On the Greg Lynn committal proceedings Crown Prosecutor Mr Dickie said 'It is clear hopefully from the document, and if it's not clear from the document it's clear hopefully from the charges put before the court, that it is alleged of course that the accused acted with murderous intent when he allegedly killed the two victims.'

Will reread on button man, cant mind if he black or white as i keep thinking a bushman being a nomad cowboy ex vet and not traditional.

We've suspected the Button Man angle was to get interest because it's super creepy, not sure if the bloke had anything to do with it.

Here's a screenshot of an aerial from 60 Mins. It might help with perspective.

This isn't a direct overhead so I recognise a slightly skewed presentation but it struck me before how much stuff there is in the space. Only one clear way out on foot and on the run which is back towards the dirt road. It looks real tight and trappy.

Spot on. Some of the stories were completely made up, like the photographer with photo's of himself sleeping. It's an old u.s camp fire story.
Been told he is completely harmless, just likes to put the wind up the odd deer hunter.
Forget about Button man..

Ahhh i see i see, i am definitely taken with this, people walking from cars up a mountain like a clive barker book lol. but then theres bushmen and trackers workers who talk know how easy it is to be lost etc and the land and i take there point way before any paper or 60 mins. How close all others missing are but then theres simple reason.

As suspected. I was waiting for him to mine gold

I did the 680km Australian Alps walking track earlier in the year, and I'm not going to lie the entire thing put the wind up me along the way. That high country area is as spooky AF after dark, or in the mist. They happened to be doing aerial searches at the time again whilst I was up there, which added to the mood . I spoke to a couple of people in the know on my travels about the button man, apparently harmless, on the spectrum , police were using him for info.

Hoping they finish this soon so I can camp free of fear again haha. Meant to be doing a 200km walk up there next week. This will be heavily on my mind again unless they make an arrest before. I'm pretty certain they know who it is going by some info that was easily obtained online...
They're waiting for this person to crack , or spill the beans on the phone or something, and the info on the car released was to try and fast track it. May not be correct , but it's a pretty strong theory

Wow, how any kms do you walk a day?

Me and 2 mates did the Great Ocean rd walk earlier in the year, we did 70 km in 5 days with 20kg packs and that was enough!!

Done a lot of camping and sure, some areas are very different in cover of darkness.

20-40kms a day depending on terrain. The Vic section to Hotham is utterly brutal , I've still got scars from getting bashed by the overgrowth !
Key is, get your pack weight right down., I carried 8kg, plus food. 20kg is a bit much haha

This was parts of a John Silvester report i couldnt quote.

They left on March 19, with Mr Hill contacting his wife over high-frequency radio a day later. He has not been seen since.
It was confirmed her and not ham friends ?

Mr Hill is an experienced bushman who worked as a logger near the place he disappeared.
Didnt know this.

Hill family statement:

We are deeply saddened that Russell and Carol have been missing for one month now. Russell is our brother, husband, dad and pa and Carol has been a friend of the family for a long time. The police, SES and volunteers have searched extensively, and we thank them wholeheartedly. It is devastating for our family that we don't know what has happened to them both. We are pleading for anyone who has any information to please come forward.
Remembered it being a strange setup, mentioned as a friend, perhaps kindly, overly. After knowing they are where they are via the ham call ? Why send or go there to off them so no. Though i can discount that as there first initial statement being of shock etc or simply nothing at all and i overthink and it is perhaps even a writers slant.

Highlighted as its from previous pages and i cant quote quotes derr.

They left on 19th, last call was the 20th, a night was spent ? I will be missing something here. Wonder at distances to other bushliver resides, roughly. Search didnt last long either assuming it was on off and official and unofficial tracking checking etc

Damn son! That's some ultra light packing too, are you organising supply drops along the way? I have a friend that has done portions of it, not for the unprepared!

When I'm in marathon fitness a quick 20-30km around town is a casual couple hours, but at the same time chuck me up in those hills with 10-20kg on my back and that same distance destroys me over a full day, trail work is no joke.

Would it be stubborness to park across from it, i mean, is there other pitches. I wondered as to his attitude etc earlier, i mean, how ideal is this spot that is talked of. Yep ppl get attached to there areas around there (button man) from tabloid and tv it seems heh. I mind several of you talking of areas and working in certain parts iirc, not for me but fascinating reading of territory. No doubt said but it sounds like Murder Mountain. So yes, trying to determine areas i cant see.

There is definitely no shortage of camping spots around there, so setting up too close would be pretty aggressive/annoying.
The 60mins reports shows a good angle from the riverside spot to Russell's, they were not super close, maybe 50-80m

That is decent going. Want to do the Buller huts but need to get a bit fitter.

My pack, tent & sleeping bag weigh 7 kg alone!!

I suppose it doesn't help being in my 50s too!!

Apologies, off topic.

Yes where the detective guy is looking and stuff. i will look again. If i remember the river was decent enough to drown. Might not. This is where i heard its the first time the det been out there and i thought it was bizarre, mistake in edit but now they say it was barely a month in search though it said bad weather stopped it and they believe them not surviving. 50 80 i would definitely find annoying and rather bizarre given the area then. I live in concrete jungles but that still seems off to me. I cant honestly think of parking that close when there are immediate options in the vicinity unless i knew them. I go with him and her getting lamped and offed. Fire is act of nerves ? Heat of the moment, indecision ? Young team argueing of disposal of items after it, he wouldnt pipe down impressing the partner ? Mad

Not at all, i feel i am off topic rambling over this all ha. Really interesting hearing insights of others working living and things there. I see a lot of ppl buying ultralight copies and stuff, off topic also ha. Golf bag is 5 and i thought that was light.

It is like when we go to Barmah forest, yeah, would love to camp in the same spot everytime but many times people already there so we stay well clear. Nothing worse than bush camping with people close by.

In such a vast area, there is no need to be close to anyone.

100%, I go bush to get away from people I don't know, some think going bush is the Dromana foreshore during Xmas where it's literal metres between strangers.

Each to their own I guess, but I've packed up and moved rather than create and unnecessary confrontation, I don't need stress when I'm away, worklife gives me enough of that!

That time of year (Autumn) the river is quite low, you could drown if you slipped and banged your head on a rock but it definitely wouldn't sweep you away.
The bad weather mentioned is legit, by around late April snowfall becomes pretty normal up high, and the evenings in the valley can be brutal.
Less than 2 weeks ago I wasnear there at around 800mASL and the car was reading -2 degrees at firstlight

Yeah I put 5 drops in beforehand, an adventure in itself. Don't worry, I was destroyed at the end of each day haha.

Sorry to derail the thread

Office police release regarding the latest developments, nothing new but a nice summary of key details without the media errors.
Mostly of interest to me was the following which I hadn't seen addressed previously

"Information was later received about a sighting of an older person or pair in the Black Snake Creek, Eaglevale River crossing and the Ollies Jump area on 22-23 March, however investigators have now spoken to the couple and established they were not the missing campers"

I'll be going through the Wonangatta in about 3 weeks time and will probably stop at the campsite in question, if it's not solved by then (fingers crossed it is) I can probably post a few photos of the general area if it's of interest to anyone

I read a guys story on the ski board thread, is quite good and legit it seems, he tells it well. Understanding the snowlines being mentioned and well this button man is pretty hardened lol. Rather a gang than an assassin haha, jokes aside that is very cool and will be following if there is other links etc, nice one.
