.

He also stated that St Kilda are a club who have already discussed at club level and have made known that they want him.

Also forgot to mention that the reason that he can go straight to the Pre Season Draft is to do with the fact that either he has been de registered, or the fact that he has already been on a team list, i didnt quite get that bit clearly, but he did say the afl had changed their stance and will allow him to skip national draft.

OK - now that we know it has come from a credible news hound like Hutchy we can confidently predict it could be 33% accurate. At least the news came from a reporter and not a caller.

I find it very hard to believe that Collingwood have not spoken within the club about the prospect of recruiting him. Actually I would find it very disappointing.

As it stands, I reckon we would be in the box seat in the PSD as we are ahead of the Saints. Richmond looms as a danger though.
