McCartin and Bontempelli? That is scary.
What did he say? I'm sure money is the number one factor. 28 next year (I assume), many players like Scully who are nowhere near as good as him making a lot more.
I hope you guys are well compensated. It's sad for the game when a captain wants out because the pumped up franchises have so much money to throw around.

My first reaction was shock. My niece is a crazy Doggies fan and will be devastated. The Dogs have just tweeted that he will be required to complete his contract. Surely Griff would know that. Could he be trying to force the Board's hand re McCarteney, with no real intention to leave? Really feel for all Dogs supporters.

On the bright side, if you're able to walk away with 3 top ten picks, given the quality of youth on your list already you guys will be an absolute force in years to come. Say you get McCartin, Laverde, Durdin - add that to Macrae, Stringer, Libba, Dahlhous, Wallis, Hrovat... That's a seriously good young core

Take the picks and run, honestly, Griffen was never going to be part of our next Flag chase, this will end up being a blessing in disguise if we get pick 4 & 7 we have such a great change to rebuild with some great kids.

Very true, but this is likely the last AFL contract he'll sign and maybe wants to set himself up for the rest of his life now.

Totally agree with Terry Wallace....We werent going to get success with Griffen running around anyhow in the next 2 years......I reckon Ward was a bigger loss with his age etc.....I'd be more pissed if Bontempelli, Libba, Stringer, Macrae asked for a trade.....It's not great but for our future it puts us in a great position if we can get pick 4 & 7 for him....I'd go for Hoskin-Elliott and pick 7.....or Patton and pick 4....We should try and get overs and I believe GWS will. Really not too fussed as long as we get overs for Griffen considering his age. Make Libba captain and call and meeting with all the young players to stick together....

Sad news for you guys when current captains drop bombshells like this but the AFL want expansion teams to be right up there as ****ed up as that is.
Keep your chin up guys and hopefully you get decent players coming in. Hoskin Elliot is a monty i reckon and i know his uncle as he is a close mate of mine. He has said to me for 12Mths that Will wants to go to the Dogs.
You remember watching your last game of the year? Hoskin-Elliot absolutely torched your blokes with a rare display of marking, speed and goalkicking. You would take him and pick 4 surely.
