2021 Port Adelaide after round 9 match: 5th (Potentially 6th pending West Coast), Won 6, Lost 3. 120%

2004 Port Adelaide after round 9: 4th, Won 6, Lost 3. 118%

2004 lost 1 home game against the Crows up until this point otherwise Portress against visiting teams. Got smashed in away games against Melbourne & North Melbourne. Losing to a contender at home last nights puts us out of contention for the top 4 and we look extremely vulnerable against Collingwood away in an hostile environment next weekend.

This, ladies and gentlemen, is why our culture is cooked.

A casual supporter base for whom 2010-2012 blew a collective fuse — “little club from Alberton”/“battling underdog punching above its weight” — so now making finals every few years is seen as a miraculous achievement in line with your Freos, St Kildas and Gold Coasts.
this boys and girls is why these are anti port Adelaide supporters. They find stuff to rejoice over that is negative to anything about port adelaide. They delight on put downs, attempt to thrive on any reasons which show negative stuff, do not celebrate any successes, always look at the negative side.
they represent none of the good about port adalaide, they are all negative port Adelaide.
they are not port adelaide

Get lost loser, support the umpires then , that way you're feelings don't get hurt

We lack composure and efficiency, just like every other year.

try harder isn’t always the answer.

our team just doesn’t seem to be bigger than the individuals.

Not pleasant reading regarding resilience.

That is an indictment right there. I wonder how many other teams’ second best 3QT comeback in the past 9 seasons is only 12 points? Yikes...

I’ve said in a few threads now that I would have let Ken go at the end of the 2018 season. Coming off that heartbreaking loss to the Eagles we needed to build that year and instead we collapsed.

I think coaches can lose a playing group but I don’t think that is Ken’s problem. If anything it is the opposite. He is almost too close to parts of the playing group, encouraging the type of brittleness you see in children under some parenting styles.

I have never thought Ken was a bad coach as such. But 9 seasons of accumulated evidence suggests he is a middling coach and is unlikely to be the person to take us to our next flag. Maybe the next coach will, or maybe not. But we have to try something different. We can’t allow our outstanding young crop to be infected by the same mentality as some of the older players.

Our problem is that the team outperformed last year, allowing the board to maintain its complacency. They need to counteract that by setting the bar high and be prepared to let Ken go if we don’t at least make the GF this season.

Unfortunately I suspect we will finish somewhere between 4th and sixth, perhaps make a prelim or bow out in the second round of the finals, and the board will use the injury situation and club finances to justify maintaining the status quo.

When we are 12+ points down at 3QTR time we win 3.8% games (i.e. 2 in 53 games) since 2013. The best in the competition is Adelaide who win 9.4% of games (i.e. 6 in 64 games). We sit 12th in the comp for this stat. North and GC have not won a game in that time period being more than 12 points behind.

When we are behind at 3QTR time by any margin we win 13.9% of games, placing us 10th in the comp. The best is Geelong who win 23.5% of the time. On average when we are behind at 3QTR time we are 23.9 points behind which ranks us 7th (ascending scale).

Stock cop out negative answer. In a 16 team competition, as if it was all that easy.

Richmond was a walking punchline for 3 decades. In 2014 we demolished them in an elimination final with our list profile on a sharp ascent.

Go have a look at the fortunes of the respective clubs since that day.
