Opinion Sack Hinkley 3 - 2021 is worse than 2020 already

Who other than Hinkley?

Well, I'd interview our assistants and find out which one of them disagree with Ken's approach and see if they're able to honestly and accurately determine where we've gone wrong in the last several years. If they're astute enough to make those kinds of observations then they can have the top job.
Either Schofield or Monty. Both of them are ready.

If you have been in a work place for 9 years on top money, you have shown no improvement required for the position, does the company care who your replacement is going to be, no they sack you then rehire some one they think can get the job done, besides what do they have to lose.
Who would you prefer instead of him?

Like what coach would you trust to take your club to Premiership success next year?

Aliir is a gun, might be the first time a defender is in the running to be my favourite player.

The fact that almost year n year we've added good players (on paper) and addressed deficiencies in the list, yet we have hardly improved at all over the last 8 seasons, means Ken has failed. He's failed the club and the players we brought in.

The one constant, at some point it has to be dealt with.

I find Montgomery’s observations of our list and game most aligned to Hinkley’s. Not sure about Monty any more to be honest.
Schofield then. Was outstanding at WAFL level, and now has a couple of years experience in the AFL coaching system. Wouldn't be too expensive on his first contract either.

As a couple of posters in this board would know, I have been a supporter of Hinkley... up to now.

Whilst his and Port's performance was disappointing again, it was his presser that really got to me and he's lost me as well. He said absolutely nothing in it.

As for a replacement, there would be a number of well credentialed coaches that would take pay cuts to coach this list ie Clarkson, Buckley and we have one standout candidate in our back yard - Schoefield.

Might sound silly but I would take Buckley in a heart beat, what that guy has had to contentend with shit list management, x-president, I reckon he could to nice things with our list, plus he knows how Port tick.

Clarkson is an interesting one. Has runs on the board but has clearly f@&ked their list now with multiple gambles that haven’t paid off. Has he learned his lesson? Could he make the magic happen again with an unf@&ked list at his disposal? I’d be keen to find out.

Past it I reckon, has had his success and the drive wouldn't be the same.

Let's face it, the guy is so mediocre he makes blancmange look like an essential nutrient.

For better or worse all of our other AFL coaches left something you could remember them by.

John Cahill - Port Adelaide legend who made us immediately competitive in the AFL.

Mark Williams - Port Adelaide scion who led us to our first AFL premiership.

Matthew Primus - Port Adelaide warrior who was tested in dark times and was unfortunately found wanting.

Ken Hinkley - 🤔

On MMM before the game with Dom and Brad Ebert, they spoke to Ken about Bont and if we'd put special effort into stopping him because of the way he tore us apart in that one game at AO.
Ken gave his standard response about not putting a hard tag on anyone but needing to go head to head with them and how we have players they need to worry about too.

I knew at that point that we were going to get absolutely smashed in the middle. This guy actually just doesn't learn.

Hinkley is the master of being that guy who continually does just enough to keep his job.

I'll believe the Chasing Greatness™ hype when someone at the club with some authority recognises this and acts on it.

If you watch all his pressers it's political talk it's spin it's feel good analogy. If he was a EPL coach h he would of been crucified by the base and the board far more sooner

There’s only 18 head coach positions in the AFL amongst our population of some 26 million.

Why AFL clubs continue to recycle has-been coaches like Malthouse, Worsfold and Eade in the past is beyond me. Surely there are good candidates somewhere in the AFL system that just aren’t getting a look.

Anyway, the whole argument about “if not Hinkley then who?” is ridiculous because it assumes Hinkley has been successful in his 10 year tenure

If Bulldogs kept that Port base thinking who else if not Ken they wouldn't of got Beveridge. We became a base of acceptance of excuses

Ken got us competitive and kept us competitive but rarely threatening and seriously underachieved. The pieces of the puzzle never synced up all in the same year.

Hinkley, in all likelihood, will be retained as head coach for the remainder of this season and probably beyond. He badly needs a premiership this year if he is to cement his legacy as anything other than a failure. Our club has announced it's lofty ambitions - it needs to prove it can walk the talk.

It's too early to tell how we'll finish this year. At the conclusion of round 9 in every season since 2012, the eventual grand finalist has had a percentage >130 6 out of 9 times. All 3 exceptions are Richmond.

We are not Richmond. We are at 120% right now. We have injuries. We have excuses. Our best is good enough. Our worst...

Does Hinkley has what it takes to get his team to a premiership this year? It's possible, but the Richmond blueprint will be very difficult to follow. Port, under Hinkley's reign, do not have the credits in the bank to suggest they can do much better than previous seasons, let alone win a flag. We are barely performing above our own mediocre average.

We will have to see out Hinkley's season - including the horror shows like today. There's room to be optimistic - we managed to beat Geelong in finals after being belted earlier in the season. We can turn it around somewhat. That said, anything other than holding the cup with a prison bar clad Jonas on the dais GF day is a failure for Hinkley. Cup or bust.

The Kochmeister is never going to back down on his ridiculous `I want to make Ken Hinkley a 10 year coach' B.S. comment from some years back, so we are stuck with kern until at least next season and possibly beyond if there is any finals action at all, regardless of the end result.

Maybe `we exist to exist ' would really be a more apt club slogan.

We have a good list. We just need a competent coach to take it to the next level.
Still lacking real class in the midfield, which gets exposed against the very best. Really need to target someone of quality to boost this area hence the emphasis on Merrett in the off season. Others might be out there that could help ie Mitch Wallis etc CD is probably looking.

I'm fairly measured in my assessment of Hinkley and his coaching acumen.

But there's no doubt that his media rhetoric is absolutely awful and patronising to the fans who give quite a lot of their money, time and lives to the club.

Yes, statistically we are a "good" side. We are on track to finish above most clubs. But the fans don't want to hear that. Rightfully no one gives a shit that we are "good" or that we improved from some shambolic performances earlier this year.

The statement from the club should be that we are not good enough. The coaches, players and everyone involved are not good enough. Tell me how you are going to improve. Give a reason for why people should care.
