To be fair, Riviat kinda had not choice but to join the Gumbies after the failed expansion bid. Imagine the league today had the Serpents and Vampires been excepted

We would have won it all in the first season as the team was stacked with talent.

Riviat is my homie, I'm sure he sweat over it a while

Maybe just a small while. :)

Warning junior sport rant coming.
Just got off the phone from a parent who is coaching his kids u/11 team who keeps on winning by mercy rule and has just copped a comp points penalty.
He has been arguing with the district that it is impossible for his team not to win by as much as they are, they are just too good.
They put him touch with me as I used to run a lot of talent squads and have strategies for coaches not to win by too much (which does no good for anyone)

These mercy rules aren't for kids they are for win at all cost parents which are far too prevalent.

So I start giving him strategies to increase his players skills, that result in the game being closer. There are heaps, change the players positions to give everyone a chance to learn new roles (this is something we do in elite pathways to make better players anyway), Only try and score in certain ways. Practice on getting to the right part of the field rather than trying to score, a certain amount of passes n any play before they score, all stuff that makes them better players, still a challenge and keeps the score down.

Wasn't having any of it, trying to tell me that I've just never seen a team as good as this etc etc, it is impossible to keep the score down.

I explained to him that we take away sides with literally the best 14 year olds in the country (as selected any way) and play them against club sides in gala ays and tournaments and keep it under mercy rules it can be done if you focus on other thing.

Told me that I just didnt get footy, and everyone gets a medal ruins sport.

He hung up before I could tell him that it was parents trying to win U/11's games by 50 that were the problem.

Glad that this no longer part what I do on a regular basis, but still frustrating none the less.
i played in junior teams that absolutely smashed teams by 35-40 goals, one season we had a coach who kept moving us all around positions and we didn’t smash them by as much and it was fun.
By the time we had reached senior level I’d say 85-90% gave it away there was just no interest.

How are you enjoying all these hitouts?
May as well try and go the other side now and aim for the all time most.
I expect to be there by after the Grand Final.

It is better for everyone when you do that.

I have had coaches at both ends of the spectrum. My junior cricket team only ever lost one game (it was a GF), but my coach in that team rotated everyone, every week, including finals. We had 4 guys who played underage state cricket and 5 other rep players ( of which 2 of us prob wouldnt been if not for this coach), they still killed it but the less players got better cause they got a chance to open the batting and bowling and what not was great.
I remember clearly in the final the rotation has our 2 best bats at 9 and 11 and our best bowler not bowling, he stuck to it and parent saying what happens if we lose, he said, well we lose. We won easy, the bat at 9 came in for about 10 balls and smashed it around the other 2 not needed. All the players felt needed, half of us were still playing in our 30's.

I also had the worse coach of all time. I played a year of U/15 at the Roosters when I was 14, they had recruited six 14 yo for the 15's rep comp, put them in one club side in a very weak comp back when they still had to play club footy. Made us so much stronger than the rest and we could win by as many as we want. He used to brag about what he was doing with the team, which was rubbish coaching and was always trying to get us to physically beat up on these kids who were just a long way behind. One game some poor bloke stuck an arm out because he was beaten all ends up collects one of stars high. And this bloke wants us to put a blue on next tackle. Awful stuff. That is the stuff that ruins junior sport and stops kids playing.

There's a few and this one doesn't look too bad. If I was visiting Newcastle, i'd pay this place a visit: https://www.sushinet.com.au/. My favourite place opened in Canberra in the last year and it's right next to work too. It gets plenty of visits.

Besides that one, your best bet is to look at the Google reviews of some around town and go to the higher rated ones.

This all you can eat one opened in the last week in my area which i'll have to try
That does look pretty nice. Must admit though I was only tempted to try the crispy chicken teriyaki and I’m not sure if I’d be game enough to give anything else a go. I’m saying that though, you never know 😝

We might have had AB extend his run and parade around gloating, no one wants that you damned heathen.

Lucky bastard. When they announced the lockdown last week I really hoped work would shut down for a week. Nope, business as usual.

Work for a multinational, then you get to not only work all the way through lockdown, but also any public holiday where there is at least one state that has a difference in when that day is held. That is business as usual, even when head corporate says "you take this day off, now" they'll find a way to delay that shit.

On the plus side:

Time off is fine. The no money part has really hurt my drinking though.

My drinking is fine!

On the other side, I am so very very tired....

My junior cricket was that best coach means, although I didn't last long up the order as there was a very good reason why I was a frontlien bowler and could only muster a forward defensive stroke to save my life. My AFL career could only count towards one season for one GF appearance (loss) primarily as beginning of health instances and wondering WTF are these hormonal changes and why do I hurt everywhere. However, secondly because in that GF appearance, I only actually appeared for about 2 minutes, sicne the then coach decided "this car crash is fine, I don't need to do anything with the bench, let's just , what do you mean we're 7 goals down and have people throwing up? I'm blind!"

And then in the piss up that followed the sometimes ruckman kinda wanted to punch on with everyone and I dipped into obscurity.

But yeah, I was so out of my element in D grade having been called in since someone got sick basically straight after my juniors game, as you do, silly point you're small and nimble, and oh hey, we need you to bat, soz about not bringing gear for you, here's the wickies pads and bat too large for you generally, just go out there and not shit yourself. Which I so did, watched that ball brilliant for one ball, charged the second got stumped, kept walking.

Strange they never wanted me back...

Funny you bring up cricket.
Was my game also and I had some real run ins years ago in my mid 20”s coaching an under 14’s team with the same attitude. We had 14 players and I had a selection rotation roster no matter how good they were, I bowled boys who struggled, I gave every one opportunities batting but mostly I tried to make them better players through training and opportunity.
Some parents used to crack it at me if their ”superstar” son wasn’t playing, or opening the batting or bowling etc.
The parents of the captain and best player were great though.
Fast forward 5 years and the proudest times for me were two of the kids who were the lesser types in others eyes were playing along side me with one ending up making 6 district tons.
It’s amazing how often kids mature late too.

I work for a company that literally only has Christmas Day and Easter Sunday off. I work every other day regardless of a public holiday. I also work extra hours before tax time and boxing Day week. We also have specific sale days through the year we work extra hours. Just recently I worked a 12 hour shift. The things you do for the company hey. Lucky the money is good.

And yet if they had too, I’m sure you’d be first out the door. You don’t owe a company anything. Because the amount of hours we put into a particular job yet it can all be taken away in an instant
