On the contrary it's very relevant. Watch kochie and co try and shift the goalposts to make it seem like making finals is some miracle, spectacular achievement. Or 7-8 wins is a good result.
We need to be reminded that we finished top 2 on the ladder the last 2 years in a row, as well as played in 2 prelim finals.
We're supposed to be judged on winning a flag or at least making the GF this year. This season is already an abject failure. Beating a wafl quality side doesn't change that.

I deliberately left in the part where it says 5 months since the prelim, ie this is clearly a quote from February this year.
I even pointed this out in a subsequent reply to a poster who mistook this for a current quote.
The fact is that Hinkley boasted in February that we were still a flag contender and that the opposition had better look out yet here we are two months later at 1-5 with our only win being over an injury and COVID riddled West Coast.

When the team needs to win 3 straight flags (SANFL and AFLW aside) to achieve the expectation presented by our CEO, how can just making finals guarantee Hinkley next year?

I'm not convinced that the club is yet thinking about parting ways with Hinkley but somebody we all respect believes that the club will part ways with Hinkley.
If however it comes to fruition that Hinkley parts ways with the club then what kind of finale would it be? I reckon, assuming Koch is in charge before Hinkley goes, it would be a vanilla seeping oozing Koch thing to do to give Hinkley a 'send off' type of last game of coaching because he's believed in the fallacy that 90% of Port supporters would want to sniffle a waving goodbye to our almighty saviour. Pads of teal tissues awaiting on our seats.

St. Kilda can kill it this week, having said that it wouldn't take much to get in the log jam for 7th & 8th the comp isn't that strong.
